Historic 3-Bed 'Bostane Cottage' 5 minutes to City
Summary:
"Bostane Cottage" is your cozy and character-filled retreat in West Hobart. Built circa 1860, this historic home seamlessly blends old-world charm with modern comforts. The eclectic mix of vintage and contemporary furnishings creates a warm and inviting atmosphere that will make you feel right at home.
The Space:
Enjoy magical sunrises over the Derwent River, visible from the comfort of your bedroom, and explore Hobart’s vibrant city center, just a short drive away. Whether you’re here for a relaxing getaway or an adventure in the heart of Tasmania, Bostone Cottage offers the perfect sanctuary.
The character starts before you walk in the door. The “ever so English” raised footpath leads you to the original cast iron gate, up stone steps bordered by a rambling cottage garden.
Step inside to a hallway with unique walls made from hand sawn cedar. This workmanship follows through to the main bedroom with Queen bed which is a generous size and includes a quirky split-level dressing area with desk, chair, and panel heater.
The second bedroom has beautiful cedar floorboards and an open fireplace (not operational) and a panel heater.
A few steps take you up a level to the cozy living area, with reverse cycle air conditioning and very comfortable couch, and a third single bedroom with panel heater. There is a TV with DVD (plenty of great movies) and Wi Fi to keep you entertained. There a well kitted-out kitchen in which to whip up a feast with all that local Tassie produce you buy. Also off the kitchen is a laundry with washing machine, clothes dryer, iron and ironing board.
In warmer weather, there is a gorgeous little courtyard and garden to enjoy.
The cottage is unique, it’s fun, it’s cute and everything you could want for a change of scene… a little step back in time but with all of today’s comforts along for the ride.

The cottage was so beautiful, the heating was perfect, and everything was very clean, we felt very safe and comfortable, quick and cheap uber to all the shops and markets, a few steps to the cottage could be difficult for some .
Bostane Cottage is charming and comfortable. The condition and facilities are exactly as advertised. It’s only a 15-minute walk to the waterfront and there’s a great cafe - Pigeon Hole - nearby.
comfortable, warmly and homely environment, loved the outdoor courtyard, beautifullly appointed kitchen, super comfy beds and pretty garden, Great location and car parking outside the house. Lots of useful information at cottage and very kindly the owners left lots of kitchen pantry items. Many thanks for a wonderful holiday

Liked: Cleanliness, amenities, property conditions & facilities, communication
The property was beautiful and well kept. It fitted in to our experience in Hobart. Would highly recommend it.
Our hosts were very communicative and made sure we had everything we need. The cottage is an absolute delight, all amenities are catered for. Be aware that if you are not very fit or have limited mobility, this place is on the top of a steep hill, we ended up having to Uber a fair bit. There is only 2 hour parking during the day, so be mindful of that. The bed wasn’t very comfy for me and in spite of there being 12 pillows throughout the cottage they were all the same and I found it hard to sleep comfortably. The bathroom taps are hard to use, but the shower is hot and again, all amenities provided. If you love uphill walks and really old amazing places, this is the place for you! I loved staying here and would have probably given 5 stars if I wasn’t a fat, unfit old woman who finds it hard to sleep.
This lovely cottage lived up to our expectations. So charming, cosy, full of character. The views from front yard and top of the backyard are incredible. Great neighbourhood, close to everything in the city including Salamanca market, Battery Point, the wharf, cafes, shops, galleries.
We loved the extra little touches in the cottage like the throw blankets in the basket in lounge room. The kitchen was perfect size for the 5 of us.

a little disappointing
As the description says, an older cottage with a few modern inclusions. In need of a few repairs but quite comfortable. Courtyard private and sheltered, but stairs to back garden were falling apart and dangerous. Disappointed with the additional A35 for damage waiver and not being told detail about parking availability. Yes you can park on the street, but 2 hour limit during the week. Would have been useful to have use of owner's parking permit and/or provided with some advice as to where else to park for free. Instead of walking to town (as suggested) we had to drive and pay for parking there. A few things that could easily be rectified and make the stay more enjoyable.
