The Oakdene Cottage - hot tub with a lake view!
Welcome to Shane and Alan’s Oakdene Cottage getaway - a newly renovated, 4 bedroom, 2.5 bathroom family cottage with spectacular views out over Starr Bay, just over an hour outside of Toronto. Enjoy a hydromassage in our brand new jacuzzi hot tub followed by a bonfire and sunset over Lake Scugog.
Enter through the large family rec room where you will find plenty of comfy seating, two queen size, memory foam pull out couches, and a 65” TV with a Bose sound system. There is also a games area with a foosball table, board games as well as a workspace.
The large back deck features an outdoor dining area, plenty of space to lounge and a large, brand new 7-person jacuzzi. Bose portable speakers will be available for you to use.
Upstairs you will find 4 bedrooms with memory foam mattresses, an indoor dining area, and a fully equipped kitchen. Just off the kitchen is an upper deck equipped with a propane BBQ and additional seating.
Sleeping Arrangements Master Bedroom: 1 Queen Bed with a 2pc bathroom Bedroom 2: 1 Queen Bed Bedroom 3: 1 Queen Bed Bedroom 4: 1 Bunkbed (Twin over Twin) Lower Level: 2 Queen Beds (pullout sofas)
All of our beds come with freshly laundered bed linens, pillows, and duvets.
Situated in quiet Starr Bay off Lake Scugog, it’s the perfect place for boating and fishing. We offer two kayaks and a paddle boat. Down the street there is a public boat launch.
We pride ourselves on being honest and upfront with our guests and thus want to be clear regarding the lake conditions on Starr Bay. Even though the water is swimmable; The water in Starr Bay is clear but very shallow and weedy in a portion of the shallowest areas, making it harder to swim. We have included a few photos so that guests can see what we are referring to in the lake.
For guests that decide not to swim in the shallow area, the kayaks & paddleboat is an excellent transportation tool to venture out to the deeper regions of Starr Bay or further into Lake Scugog to swim.

The host was great with communicating outside of the generate messages. The space was perfect for 4 adults and 8 kids under 9. We had lots of fun playing outside in the snow, enjoying the fire pit and of course the hot tub.
The whole trip was fantastic. The rooms were incredibly clean and the beds were very comfortable. All of the amenities were well maintained and the kitchen was perfect for our cooking needs. The Jacuzzi was great too! This being my first experience with Vrbo, I was worried about the possibility that my group and I would be at the mercy of overtly vigilant owners but that wasn't the case at all! We all felt incredibly free to enjoy the beautiful property without interruption and the mutual trust between ourselves and the owners was evident. Communication with the owners was seamless and they were quick to provide aid if I needed it. I would strongly recommend this place for anyone looking to experience a worry-free serene, and comfortable cottage getaway and I will definitely be returning in the summer!
This was a great place to stay with two families, kids and dogs. The cottage is very well appointed, clean and comfortable. Lovely and easily accessible neighbourhood. Hot tub and view of the water are excellent. Highly recommend!
The property is well equipped and very clean. It was easy to communicate with the host. The guests all enjoyed the stay at the cottage and are already planning another visit.
Loved the cottage, it was extremely clean and had all the extras. The hot tub was a bonus and the family enjoyed the evening soaks! The lake was great for kayaking and canoeing. Lots of amnesties close by. Excellent communication and seamless check in/check out process. We would stay here again.
We had a wonderful four-night stay at this cozy yet spacious winter cottage while celebrating Christmas with our family. The cottage was beautifully set up for the season—warm, comfortable, and thoughtfully equipped with everything we needed to relax and enjoy time together. There was plenty of room for everyone, making it easy to gather, unwind, and create special holiday memories.Alan and Shane were truly excellent hosts. They were friendly, attentive, and made sure everything was perfect from start to finish. Their communication was prompt and welcoming, and they went above and beyond to ensure our stay was comfortable and stress-free.This cottage was the perfect setting for a festive family getaway, and we wouldn’t hesitate to return. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a peaceful, welcoming winter retreat.
Nice property on the lake, very private (down a deadend road), 10 mins to the nearest town and 20 mins to bigger town/shops. Great sunset view from the hot tub. Our kids really loved the games inside and the campfire.
We really enjoyed our long weekend; the cottage was clean, comfortable and had everything you could possibly need. I was very impressed by the kitchen gear, linens and the new, clean hot tub. I would definitely recommend this cottage.
It is our second time renting this property for an extra long weekend! We enjoyed ourselves immensely at the Oakdene cottage. The cottage is clean and spacious and has many indoor and outdoor amenities to keep our group of 8 entertained. The sunsets were amazing and the tranquility of the lake can't be beaten. Thanks again Alan and Shane for making sure the entire weekend went smoothly. Silvana B.
We had a lovely stay at Oakdene Cottage. We had everything we needed. The cottage was fully equipped and the listing is accurate. Lots of room for our family of 7. The hot tub was wonderful and it was great to wake up to a beautiful view of the lake!
We had the most amazing time celebrating a special birthday weekend with family at this beautiful cottage. Everything was perfect — from the peaceful lake views to cozy evenings by the fire. The cottage was spotless, well-equipped, and full of charm. The hosts thought of everything, making it feel like a true home away from home. It was the perfect setting for reconnecting, laughing, and creating memories we’ll cherish forever. We can’t wait to come back!Highly recommend for anyone looking for a relaxing and heartwarming escape. Thank you for helping make this birthday celebration truly special!
Beautiful cottage right on the water! Three sisters and their small families stayed the weekend to re-connect. Highchair, diaper genie and baby gates were available!! Spent the days on peddle boats, hot tubbing, lovely walks, and playing board games indoors. Would HIGHLIY recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway with friends or family.
This place has everything you need, very detailed and well thought out for family get togethers. As soon as we walked in we could smell how clean and organized everything was. There are notes to help show what each button does and literally EVERYTHING you could want or need is in this gorgeous place. From kayaks to hot tub to an arcade, this was an amazing stay. And due to neighbors I would only recommend this place for quiet groups.
We rented the Oakdene Cottage for an extended weekend in June 2024. It is a clean and spacious 4 bedroom cottage with a spectacular view of the tranquil bay. Cottage was organized and had an abundance of indoor and outdoor towels. Hot tub, 2 adult kayaks, pedal boat, fire pit, dock and green grass area allowed for outdoor fun for all! Communication before, during and after our stay was professional and informative. Would highly recommend renting this cottage!

Every year a group of us go up north for the Family Day long weekend, and this cottage is one we will 100% be going back to! Best part for us was the large and very comfy couch area, which we used for watching movies and just reading and chatting. The upstairs had a very large table which sat everyone with ease, and was a nice secondary spot to hang out in. The bedrooms are all upstairs which is good for those who like to go to sleep early, so they can be away from the TV area. The kitchen had everything we needed, and most things were labeled which made findings things and putting them away very easy. The kitchen is on the smaller side, but prep can move to the dining room table as required, and it was not an issue at all to cook for 8 adults. There were enough garbage and recycling bags, as well as tea towels and other bathroom linen, which was a real bonus. Beds were comfy (medium firm memory foam) and we all slept well. My husband has a bad back and so his endorsement says a lot! The hot tub was the nicest one I've ever been in. You get the sense that these hosts want to provide a quality experience and have invested wisely to ensure they can do so over the long haul (Bose speakers, nice mattresses, good quality couches, great hot tub etc). All communication was smooth and very helpful! We would all highly recommend this property for your fall / winter gatherings! Thank you :)
We were looking for a cozy spot to spend thanksgiving with 1 set of grandparents, 4 adult kids and 2 grandkids and this place delivered. We loved the hot tub and games included which entertained everyone. We made a bonfire and roasted marshmallows and had cozy movie nights with LOTS of sitting areas with the big screen tv.
The grandkids loved the bunk beds and the adults loved having our own rooms with very comfy queen size beds!! There are 4 bedrooms total but 2 couches downstairs open up to become beds. Loved having all amenities provided. Made it easier!!
Would highly recommend. Close to Lindsey and Port Perry
Thanks for a great long weekend.
Gorgeous setting. Bay area off Lake Scugog - private, quiet with easy boating thru to the Lake.
Lots of fishing and wildlife entertainment - hawks carrying fish, herons, geese, frogs and even a beaver.
Location was ideal - less than 2 hrs from Hamilton.
Beautiful place
Super clean, stocked and great attention from owner.
Everything in perfect working order - all brand new! Appliances and washer/dryer.
Fabulous hot tub ! Lots of outdoor seating. On balcony off kitchen and huge deck out front and back - all composite decking. New cushions, with easy storage in case of rain.
Fully modernized with electronics available for personal use.
Great internet - fast and NEVER down
Owner is in constant contact -willing and very cooperative.
Beds new and comfortable- A/C is beyond good!
Would HIGHLY recommend!!!
This cottage was the best vacation we could have asked for. Less than 2 hours away from the big city, we felt like we got the full cottage experience. The unit was equipped and labelled with everything and anything you could have asked for. The hot tub, fire pit and views of the lake were serene. Kayaks and pedal-boats to keep the water lovers happy. Comfortable beds and washrooms to make you feel at home. A beautiful bbq so you can grill to your hearts desires. Outdoor and indoor dining with a view. Alan was a pleasure to deal with and to communicate wit, he made sure we had zero issues with our stay. Not only do I recommend this place to my family and friends, but I plan on staying here again in the future!
Having booked this location as a unit of University students living in the same room, the owners of this property made the place seem welcoming and safe place to stay but trust me when I say do not come here because they are dishonest owners who do not stay true to what they say. We lost a lot of money dealing with these troublesome owners. Don't waste your time and money here.

We are truly sorry that you feel this way about your experience with us - We are very clear in the cottage description and House Rules as to what our expectations are. We take COVID regulations set by the Ontario Government very seriously.
We expected that you would communicate honestly with us about the size of your group and nature of your stay. We take our role as a host very seriously and work hard to make our cottage a safe, thoughtful, and welcoming place for all our guests.
Just returned from a much needed recharge at this cozy cottage. The hospitality was top-notch from booking to check out. The cottage was fully stocked and well organized, while the owners were highly attentive. Alan even timed the heat and hot tub to our arrival. Our kids did not want to leave.
Their highlights - skating on the lake, dipping in the hot tub, gaming on the main floor and our daughter wants us to make special mention of her bedroom complete with a crib for her stuffies;) Our highlights - panoramic lake (and sunset) views, soaking in the hot tub, warming over the fire pit, lounging on the main floor and eating large in the kitchen. There is nothing we did without and appreciated all the touches from toiletries to labelled everything. A fantastic find we highly recommend and look forward to revisiting.
