Siltcoos Lake:
The largest lake on the central Oregon coast is also one of the region’s best fishing lakes, especially for warm water fish including largemouth bass.
It also is one of the few lakes in Oregon where you can keep a wild coho salmon in season.
Siltcoos Lake is a sprawling 3,164 acres located between Florence and Reedsport in the wonderful dune country of the central coastline.
Siltcoos is one of the most celebrated largemouth bass fisheries in Oregon and is among those mentioned in our article, Best Largemouth Bass Fishing in Western Oregon.
You’ll find tons of good bass cover all over the lake here, including fallen trees, drop-offs, points, islands and numerous coves and several longer creek arms. There also are some docks, especially where there are a fair number of private homes along the banks on the west and north sides of the lake, many clustered around the communities of Dunes City and North Beach.
Bass will often move up into the shallower water during the spring, when they spawn just off shore, and they can be aggressive then. They will stage a bit more off shore at other times.
Crappie also like to hang out around structure and may be found in shallower water during the spring. Sunken trees and pilings are good places to start.
Also, the lake is known to have good populations of less-pursued species including yellow perch, sunfish and bullhead catfish.
Trout are not the primary quarry for anglers here, but the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife does stock a modest number of rainbow trout here. Look for those plantings to take place in late winter or early spring (March and April are good times to check the stocking schedule linked below).
Native cutthroat trout also live in the lake and its tributary streams and may be kept as part of your daily trout limit.
The coho salmon fishery here opens in October and runs through December. Fishing for these fish is usually not productive until significant rainfall draws in these large fish, which most often happens in November.
There are a modest number of coho caught and kept here, but it’s a fairly unique opportunity. Boaters catch most of the adult coho, often by trolling wobbling lures in the creek channels the salmon use to return to their home streams.
What’s nearby:
This home is a quick drive from multiple access points to the Oregon Dunes and ocean beaches including the popular access just out South Jetty Road, and the city of Florence is five miles north. The charming Old Town section of the city is filled with lovely shops, cafes, galleries, and restaurants. You will also be minutes from numerous trailheads for hiking or mountain biking. The coastal forests flourishing in Douglas fir and Sitka spruce extend nearly to the Ocean. Some trails wind up, over, and through sand dunes, offering hikers the opportunity to experience the unique natural wonders of this area. Bring your camera! Paddle Siltcoos River between Siltcoos Lake and the Pacific Ocean. This slow-moving, three-mile river is so ideal for paddlers that it’s a designated Canoe Trail. Take a scenic drive up Hwy 101 to Heceta Head Lighthouse where free tours are offered daily. Get your adrenalin flowing on a nearby dune buggy tour or with an ATV rental, or go crabbing from the Siuslaw Bay public fishing pier at the end of South Jetty road where crabbing is excellent from late spring until the fresh water from winter rains force the crabs out to the ocean.

As always we love this place with its 2 separate living areas. It's a 4 star stay again only because of a few housekeeping issues again. Dirty dishes and spider webs again, with those couple issues cleared up it would be a 5*. Thanks again for another great year and great memories for my family.

Hello Phillip, we are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us again and we do sincerely apologize for the dirty dishes, we have notified the housekeeping staff of this issue and expect that this will not be an issue again. We do strive to make sure our homes are clean and comfortable for every guest.
We look forward to hosting you again soon.
House was very clean and well-supplied.Minor problem with key lock on door knob, but deadbolt lock was easy to use.We had four adults and one dog (golden retriever).
We had an excellent stay. The house was very clean and spacious. The view of the lake was beautiful. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony in the evenings. We loved having several bathrooms for our group. Communication and check in were easy. We liked the location. It was peaceful but also just a short drive from town. We hope to come back soon!

Hello Ashley, we appreciate your kind words and we do strive to make sure our properties are clean and I try to make the communication easy for guests.
We would definitely love to host your family again in the very near future.
House was clean. Pictures are accurate! Beautiful view off the top porch of the lake, simply stunning. Kitchens came stocked with various cookware. The best part of this site is the bathrooms, 4 in total. 2 with just toilet and 2 with shower/tub. Downstairs has a bunk bed and a futon. Upstairs has a queen bed and a king bed. Washer and dryer. Lots of berry bushes and quiet neighbors. This home is great for groups. No issues with water pressure or water temperature, everyone was able to take showers when needed. Smooth check in and check out.
The place was perfect. The location ! The view was great. The little town was picture perfect as well where the house is by the lake Just a note : If you are using Google Maps , and arriving at night. The property address sign is not visible, it’s the shared drive way . It was a wonderful place !!!

Lakeview retreat
We enjoyed our stay. Great space for up to 8. Upstairs and downstairs both with restrooms and kitchen areas! We were comfortable and the unit was clean.
House is clean and has everything needed including a great washer and dryer. A little further off the highway than I expected but easy to navigate. I would definitely stay here again.

Great experience
This was a great place to stay, very spacious and room for everyone. It was really nice having two areas for everyone to gather. The view from the porch was great to have coffee.
We love the Deerhart Lakehouse so much. It’s a wonderful property, great view and not too far from town. The separate space is perfect for our teens to get away from the adults.

Lighthouse Adventure
We very much enjoyed our stay at Deerhart Lakehouse. It is centrally located in Florance. The property had a fabulous view and was central to visiting the lighthouses on the Oregen Coast. The property driveway was a bit steep. The people at the management company were very helpful.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in
We stayed here with a couple of cousins for a small family reunion. The accommodations were perfect for us. The downside was that the listing had mentioned a steep drive with room for two cars at the top and one in the garage. This driveway is so steep you have to gun the engine to make it up. It desperately needs to have asphalt or heavy gravel but it is mostly dirt with a little very old gravel. At the top parking is very limited and narrow. The tricky part is to be able to make some kind of Y turn to get back down. If you can't you must back all the way down. It is frightening to say the least. There is no parking on the street either so that is not an option. The other suggestion would be regarding instructions for the lights and TV. It was all guess work. We never did get the TV figured out and an instruction book would have been helpful. Light switches were hard to figure out but more information would have been helpful. The house is well stocked and clean and comfortable and has a nice view of the lake. We enjoyed sitting on the deck visiting and not all houses have the view or a nice deck. The downstairs is a seperate apartment. We didn't use it except for sleeping but it has a full kitchen and living room. Definitely seperate from the rest of the house.

We had a fantastic get-away at Deer Hart. The lake view was spectacular on a cold but sunny January weekend. This is a lovely home that was perfect for five people (and a dog), but could easily accommodate more people. Two living areas allow for lively gaming in one area and great conversation in another. Bring the family.
Comfortable ; nice location, clean, nice view, easy access to town and other places,. Everything we needed was there.
One thing - downstairs microwave didn’t work; would suggest more garbage bags and laundry soap
This trip was planned to relax and enjoy our friends
We spent hour
It was spotless and we enjoyed the fully stocked kitchen.
For once I didn't need the cookie sheets, pans, etc that I brought with!
We spent hours on the huge deck enjoying the peaceful and beautiful view
