About this property

The Big Cabin on the Au Sable River - Spectacular Views - 8BR/4BA

Imagine yourself kicked back and relaxed on the Main Branch of Michigan’s famed Au Sabe River! With beautiful all-season views from its wrap around deck - and 4000 square feet of living space - this big cabin provides you with all the comforts of home.

We are especially excited to announce the addition of a new outdoor dry sauna in 2024, available to guests of the Big Cabin only. We are also making preparations for a new recreation/game room this spring. Check back for more updates on this new addition.

The cabin’s interior includes 8 bedrooms, three full baths, one half bath, a fully equipped chef’s kitchen and large dining space with adjacent bar. A lovely stone fireplace sits front and center of the living room for your enjoyment. High quality bedding, furnishings and accessories truly make it a home away from home.

The fully equipped chef’s kitchen features granite countertops, center island, 42-inch dual fuel oven, microwave and refrigerator/freezer. Quality dishes, glassware, flatware, cutlery, cookware and utensils make the kitchen complete. If you’d rather make “reservations”’ we are also happy to help you source local caterers for that special occasion.

Outside, you’ll find a gas grill and ample comfortable seating around the deck space. A fire pit facing the river is the perfect spot to take in the beautifully dark night sky. A public canoe/kayak landing and food/beverage store are just a few minutes’ walk away. Many other outdoor activities – fishing, hiking, biking, cross country skiing and more – are all in close proximity. The invigorating scent of pine, balsam and cedar are right outside your door – along with the sights and sounds of nature – all day and all night. Indulge your senses, relax and explore.

Let us help you plan your adventure!

Awesome place!
It's always a crap shoot when you book something online. You're relying upon the photos and reviews of others to guide you. Well let me tell you, the photos posted don't do it justice. It was an absolutely fabulous location. We had 20 people for a regional association meeting. Most of us spent the night. As we were individuals, not couples, we really needed extra beds but made do with a couple of the hearty guys pitching tents in the yard. The kitchen was well stocked; we cooked many meals there and found almost everything. We did not venture out except to ride our mountain bikes at Hanson Hills Rec Area. The deck and yard were perfect for our meetings as was the living room. The dining room accommodated almost everyone. The only thing I'd like to tell you, future vacationer, is to NOT follow Google Maps to this location. I'm from Northern Michigan so I can get myself to Grayling without GPS, so I turned it on once in Grayling to make sure I located the lodge. McMasters Bridge Rd is one of those that has duplicate #'s as there's a North & South.... but only the North shows up on Google Maps, even though it says it's South. So I drove around in circles, finally seeking out a little party store on Down River Rd. Do NOT take Down River Rd to get to McMasters Bridge Rd unless you are coming from the North. Stay on M-72 until you can turn left onto McMasters Bridge Rd and the lodge is obvious just before you cross the AuSable River. I personally picked out this place for our group. A bit nervous as I arrived Saturday morning for our meeting; but was given the thumbs up by everyone and even a little round of applause for having chosen such a great location. It's just beautiful. Oh.... we stayed in the lodge. We did not experience the cabins, but I'm sure they are just as nice. Same views as provided by the lodge as they are steps away.

Fantastically relaxing!! Highly recommend!!
We stayed at the lodge during the week of the 4th of July! We had 18 people ranging in age from 10 months to 70 years old and we all had a wonderful time! The lodge has all the amenities of home and more! Pack your clothes, some food and your roasting sticks for the fire pit and you are all set! We enjoyed the huge wrap around porch that overlooks the river. It is especially peaceful in the morning while enjoying your coffee or while reading a nice book! We grilled hamburgers on the provided gas grill and were all able to eat together at the large table. The on site staff was very helpful in suggesting fishing spots and canoe liveries! While there we canoed the beautiful river. We were picked up at the lodge and were able to canoe straight back to the boating dock across the street! Very convenient! We also visited a little zoo down the road where we could feed the animals. Fun for all ages! The water was freezing, but that didn't stop the more daring teenagers from putting on their suits and going for a dip in the river or wading out to do some fishing. Ending the day around the campfire or sitting on the deck watching the sun fade away... Couldn't ask for a more relaxing getaway with all the comforts of home! We will definitely be making a return trip in the near future!

Wow.
Wow. What a special place. 29 family members, age two to 75, gathered throughout the week at the Riverview Lodge and Cabins. 21 stayed in the lodge and 8 stayed in a cabin. Both lodge and cabins came fully furnished with linens, bedding, air conditioning, ceiling fans, internet & DISH TV. Grills, fully stocked kitchens, and remarkable views of the AuSable River were found at each location. The layout of the lodge is remarkably spacious and provides plenty of room to accommodate large groups, while maintaining a cozy, cabin feel. Plenty of room to spread out—yet adequate seating areas to gather people together for meals, games, movies, etc. The kitchen and adjoining butlers’ panty provided ample space for storage and meal prep. The dining table and bar area—and expansive covered porches make for great spots to hang out and enjoy the views &/or conversations! Riverview Lodge’s management is top-notch and great to work with. Questions throughout the registration process were handled promptly and professionally; on-site management is top-notch. Local canoe rental companies will pick you up at the lodge and/or deliver canoes, kayaks, for your use—how easy is that!? Perfect accommodations for families, friends, golfers, anglers, or anyone seeking a Pure Michigan getaway!

Loved our stay at this lodge!
My family rented this lodge for a week over the fourth of july. We had the maximum of 20 people for part of the visit and there was still plenty of room for everyone. The kitchen and dining area was very spacious and it was great that everyone could eat together. We loved the big table and two bar areas. The living room was very comfortable and the large wrap around deck was awesome! The view of the river was so pretty and the location of the boat launch across the street was very convenient. We really enjoyed taking our kayaks and floats down the river. We would highly recommend this lodge to anyone.

Christmas in Michigan
Absolutely beautiful home, on the prettiest spot I've seen on the Au Sable. The lodge exceeded expectations. Wonderfully equipped, spotlessly clean, everything in tip top shape, truly turn-key. Spent Christmas week with extended family, more than enough room for everyone. Owner, and manager, very easy to work with. Would recommend this property without hesitation, and looking forward to our next stay.
