About this property

Authentic log cabin

Our inviting, authentic rustic log cabin was built in 1994. As you open the door, she welcomes you with her sweet Lawson Cypress log scent.

The MatchBox is rustic, with a log burner in the living room and stunning elevated views of Lake Brunner from the front porch and second story main bedroom. Nothing like waking up to a view of the snow topped mountain peaks or that glassy lake calling you out for a ride on the jet ski or boat.

she can sleep 5 people comfortably. We recommend no more that 6.
Access up a steep, gravel drive not suitable for boats.

Main bedroom upstairs: 1 queen bed
Loft room: 2 single beds
2nd Bedroom: 1 double bed, bunk bed
Bring your own linen or request linen at extra charge.
*Water is rainfed and may run out during dry season. It is the responsibility of the guest to conserve water, bring drinking water and refill the tank if needed.*

In a secure cul-de-sac, away from the main street, with ample on street parking. Plenty of parking up the drive as well.

Enjoy the authentic and rustic feel with the firepit out front. Light up a fire in your own little piece of the forest, sit back and enjoy the indigenous bird song. You may even get a glimpse of our regular visiting jungle chicken (Weka) Michael.

Nestled in the trees not far from the lake where you can enjoy fishing of brown and rainbow trout.
There are great local activities including tamping, biking and hiking.
No boats or jet ski tailers permitted up the drive.

A small dog is allowed on request only, please ensure your dog is kept on a lead if likely to roam, we do not want to disturb the wildlife.
Waitangi, Easter, Anzac, Kings Birthday, Matariki, Labour, and Show Weekends - minimum of 3 nights preferred.

Relaxing and enjoyable stay
Great location, but still felt like you were in the bush and isolated. The views from the upstairs bedroom were magic. House worked really well for our family group and the fire easily heated the place while it was wild and wet outside. Would definitely stay here again in the future.

Warm, cozy and peaceful
Our family had an amazing stay. We really enjoyed relaxing around the fire with the beauitful views of the lake. My daughter celebrated her 16th birthday there. We went water skiing and had plenty of space under the carport to dry the wetsuits and towels after. Great place.

Lovely Rustic Bach
We had a great time in Moana and at Lake Brunner, and this Bach’s location was ideal. Great views of the lake from upstairs (which was awfully hot in January). Pleasantly surprised to have a full water tank after the warnings. Coffee lovers take note if you’re bringing Pods: the machine is a Nespresso, not a Nescafé as listed. There were 2 plungers, though.

Extended Family Holiday in Moana
A very basic property but exactly as described online. The top room was lovely and my elderly mother enjoyed the view and sun. Sadly not much sun elsewhere in the house and no outdoor living except for the fire pit area. The downstairs bedroom was dark and the double bed very uncomfortable. We were very aware of running out of water so conserved constantly which was a bit annoying. Loved the location and the kitchen, family room was excellent. Had beautiful weather and walked to the pub on many occasions. Given the price we paid it would have been helpful to have washing up liquid supplied - the hand soap was a bit sparse too. Had a wonderful holiday and will definitely return to Moana.

The Matchbox is a family bach. We love spending time there and would like to share its wonder with other people who enjoy the New Zealand rainforest, lakes and rustic stay experience.
We are putting much love into our jungle paradise and have plans to give her a facelift and some new fittings with time all while retaining her rustic log cabin appeal.

If you enjoy rustic, miss-match, earthy pleasures then this bach will be a great experience for you. Whether its a family holiday or a romantic get-away she can help set the tone.

Please respect our home.
We hope you enjoy your stay as much as we do.
