What would life be to wake up to such an AMAZING sunrise on a clear day and among wildlife! Often "wow-ed" by its panorama and zen, this piece of opportunistic paradise is offered to suitable guests. Guests who love nature, organic views and a chance to stay on "the Hills". Come open minded. An open mind will allow guests to enjoy if not bask in the perfections/imperfections of a modest, non-contemporary house that has withstood multiple natural disasters and walk away with a 5 star adventure.
The space
The house is opposite Grants Picnic Grounds with fantastic walking trails to enjoy Sherbrooke Forest in the Dandenong Ranges National Park. The Park is home to rare plants, trees, lyrebirds, wallabies, echidnas, wombats. An abundance of the world’s tallest flowering tree, the mountain ash, towers over the picnic ground, trails and BBQ areas. It is a highly popular destination for tourists looking for pristine surroundings and forest walking trails.
The house itself is 60 years old, this is a Nature's escape and not a Luxury escape, adjust your expectations accordingly. A charming cottage in its original build on a large block of land, while greatly cared for, shows its age in the occasional place. Expect to find some loving wear, quaint aging, wholesome patina inside and outside the house. Ahhh if it could speak about the secrets it holds with creaking floorboards, vintage stains, warped wall panels that cannot be restored, dusting of earth, droppings from wildlife which may also be guests, streaks left by the force of nature doing its thing, and other rustics only found in "the Hills".
With a king size bed in the master bedroom and a double bed in the second room, the property is best suited to couples or two adults.
Any other guests than two adults will attract additional fees at $50pp per night. Well behaved and house trained pets at an extra fee of $50 per pet are welcome. Couples with infants (below 2yo) are also welcome. Infants are not charged however please note that the property does not have a baby cot, baby chair, is not child-proof, etc. Guests will need to BYO for their infants. Anyone not indicated on the booking is not permitted to stay. The one exception is the unavoidable situation where a child has to stay and/or is not registered in the booking as a child. An additional $50 per child per night will be charged in these situations.
Guest access
You will have the entire house to yourself except for a single room and one of the living areas. These will be locked up for storage.
There is a 3 seater sofa with chaise in the living room facing the large windows with scenic views. This is where you would want to sit and have a cuppa or a glass of wine, enjoy the birds as they swoop in and feed on the wildbird seeds or just sit and live in the moment! So, so serene and zen! Or if the weather is great, have a sit on the deck and enjoy the outdoors. You might be lucky to see a visiting echidna or spot a "black" cockatoo.
Alternatively, connect to the fast internet and be online while appreciating the serenity of your surroundings. The property has NBN internet connection.
Other things to note
To maximise your stay, I would recommend that you live in the moment and immerse totally in nature, no tv, phones, etc. Whether you are up here by yourself or a couple or with family members or friends, just let yourselves go and leave all your worries or daily stress behind you. Go and enjoy all the wonderful walking trails of The Sherbrooke Forest, or have a picnic or BBQ at Grants Picnic Grounds. Go to the Tea Rooms for the best Devonshire Tea or takeaway and enjoy it at home. The Backyard has a large meadow with rolling hills and you could potentially sight the neighbour's farm animals of Alpacas, ponies, sheep, etc. The lookout is one of the BEST in the area (check out photos posted) and you can picnic there or lie and bask in the sun. One will normally have the entire area to themselves, this is a Private Area and I shall provide details on how to access to guests only.
