Summary:
Gorgeous country escape set on 2 pastoral acres of a lovely meadow in the Taconic Range. Enjoy mountain biking at Catamount (a 5 minute drive), hiking waterfalls at Bash Bish Falls, or relaxing in the comfortable Adirondack chairs by the fire pit in the meadow.
The Space:
We aim to create a relaxing, enjoyable stay at the Chalet, so we've taken care of most of the things you'll need, including fresh linens and towels from Brooklinen, basic toiletries, basic kitchen equipment, and some pantry staples (e.g. olive oil, salt, etc.). If you're planning a big meal, or need something more specific, please check the House Guide, which includes more information, helpful tips, and general guidelines for guests.
Accessibility:
There are 2 bedrooms and 1 full bath on the first floor. The other 2 bedrooms and bath are upstairs. There are steps within the house to get from the kitchen/dining area into the living area and there are 2 steps to enter the house.
Guest Access:
We provide electronic access to the house with a personal guest code. You'll receive the code 24 hours prior to checkin, though your code will only activate at check-in.
The Neighborhood:
The Berkshires are a stunning mountain region and Great Barrington is at the nexus of the Berkshires and the Hudson Valley, so gourmet grocers and large supermarkets are nearby, as well as outstanding restaurants, coffee and tea shops, shopping, yoga, and more. The perfect home base for hiking and camping at Mount Washington State Forest, the Chalet is also conveniently located for skiing, arts and cultural institutions, and more. You'll find plenty of things to do. We've assembled a list of our favorites in the House Guide, and we're happy to answer additional questions by text.
Getting Around:
You'll need a car to get here and get around and the drive will be beautiful! Since cell service can be inconsistent in the country, we recommend that you download the region's online maps to your phone before your trip.
Other Things to Note:
WHAT TO PREPARE
You'll find plenty of things to do during your stay. We recommend making reservations in advance, where appropriate, especially for popular restaurants, museums, and venues. We've assembled a list of our favorites in the House Guide, and we're happy to answer additional questions by text.

Nature & What to pack:
We urge guests to pay close attention when enjoying nature, weather can change quickly and wild animals can be surprising. Because temperatures in the mountains can fluctuate widely, even in the height of summer, we recommend packing sweaters and light, cold-weather gear just in case. Depending on the activities you plan, we recommend packing hiking, running, swimming, horseback riding, and/or running gear. We also recommend that guests consider spraying clothes with Permethrin when walking outside, to help avoid ticks. In winter we recommend guests pack several layers of warm clothing and ensure that their vehicles are ready for potential snowfall. For other clothing, most venues around are very casual.
Interaction with Guests:
You'll have open access to the house, screened porch, and expansive grassy yard. Since we value privacy on our own travels, we generally give guests lots of space. But we're nearby and happy to help. Check out our house book for tips.
