About this property
Delightful sunny house with stunning rural & ocean views, swimming pool & spa
Hello, welcome to Skylark Ridge Cottage, a delightful comfortable peaceful sunny two-bedroom holiday house purpose built in 2003 as guest accommodation in a private rural setting with stunning rural and ocean views and 24/7 access to a large solar heated in-ground saltwater swimming pool and spa. This lovely holiday house sits in an elevated position well away from the road with views forever to the North, East and South over farmland, orchards, an olive grove and out to Tasman Bay.
This is a spacious two storey house with kitchen, dining, living, laundry and separate toilet downstairs, and two very comfortable bedrooms and main bathroom upstairs. The soft comfortable beds are made up with fresh clean good quality linen, and fresh clean towels are provided. Bedroom 1 has a Queen bed, armchair, dresser and double wardrobe, and has stunning views from a Juliet Balcony through a picture window to the North. Bedroom 2 can be set up as either two King Single beds or one California King bed, has dresser draws and a wardrobe, armchair, and stunning views to the East and South. As an optional extra a single bed can be added downstairs tucked away between the dining and lounge areas, providing beds for up to five adults, plus a portacot is provided for an infant or toddler (making six people maximum). We have excellent water pressure so you can enjoy a really good shower or bath in the upstairs bathroom.
The lounge has large double bifold doors that open out onto the north facing verandah with outdoor furniture, a BBQ and stunning views to the North, and backs onto an open plan dining and kitchen area. A wall mounted heat pump is provided to help keep the cottage cool in summer and warm in winter, but it is seldom needed as the cottage is a modern build (built 2003) and well insulated. At least one of the opening windows in each room has retractable insect screens installed. Guests at the holiday house enjoy a private raised grass area with BBQ table and extensive views to the sea and surrounding countryside. The lounge has a 55" smart TV and DVD player. If required, an additional single bed can be added downstairs tucked away between the lounge and dining areas for additional cost of $50/night (to sleep five adults in total).
In 2023 the holiday house was fully refurbished with all new flooring and window treatments upstairs and down, new decorations and pictures, and new super comfy armchairs and reading lights for the bedrooms. All windows and exterior doors have curtains or blinds. The downstairs curtains are all double tracked with sheer over blackout curtains, and upstairs all blackout curtains. The large picture window has remote controlled electric blockout blinds.
The holiday house is smoke free. Children are welcome, and there are books, toys, DVD's, portacot, highchair and baby change table provided for them, but please note this is a two storey holiday house without baby gates on the stairs so is not suitable for unsupervised toddlers.
The holiday house shares 2 acres of rural landscaped grounds with the main house that we (the owners of the property) live in. You are welcome to wander in the gardens and grounds and use the hammock. We are pretty much always home but the holiday house is about 10m from the main house and is private, with the outlook and views in a different direction from the main house. While you are at the holiday house we will leave you in peace to enjoy your stay in privacy.
The large in-ground outdoor saltwater swimming pool is solar heated from September to April (so the heating is only effective in spring, summer and autumn). The swimming pool, spa and gardens are shared with the owners of the property, and as a conservative middle-aged couple with traditional values we are a little fussy who we share the facilities with, so please describe your group and intended use and let us know the bed configuration you want in your booking request. Thank you.

About the host
Hosted by Tim
Hello, welcome to our little slice of paradise. We love it here in Nelson, and really enjoy living in such a peaceful and beautiful part of the country. We are a middle-aged couple that shifted here from Wellington a couple of years ago. We have often shared our delightful cottage with friends and family from around the world and are now offering it to you to enjoy also.
Why they chose this property
We are 30 minutes from Nelson Airport, 20 minutes North of Richmond, 10 minutes South of Motueka, 25 minutes from Kaiteretere Beach and the start of the Abel Tasman National Park. With a large heated in-ground saltwater pool and spa it is a wonderful place to relax and enjoy a slice of paradise.
