Musty

The property was easy to find. 30 min -1 hr away from places we visited. There were air fresheners all over the house and a damp-rid container. Once we got home we realized our clothes and things smelled musty and moldy. The yard is not all the way fenced. The gates don’t close all the way and there are holes in the fence. 2 of the 3 surrounding yards had big dogs (including a pit mix) that all barked a lot. The first half of our stay the grass was past our ankles then someone finally cut it. Back door has hinges on the outside so anyone could break in easily. The kitchen, dining, and living room was fine. The internet went out for the second half of our stay. The bedrooms had not been cleaned all the way. I ended up finding items under the beds that weren’t ours. Light switches weren’t in the same room- took us all week to find them since the ones next to the lights didn’t work. We were charged a $100 pet cleaning fee immediately after we left and sent a picture from a house with different paint and carpet to “prove” this was our mess. However, the closet that they claimed he dirtied was never even open. We walked in, closed the closet doors & put a suitcase in front of them & never opened them again. The mess was also so high up on a wall that there’s no way our dog could have done it. We had to download an app we never used & owners took a long time to reply to us when we had a question/ problem.

Disgusting & Disappointing

The home had a strong cigarette smell, the house was extremely dirty, there were 3 bath towels left for 3 guests that were old & stained. There was a coffee pot on the counter w/no ingredients or cups found in the home. The furniture was heavily stained, but the beds were comfortable. Not a good VRBO experience.

So Disappointing

I’ve never left a negative review and I have stayed in a lot of VRBO rentals. Unfortunately this home fell way short of what we’re accustomed to. When we arrived, 5 minutes after the set arrival time of 4pm, the home was not ready. The cleaner said he needed at least another hour. We made the most of it and left and came back after 6. We could tell immediately the cleaner rushed and skipped cleaning some parts including a bathroom. There was residue in the toilet from the previous renters bowel movement which was gross. The tub in that bath had a big hair ball right in the middle of it. One of the beds made without top sheet or pillows. I later found these missing items in the dryer. We saw a few ants on day one and by the next day they were all over the sink. We did not leave any food out but they still took over the kitchen counters. The kitchen is not well stocked and didn’t have any coffee mugs. Who provides a coffee maker but no mugs? We went out and bought hand soap because the bathroom soap was essentially and an old soap bottle refilled with mostly water. There was dog hair from a previous renter all over the bedroom floors. Anything on the floor ended up covered in dog hair. We have non shedding dogs so we’re not used to dog hair on everything. And lastly the fenced yard is missing a couple panels of wood causing a big hole in the fence. My dogs could of easily made it in to the next door neighbor’s yard and bolted if they wanted to. This home has a lot of potential and a deep clean/upkeep, bug exterminator, and some thoughtful items like coffee mugs could go a long way. Last note, after letting the owners/property manager know about the late check in and then the cleanliness issue shortly after, they responded 3 days later apologizing and compensated us a very, very small amount. I’m not sure why I have to pay a cleaning full cleaning fee when I didn’t get the benefit of enjoying a clean house.
