About this property
One of the Best You’ll Find! Peace & Quiet - Comfort & Charm;
40 wooded acres of pure peace in the Kiamichi Mountain region of SE Oklahoma. Secluded. Fenced & gated. No neighbors. Hiking trails and tranquil gravel bottomed creek. Modern house/rustic charm - adjoining picturesque Lake Nanih Waiya - This cedar covered cabin is a little piece of luxury in the heart of Kiamichi Country. Just 4 miles from Sardis Lake State Park boat ramp - 5 miles from Clayton. 1/2 hour from Robbers Cave. Just 1.5 miles from the Choctaw Nation Council House, this property has a confluence of 2 creeks that feed into Lake Nanih Waiyhi at the properties edge. Room for parking your boats, RVs and 4-Wheelers. Easy to get to, paved road and city water. The house sits a couple hundred yards back, amid tall trees, surrounded by a heavily wooded tract - so expect an abundance of wildlife. It is directly across the street from the boat ramp road. Fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer and an Amazon Fire Stick for the Smart TV. All you need to bring is groceries.
If you're longing for what I call "the startling absence of man-made sound", you can get it here in a comfortable, new, stylishly earthy setting. It's also an excellent "base" for exploring the area's many beautiful attractions.
If you've never been to Southeast Oklahoma, it looks like the Alleghenies of West Virginia and Pennsylvania - or Asheville, NC. If you're researching a trip, search these key words to get a better idea: Winding Stair Case Mountains, Talimena Scenic Drive, Choctaw Council House - or if you're an Off-Road fan, check out The K-Trail of Oklahoma. It's right here. There is abundant internet lore on the perils, adventures and disasters of the K-Trail. From boulders, to bears to Bigfoot - it is NOT a casual trail. One 8 mile stretch took us 4 1/2 hours in a 4X4.
We call this house "The Fishing Cabin" because it's next to the lake and so close to Sardis Lake as well.
It's actually a modern house with city water, super quiet central air/heat & granite counters.
The town of Clayton has several restaurants, grocery store, pharmacy, auto parts, tire store, liquor store, Dollar store and a hardware store. We have parking for Boats/RVs or motorcycles.

About the host

We travel a lot. And we've been using VRBO for years. This part of Oklahoma is a hidden gem - just beautiful rugged country in the classic eastern (of the Great Divide) sense. Our farm is nearby and we're committed to helping others discover this fantastic escape so surprisingly close to Dallas or Tulsa or OK City.
Why they chose this property
This land had an old shop on it with a hand dug well through the slab in the main room! More importantly, its Creeks feed the Lake. And the fishing is excellent! We thought it deserved protection and preservation. The name, Nanih Waiya is sacred to the Choctaw people.
The first capital of the Choctaw Nation in Indian Territory and the earliest seat of government established within Oklahoma, Nunih Waya was located approximately one and one-half miles west of Tuskahoma in present Pushmataha County. Nunih Waya (Nanih Waiya), meaning "bending" or "leaning mountain," was originally the name of a sacred Choctaw mound in Winston County, Mississippi. According to a tribal origin myth the Choctaw, or "red people," emerged from beneath the knoll.
