We enjoyed everything about this property. The fenced area was perfect for our dogs. The inside was super clean and had all amenities we needed. Strong WiFi, tv had all possible options (I made it a Disney movie weekend ;) We drive a very large truck so parking was a bit tricky to get back out but a normal sized vehicle would have no issue. Wish I could revisit when more plants are in bloom. Beautiful tulips out front and I saw hydrangeas and peonies in back that will be gorgeous. Had a fabulous trip and not a single issue from this home!!
Peale was super. Extremely prompt answering all our needs . She communicated great. The home is very comfortable and has amazing extras throughout the entire home. Would highly recommend it to anyone!
the owner was extremely helpful & kind. She made chocolate chip cookies for the humans & doggie treats for our pet. We had a wonderful stay. Thank you so much

Wonderful stay at a very clean property, with great location. Nice little breakfast/lunch diner right around the corner. Central location. Very nicely remodeled property. Highly recommend!
The property and location was perfect for us. We traveled from out of state with our well behaved dogs and needed a fenced yard. The fenced yard is HUGE and our dogs loved it. The house and kitchen was fully stocked allowing us to bake, entertain, and have coffee every morning. The bathrooms were stocked with all basic necessities. The host was incredibly nice and very accessible and accommodating.

Lovely stay during a heat wave
We had a wonderful stay in Fox River Grove. The house was conveniently located to all the areas in both Lake & McHenry county we were visiting. The house was cozy and cool (we visited during quite a heat wave). Perla, the onsite host, was incredibly accommodating and very responsive. She even offered us a baby bath once she knew we had a baby with us. I would recommend this house to anyone else visiting the area needing a place that comfortably fits 6 adults (and a baby!).

Best regards for the whole family!

Great house. Modern kitchen, comfy beds. While we did not have small children with us, I appreciated that the house was completely baby proofed if you needed it. Would absolutely stay here again.
Home was fine. Kitchen well equipped.
Location good. Neighbor property very poorly kept.
Unfortunate for the host who was wonderful. We appreciated her communication with us!

Comfy Place
My family and I got to spend memorial weekend here, and can I just say, it's such an amazing place. We had two toddlers with us and the place definitely was kid-friendly enough for the kiddos to run around. They even had toys for the kids to play with! The host was super responsive and nice! The backyard was huge enough for our dogs to run around. The area was quite and nothing bad happened. Close enough to grocery stores and a few restaurants. Will be coming back here!

Wonderful Stay!
We had a wonderful stay here. The property is clean, stylish and comfortable. The kitchen is well equipped and has really nice upgrades. The bathrooms are pretty and very functional. The beds, sheets and pillows are nicer than most VRBO houses we have stayed in.The location is nice too, all the stores you need are around the corner but the house is tucked in a quiet neighborhood with large lots. Don't let the first house you see set your expectations for the neighborhood. We met one Perla one evening, she sometimes lives on site, although you would not be aware that she is there. She is warm and welcoming. All in all a great experience.
The property owner and the property are outstanding. Perla was very flexible over any requests we made and incredibly prompt at responding to these. The house itself is very well stocked with everything you need for a great stay. The kitchen has so many cupboards and drawers full of everything you could need for cooking. There is also a lovely Keurig coffee machine with lots of pods supplied. There was snacks available for us when we arrived. The bathroom supplies also go above and beyond. The rooms are very well kept and there is plenty of space in the house to eat together or relax. There are some board games available. The yard is very spacious.Cleanliness was very good throughout the property. All in all a great place to stay and we will be back again.

Liked: Check-in, communication
very nice host
House price is in line with the finish and cleanliness. Host was very nice and responsive. Hot water in one of the showers was very difficult to regulate. House was cute, Kitchen was very nice. Yard was a bit overgrown and there was a distinct odor of dog. All things very easy to fix so hopefully owner will make the improvements for the next guests.
We stayed here for 2 weeks. My main concern prior to arrival was being so close to Metra train tracks. We could hardly hear the trains, so it was not a problem. Neighborhood was very quiet.
Pros: 1) Perla, our host, was excellent at communicating and handling any questions or concerns
2) Extra large backyard was perfect for our dog
3) great location; close to family & friends
Cons: 1) No convenient access to a washer/dryer-this could be difficult for longer stays
2) Older home that is still a work in progress
3) As of August 2023, windows do not have screens. If you want to open windows for fresh air, bugs can get inside too
We chose this house for its location between reunion events we traveled to. It was comfortable for us as a family. The host was very gracious, leaving us treats as a welcome and when she discovered we had dogs she gifted them too. We really enjoyed the interaction with her as a host for that reason.
Six traveled, all adults and the house fit us well. The house has two full bathrooms but be aware of some water pressure issues. There is no laundry so pack accordingly. The kitchen is well stocked to support homecooked dinners. The decor was very comfortable. The large backyard is fenced in so you can let a dog out without a leash - very nice for us travelers.
The approach to the house does not give it justice as a neighboring house gives a first timer some concerns. However the neighborhood felt safe, grocery/pharmacy are close by, and restaurants are close by (check out a Chicago tradition with Lou Malnatis Pizza).
We enjoyed our trip and the house complemented that enjoyment.

Convenient, Family Friendly Home
If I could give 4.5 stars I would, as this property was a great home base for my family’s recent trip to the Chicago area. The home has a nice layout that can easily accommodate a whole family, and even comfortably hosted additional visitors for dinner. We didn’t cook much (Yummy Asian Bistro was a particular hit) but the kitchen was well-stocked to do so. The foyer with skylights was a lovely space for me to practice yoga in every day, he yard is relatively large, and there are many other thoughtful details, especially helpful for those with young children, such as most outlets being protected. The street on which it is located is peaceful and quiet, and although it isn’t the ritziest neighborhood in the area, it is very conveniently located to many stores, restaurants, etc., and also to major roads & highways to get to other areas of the suburbs or to downtown Chicago. The property owner is very friendly and welcoming, and check in and check out were smooth.
My only disappointment was with the sensitivity of the plumbing - while I appreciate that homes with septic systems need a little more TLC, the water pressure in the en suite bathroom was uncomfortably weak (all of us ended up sharing the shower in the second bathroom, which was good), and the need to dispose of used toilet paper in the wastebasket was, in my opinion, a bit inconvenient and unsanitary. But, given the lack of good accommodations in the area and all the other advantages of the property, I wouldn’t consider that a deal-breaker for a return stay. Thanks very much!

Not a bad stay, but definitely not the best
Let me start off by saying the owner of the home was very nice and supplied us with a little hand written note as well as a binder with tons of useful information inside. When we had a question about a water softener being used, she was able to answer our question quickly. However, there were a few things about the home that were off putting. When you first enter, there is a bedroom right off the foyer. The couple that was with us claimed that room, so that we could be close to our children in the main area of the house. Upon entering the room off the foyer, the bathroom had urine in the toilet. At first we thought it was the color of the hard water, but after flushing we found out otherwise. There were loose screws, a vent cover completely on the floor (exposing the very dirty and dusty hole in the wall) and the window sills were dirty and had dead bugs and cobwebs as though the room hadn’t been cleaned in some time. My friend’s husband cleaned the bottom of the shower and was surprised at how incredibly dirty it was. The baseboards also weren’t the cleanest. The walls were a weird shade of black that wasn’t quite filled in, and there were names written on the walls as well. Our friends ended up not feeling comfortable sleeping in the room, and instead slept on the futon in the living room. The house is old, but has lots of character. Our bed in the main bedroom was very comfortable. The rest of the house seemed very clean. Also, it may be our fault, but we didn’t realize the owner stays on the premises in an RV. It wouldn’t have been a problem had we realized it sooner - but that was a bit of a surprise too. Overall, for the nearly thousand dollars we paid, I did expect it to be a bit cleaner. We ended up leaving a night early just because our friends really weren’t comfortable on the futon, and that room off the foyer just wasn’t clean enough. I did take photos of everything just incase. This could be a great spot to stay. A wonderful brunch spot around the corner was definitely the highlight of the location (The Brunch Cafe). I would just recommend maybe updating that room a bit and making sure it’s as clean as the rest of the house.

Hi Mark, we appreciate your feedback and are glad to hear you found the main areas of the house clean and comfortable. The homeowner also appreciates your insights and wanted to address the following points:
-The yellowish liquid in the bathroom was CLR (Calcium, Lime, and Rust remover) used to treat hard water buildup. The homeowner will ensure it is fully flushed before guest arrivals in the future to avoid any confusion or discomfort.
-The room off the foyer should have been locked since the reservation was made for two guests, but it was mistakenly left open. The house was not fully prepped for a larger group.
-The pre-stay information states "The homeowner lives on-site, in a completely separate unit, and may be present during your stay", which allows for quick responses to guest questions, though we understand that this might come as a surprise if not noticed prior to booking.
We appreciate your suggestions for updating and ensuring consistent cleanliness in every room, and the homeowner is committed to making those improvements. Thank you again for your feedback, and we hope the rest of your stay offered some enjoyable moments, especially with that nearby brunch spot!
