About the host
Hosted by Briony Glassco
Hello, I'm Briony! I'm a 3rd generation owner of this private conservation home. Our family has spent almost 80 years keeping this historic house maintained and loved. We have been committed land stewards to the wonderfully biodiverse, fruitful, and accessible natural world that surrounds the house. I love to spend my days reading in the many nooks around the house, walking the trails mushroom hunting or birding. In the summer I take long swims across our gorgeous naturally formed 16 acre lake. All this splendor is too much to keep to ones self, and so we believe the land must be shared to greater understand how the natural world works and what beauty the past can give us.
Why they chose this property
My Grandfather bought a parcel of the land in 1946 with intention to regrow the forests, it was a few acres of barren farmers fields. Over the next 76 years, through thoughtful re-wilding, the land flourished to what it is today. As the city expanded, and our family continued to buy neighbouring parcels of land we finally protected all 360 acres of land under the Oak Ridges Moraine Conservation in 2010. Protecting irreplaceable wetlands, forests, and all the fauna in between!
What makes this property unique
This property is truly steeped in history. The house has a long backstory of every artist that has come to stay, every sculpture in the garden, and bespoke china plate. We have spent 80 years ensuring the longevity of this history and the continuity of sustainable forestry and conservation practices. Notable to the property is the now natural nesting sites of the endangered local Painted Turtle (Chrysemis picta) and Trumpeter swans (Cygnus buccinator). Come and enjoy all this property has to offer you!
