Ready to escape the hustle and bustle of the city? The Cottage on the Farm provides the perfect getaway. This newly renovated shabby chic cottage features a walk out patio with a comfy conversation set and fire table. Your nearest neighbours are of the four-legged variety and will probably drop by for a quick visit. Caution! Millie, the black angus heifer, considers herself to be quite the hairstylist—she specializes in cowlicks. In addition to cows, the farm also is home to sheep, goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, a couple of horses and a donkey. And, of course, we have a bunch of dogs. And, please, the cottage is a dog free zone so don’t let them convince you it isn’t!

Inside the cottage, you’ll be able kick back and relax by enjoying your favorite streaming services on the smart tv or play a board game or do a jigsaw puzzle. The heat pump affords a comfortable climate, automatically heating or cooling as the temperature dictates. You can whip up a meal or snack in the efficient kitchen fitted out with a Breville microwave/air fryer/toaster oven, induction hot plate, and electric grill as well as dishes, glasses, pots and pans. You’ll find some farm eggs in the fridge as a welcome gift.

Centrally located on Vancouver Island, the cottage is only 8.3km from the airport, 17.7km from the Duke Point ferry terminal, and 25 km from the Departure Bay ferry terminal. There are several parks near by, including the Yellowpoint Ecological Reserve only 1.4km away, Blue Heron Park 3.5km, Robert’s Memorial Park 6km, and Elliot’s Beach Park 14.4km. The Nanaimo River also offers several accessible fresh water swimming areas for your summertime fun.

Other nearby amenities include the McNabb’s corn maze open in the fall, Yellowpoint Farms Petting Farm and Farm Store, the Cranberry Farm Store, and the Chuckwagon Gas & Go corner store just down the way. There is a farmer’s market in Duncan every Saturday and one in Cedar by Woodbank School summer Sundays.

The cottage is a stand alone, private cottage overlooking a field. It is on a working farm, complete with a variety of animals, farmer, barns and main house on site.

Go relax with cows!!

This place is amazing. The friendliness of all the animals on the farm, the dogs 😍, the hospitality, the thoughtfulness, all made this the perfect birthday getaway. Enjoying my morning tea while giving face scratches to a cow...there is nothing more awesome! I will definitely be back.

Sandy, mother, has been a farmer her whole life. While raising her daughters, she wrote Harlequin Romance novels and boarded horses. Now she is the old McDonnell that had a farm, with a oink, oink here, a moo moo there, and more!
Leslie, daughter, sells real estate in Vancouver fulltime and divides her time on the family farm.
Together this duo is unstoppable. They work on sustainable farming, food security and humane practices. All of the animals have names and purposes. They share an obsession for cooking good food.

Why they chose this property

Enjoy a relaxing stay in your own stand alone, one bedroom cottage.
The private cottage offers a bedroom with a queen sized bed. Living room with a pull out couch with another queen size bed. Kitchenette, complete with farmhouse sink, induction cook top, microwave/oven/air fryer all in one unit, and electric griddle. There is even in-suite laundry!
The cottage is also equipped with a bathroom and private shower.
There is high speed internet and a television. You will be able to stream television and movies from your devices. Apologies, no streaming subscriptions are included. That being said, there are old fashioned board games and puzzles to pass the time, should you opt to disconnect!
The farm has been referred to as the jewel of Yellow Point in Ladysmtih, BC. While you relax on your private patio, you over look fields filled with cows, sheep and pigs. Why yes, they may even come up to the fence and you can pet them.
Want to pet more animals, there is a petting farm less than a mile away where you can even partake in goat yoga!
