Our humble Kiwi bach is a quirky wee place located in the beautiful Duncan Bay, Tennyson Inlet.
Situated in a quiet cul-de-sac on the hill, it is a five-minute walk to the beach, with great swimming at the Duncan Bay picnic reserve. Despite being small, our classic kiwi bach has three double bedrooms and a kids bunk room. There is a loft above the living area that provides an extra space to relax or for kids to play.
The newly extended, spacious deck is an awesome place to have dinner or drinks, surrounded by native bush and birdsong. We have two kayaks that guests are welcome to use and there's a filleting bench for all the fish you're going to catch during your stay. We have a TV and DVD player, with a large selection of DVDs, and heaps of games and puzzles. There is also a bush library (book exchange) nearby.
Children are welcome. There are toys, books and a baby gate at the top of the stairs for safety. Good, house-trained dogs are welcome to join you on your stay. There is a kennel down stairs to keep your pup secure. Water bowls and leads are available for our canine guests, as well as doggy doo bags so you can clean up after them. Dogs are not permitted on the furniture or beds.
Duncan Bay has a fantastic launching ramp for your boat, or have a go at catching a snapper off the wharf or from Pipi Beach.
We have a mooring - please let us know if you wish to use this.
We also offer complimentary tea and coffee, as well as some general pantry breakfast supplies. Please note, water must be boiled before drinking, or bring some in with you. Linen and towels are not supplied, so please bring your own. All beds have mattress protectors, duvets, blankets and pillows.
There is now 4G cell reception in Duncan Bay!

Duncan Bay is a really great spot. It’s so peaceful and scenic. The bach is very well equipped, including loads of fridge and freezer space We also loved the kayaks.
Classic Kiwi bach with all the amenities you'd need. It's well equipped - plenty of fridge and freezer space & comfy beds. Duncan Bay is just an amazing location and the bach was a short walk down to the water. Bach has a great deck, lots of greenery and awesome birdsong. A lovely place to just rest and reset. The CD, DVD and classic board/ card games collections were great - kept us all entertained. Kids loved the loft area and spent a lot of time up there either making up imaginary games or just chilling. It's not a fancy place but it's comfortable. An easy place to just "be".
A very serene spot! Beautiful deck! Short walk to the boat ramp. Kayaking in the sounds was an awesome experience. We were also very grateful that our little dog was allowed. Pippi beach is a nice 15min walk and a great place for a swim. We also made good use of the record player and danced to Elvis, Beach Boys and country music.

Liked: Check-in, location, listing accuracy
Disliked: Cleanliness, communication
The host was very welcoming though it would have been preferable to have dealt directly with Sally and Ben rather than via the cumbersome medium of Bookabach messaging. The house was very well-equipped, especially the kitchen, and we enjoyed sitting out on the wide deck listening to the birds in the beautiful surrounding bush. However, the BBQ was so dirty and encrusted with burned food that it was unusable - a great disappointment. In addition, we discovered at the end of our stay that the washer leaked a small amount of water from under the machine.
Great place to stay, accommodation was as described and perfect for our group of 7, communication with owner was excellent. Would stay again, but for longer.
A very cozy retreat well kitted out with everything we needed. We walked the Nydia Track, a short 5 minute walk to start of track. Would definitely recommend this place.
We had such a great time, right in the nature with stunning views and just a 5 minutes walk from the water. We will definitely be back.Laure & Mike

About the host
Hosted by Sally and Ben McLennan
A few years ago we fell in love with Duncan Bay and were lucky enough to snap up this quirky place! We are happy to offer others the opportunity to spend time in the Bay, at an affordable price. We hope you love the bay as much as we do. Sally and Ben.
Why they chose this property
Duncan Bay has one of the best boat launching ramps in the area and is only 1.5 hours from Nelson and Blenheim. It also offers great walks through native bush, and an abundance of beautiful bird life. It's a very special place.
What makes this property unique
Our property is what you would expect for a typical 1960s(ish) kiwi bach. A charming mish-mash of carpet colours and a layout that would rival a rabbit's warren. But it has everything you need for a fabulous stay. We have recently extended the deck, which looks out directly over native bush.
