About this property

Beautiful historic sheep station - stunning outlook/bird watching - 2h from Syd

Come and stay at Kelburn, a beautiful and historic 1300 acre working sheep property in the Southern Tablelands of NSW.

We have a 3 bed roomed newly renovated Shearers' Quarters available for people to stay. It is suitable for single people , couples, families and groups of friends. The Shearers' Quarters has a stunning outlook from its verandah over the paddocks, and has very comfortable accommodation for up to 6 guests. Please note all the individual rooms are only accessible via the verandah. Booking minimum 2 nights.

The shearers quarters are located near the gardens and other buildings of the gracious Federation Homestead. There is an original convict built stone house, dating from 1831, a Manager's Cottage, and a lovely old working shearing shed.
There are beautiful gardens and an orchard for guests to explore, as well as chooks, budgies, peacocks, ducks, pigs, alpacas and a horse, as well as sheep and cattle, for both children and adults to enjoy. There are kangaroos and wombats on the property.

Kelburn has quiet farm roads, for bike riding or walking and some lovely paths by the Mulwaree Ponds and in a forested area.

Kelburn is also a wonderful place for birdwatching, and provides a mixed habitat for more than 120 bird species. The Mulwaree Ponds attract bitterns, both species of spoonbills, cormorants and a variety of ducks. The gardens attract numerous migrating songbirds, and from the farmland and forest one can enjoy a variety of raptors, including Little and Wedgetailed eagles, peregrines, brown falcons, harriers and kites.

Kelburn is situated only 15 minutes from Goulburn, 10 minutes from Wakefield Parkway and an hour from Canberra.

Kelburn experiences 4 distinct seasons. Winter is bracing, with the dramatic outline of magnificent deciduous trees as they lose their leaves. The Shearers' Quarters has a very cosy woodfire and gas heating in the living areas, and heaters and electric blankets in the bedrooms. Spring is radiant with the drama of new life, the blossoms and bulbs emerging. Summer brings on a kaleidoscope of garden colour, warm days which cool down at night. The living areas and bedrooms of the Shearers' Quarters all have ceiling fans, Autumn is "the season of mellow fruitfulness" and the leaves turning orange and red.

So if you are looking for somewhere to stay where you can just enjoy being on the farm, or visiting nearby places, Kelburn is a fantastic choice.

Nice farmstay experience
The kids had fun collecting the eggs every morning, there were also cows and pigs to feed & the peacock was a hit with the kids. There is also a watering hole for swimming although we didn't get the chance to use it as the area had flooded recently. The farm is spacious and the immediate farmstay grounds are nicely presented and nice to walk around in Thanks to Alana and Adam who live in the manager's cottage who showed the kids around the garden as well as Amanda and Randolph for doing a few farm activities with the kids The rooms are separate, linked via an enclosed verandah - it was fine for our young family as we stayed in summer.

What an amazing and unique experience
I visited this gorgeous farm for a couple of days on our way back from our winter holiday. I stayed with my whole family including 3 young kids. They loved seeing the animals, feeding the chickens and generally exploring the grounds. This truely was an amazing and unique experience filled with find memories for us all.

Winter family getaway
We stayed here for a week in July 2022 with our young children (6.5, 2.5, and 11 months). The accommodation was spotless and great - the rooms being off an external verandah was not as bad as I feared. The hosts were lovely and accommodating (let us check out late so our baby could nap before we headed home). There is plenty on the farm to keep kids entertained and all rooms have heating so you can keep cosy and warm. We also loved the history of the place. Will definitely recommend to others and would love to come back one day.
