In a quiet pocket of Wye River amongst tree ferns and eucalypts, Fern House is perfectly positioned for you to enjoy the best of both bush and beach. Nestled in the lush green on the edge of the Otway Ranges, a short 600 metre walk will take you to the beach, General Store and Wye Beach Hotel. Immerse yourself in the spectacular natural surroundings where the sounds of birdsong blend with the echo of the ocean waves. Drive to the door (a luxury in the hills of Wye) and unload into the recently renovated single level house. When one of the owners is an architect there is no flat pack kitchen here! The brand new kitchen has all new appliances, loads of bench space, cupboards and draws full of utensils and a funky breakfast bar. There is a big dining table with views out to the trees through large glazed sliders which also give access to the deck and BBQ area. Cosy up on the couch by the wood heater or flick the switch on the wall heater and if you can’t handle the heat in the kitchen there’s always the air-con. Off the living area is a laundry/storage/bathroom area with another door to outside for easy post beach access. A short hallway leads to the two bedrooms both with ample wardrobe space if you're thinking of a longer stay. Separate heating units will keep you warm on cool winter nights and large sliding windows will let in the summer breeze while you sleep. The main bedroom with en-suite has a queen size bed and the second bedroom a king size or two king singles. (You will need to specify your bedding preference for the second bedroom) There are hills in Wye River so be prepared for some hilly walks. If you have a truck load of beach gear then there is plenty of parking by the beach. Wye River is a little more than a two hour drive from Melbourne and we recommend you have your own transport to explore more of the beautiful Otway Ranges and the Great Ocean Road. There is private off street parking on site for up to 2 vehicles. A rail service to Geelong and bus service from Geelong link Melbourne to Wye River.
I live locally so give me a call, preferably between 8am-9pm.

The place was beautiful and Wye river is the best town on the great ocean road!! Mary had everything we needed, including a very well stocked kitchen. Thanks Mary!!
We loved our stay. True to advertised photos. We had two late evening koala guests on the balcony as we had a glass of wine, highlight of our stay! The home is cosy, was warm on arrival, (thank you Mary) and we took the king bed in the second bedroom which was heaven to sleep in. It’s a lovely walk down to the Wye beach and rock pools but a challenging walk back, I did it at 59 years so absolutely doable. A great tranquil stay for us.thanks Mary for your warm welcome and prior communication.
This place is a stylish, cosy little 70s tree house situated in lush rainforest. On Christmas Day, a beautiful king parrot flew onto my partner's shoulder while we were on the balcony. Then, the rosellas and cockatoos came to say hello. The kitchen was perfect for cooking a big Christmas meal, with massive bench space, sharpened knives and good utensils. It was perfect!
Mary has a wonderful property, we loved our stay at Fern house! Mary was also great in providing us with information around events occurring the weekend of our stay and more then happy to accommodate check in and check out times.
Pics don't do the place justice. It's quiet, private, spacious, cozy, plenty of wildlife around, and close walking distance to what is needed to wind down.
