About this property

The Tickle Inn Saltbox by the Sea

Welcome to the Tickle Inn! This beautiful 200 year old salt box is located Oceanside in the hamlet of Champney’s West in beautiful Trinity Bay, where you can still find real adventure and total escape. Newly renovated to look how the home would have, crooked floors and all, but with all the conveniences of today.

Offering 1550 square feet of comfort, our three bedroom family cottage is beautifully decorated and includes a fully equipped kitchen, open concept living/dining area with decorative old fashioned wood burning cook stove, ensuite washer/dryer and 2 full bathrooms. The master bedroom has queen size bed, queen size bed in the second bedroom, and a twin over double bunk in the third bedroom. All bedrooms curated with local pieces which give the home a truly “Newfoundland” feel combined with spacious living room and dining room make this the perfect size cottage for a large family or group of seven. The bedroom quilts were made for me personally by my wonderful extremely talented Aunt Margaret!

Located within steps of the wharf, aquarium, playground, and hall. There’s a local craft shop and also on the Fox Island Trail. A few minutes drive to Port Rexton Brewery, as well as legendary Skerwink Trail.

The Tickle Inn was just perfect! So cute, so comfortably set up, and immaculately clean. We enjoyed the deck, and we loved the view across the harbour. We just wish we could have stayed longer!

Property was very unique in location, appearance, decor and view of surrounding area, while having all the modern conveniences. Centrally located for exploring the Bonavista area. We loved our stay there, especially hearing the Trinity lighthouse fog horn located about 4 km away on foggy nights.

PROSVery clean & charmingLarge updated bathrooms Comfortable beddingWell stocked kitchenCONSMany inaccuracies in the listing description:1. Mountain view (no mountains anywhere close to here; closest are 100s of kms away).2. Ocean view (while there is an ocean in the vicinity, you cannot see it from the area)3. Beach front (absolutely not)4. Kids play structure/outdoor playground (only item for kids is a large Connect 4 game)5. Extra blankets and pillows (no extras whatsoever)It was quite cool while we stayed here and there is no insulation in the home (just baseboard heating on the main floor - nothing upstairs). We were very cold the first night and could not sleep so I reached out to the host to enquire about the extra blankets. She told me that she was in Toronto, but would order some. We were there for 3 more nights and no blankets showed up and the host never contacted us again. No window coverings downstairs or in the upstairs bathroom; everyone can see in at nightListing states free washer/dryer use, but when we arrived there was no laundry soap provided (host told me it was too expensive)A/C unit downstairs, but upstairs in bedrooms there are no fans at all. In warmer weather, this will make it extremely difficult to sleep.Outdoor garbage overflowing (had not been emptied in weeks)No book of info provided (emergency contacts, area attractions)Window in bunkbed room not to code (too tiny to exit from in emergency)Bedrooms extremely cramped.

Thank you for your feedback, however there are a few details that you missed in the information that is available through this platform. We did not state there is a mountain view. The ocean inlet the vicinity is the Atlantic Ocean, including the inlet in front of the house; the wharf is just a walk around the block, as are beaches closer to Fox Island (a 5 minute walk). It was never stated that the house is beachfront, and the playground is located around the corner from the house. I did place an order through Amazon for additional blankets, but due to the remote location, the delivery was after you had checked out. I apologize for not having them available for you. The A/C unit you are referring to is also a heater; turning up the temperature would have made the house more comfortable. The house is only used in the spring/summer, but it is fully insulated. As stated in the description, the house is over 150 years old; our apologies for the bedrooms not being the size of what you are used to at home. Emergency contact information was also provided to you through this platform.

Cottage in quaint fishing village

Small cottage, which has been restored with modern appliances and living space. The floors are somewhat uneven, and the rooms are small, yet it tightly held our family of 6. Guests need to bring their own soap and shampoos for the bathrooms. Easy access to hiking and has a wonderful view of the harbor.

Great Stay!

Despite the wetter-than-average weather, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We've always loved hiking the Fox Island trail, and it was wonderful being able to do it right from our doorstep! The property was charming and on the few nice days we had during our one week stay, took advantage of the deck. Looking forward to returning!

Champneys west

Great stay in this rustic fisherman’s cottage located right on the bay in champneys west. Convenient to trinity and bonavista. Would have loved to have stayed for more than 4 nights, but the remainder of the island was calling! Simply charming.

Perfect spot

Lovely salt box on the water in Champney’s West. Great trails nearby, peaceful, with lots of whales past English Harbour. The house was exactly as described, and the owner was quick to respond to our very few glitches. We’ll be back!

Champneys West Gem

We had a fantastic stay in Champneys West at Christina's home. It's a great place to use for a central point for your visit to Trinity, Trinity East, Port Rexton, Elliston, and Bonavista. Cozy and well equipped, this home away from home was delightful. Christina is a great and responsive host, who was easy to communicate with, and provided an amazingly quick response to each inquiry both prior to, and during our stay. Comfy beds, excellent BBQ, outstanding kitchen, and the bonus of 2 full bathrooms. We can't say enough about this great spot, We hope to return on a future trip to Newfoundland.

We really enjoyed our stay at this property. It is a very rustic cottage across the road from the waterfront of an inlet. The place is absolutely loaded with charm and great contrasts of modern (the shower stall tiles come to mind) and old (wood slats walls, crooked floors). It was amongst the cleanest VRBOs we have staid at (thank you!). One should know that soundproofing is minimal and the floors are very creaky, but the bedding was very comfortable. No laundry detergent was provided and there was not enough coffee pods for the duration of our stay, but we made do. I didn't reach out to the owner but the stove appears to be defective (turns off on its own after being on for just a few minutes). The stovetop and the BBQ worked perfectly. We'd happily stay there again!
