Agapantha Cottage - Country in the City, original artwork, wkly/mthly discounts
Agapantha Cottage is set in a shared garden that also has vegetables, fruit trees (orange, lemon, lime, apricot, cherry, fig, kiwi, plum, olive and apple) and ponds. There are (over 2000) agapantha flower heads that line the driveway and garden beds in summer.
Vintage furniture has been revamped with original art works on the walls. The Cottage is self contained with a full working kitchen including microwave, oven, sandwich maker, toaster, wok, full fridge/ freezer, coffee pod machine. There is a washing machine, clothes rack and split aircon unit as well. Great for family, writers and artists. A comfortable queen bed and a single rollaway bed (*on request* and set up as needed in the living area) are available. Strictly no parking inside the driveway gate as the drive is too narrow. Unload in front of gate if necessary, then park in bays or on the street, which only has local traffic. A local shopping centre is nearby with 2 restaurants, fish/chip shop, massage and Pilates shops, chemist, butcher, grocer, newsagent and petrol station.
* * * * * * Canberra has many museums, galleries, parks (with gas bbqs), bushwalking trails, bike paths, lake activities (kayaking, sailing, boat touring, swimming, boat peddling), amazing childrens playgrounds including road safety for bikes, the arboretum with banksia pods (see my photo). There are great restaurants nearby at the Belconnen Lakeside. Markets are also a feature notably Kingston Markets on every Sunday, Hall Market on 1st Sunday of the month and close to the Cottage, the Jamieson Market also on Sundays.
Canberra is also known as the garden city or bush capital. The famous Floriade festival of bulbs and gardens at the Lake Burley Griffen and the private Tulip Top Gardens, held in Spring, is highly recommended. Agapantha Cottage was a lovely place for me and my 9 year old son to stay for a couple of nights during the school holidays. It is only a 15min drive to the city where all the museums are, which is what we came to see. The cottage was clean, cosy with all the lovely antique furniture, the wifi, netflix and aircon came in handy during the heatwave, the kitchen was easy to cook in, and the garden is beautiful. We'd definitely like to stay there again and would highly recommend it to others.

Thank you for your lovely review and i appreciate your patience with my muckup.
This is a quaint little cottage next to the owner’s house with a pretty separate garden for guest use. We enjoyed having breakfast outside. The cottage is very well equipped. It was easy to communicate with the owner and it was a short drive (15 mins) into the centre of Canberra.
of all the places we stayed(15).Agapantha provided all our needs(2 people,5nights).travelling for 4 weeks and at the end of our trip, couldn't have found a better place to relax.lovely garden.....quiet area.wish we'd had more time to spend in the lovely cott., and the leafy garden.entire surrounds of cottage made one feel SWITCHED OFF.we would recommend Agapantha to any couple visiting Canberra...wished we had had more time there.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, location
Disliked: Listing accuracy
The cottage itself is very lovely! It was clean and the kitchen was equipped with everything we needed. The listing could be updated to note that this a shared housing block where you walk past the main house including deck and front door entrance down a driveway to a granny flat style cottage. While it was private, we could hear the people in the main house and felt the need to keep the curtains drawn the whole time to ensure privacy. All windows opened into the driveway or backyard of the main house.

Very sorry you were disturbed by the noise after 9 pm from the orher guests. I do have a rule concerning this. Had i known i would have spoken to them. Also the description mentions that the backyard is shared by other guests. I am very careful to see that the privacy of all guests is respected.
We have stayed there at least 3 times and it is always pleasant in a great area of Canberra

About the host
Hosted by Jenny stevens
I love travelling and meeting new people. My four children have grown up and have families of their own. I enjoy making sculptures in stone, wood, paper, metal and even gingerbread. Watercolours and acrylics are another medium I explore. Quilt making was my first adventure. I live in the architect designed main house adjacent to the Cottage. Another separate guest apartment is part of that house and could also be available or occupied.
Why they chose this property
The property was bought in 1994 after having lived in Boston and moving from place to place. Our children and myself grew up in Canberra, my parents lived here for 60 years. I have seen Canberra grow from a small country town to a city with the benefits of both. Lakes, art galleries, restaurants, theatres and nature reserves along with easy traffic and bike paths make it very liveable .
What makes this property unique
From the cottage, there is 5 minutes walk to a nature reserve (adjacent to a working farm) where kangaroos can be seen (at dusk or early morning) with views from the hill overlooking Canberra. A very long slide and playground is at the back of the cottage accessed by a laneway. It is part of the primary school but can be enjoyed out of school hours. There are many attractions close by, especially for families - an abboretum with awesome playground (see photo) and bonsai collection, Cockington Green with miniature houses and train, dinosaur museum and a zoo. The cottage is close to Belconnen Lake with 6 km walk and bbq facilities, art gallery and mall. A local shopping centre has everything you may need, including Woolworths, three restaurants, hairdresser, Thai massage, Pilates studio, groceries, petrol station, pharmacy and KFC.
