You walk down a path from the driveway to a unique, peaceful retreat on our 13 acres of woods along the Damariscotta River into a world all your own. We call it Camp Big Ma. In addition to the lower cabins and upper cabin we have a small bunkhouse with 2 sets of bunk beds and its own bathroom & compost toilet. This is a perfect family getaway or retreat where you can spread out, swim in the river at high tide and in the pool whenever, hike around the woods and even to town or just read on the relaxing river deck. There are hiking trails galore, closest one being Dodge Point (2 miles away) that is wonderful and is dog friendly. Pemoquid Point lighthouse is a great place to view the ocean and climb on the rocks. In Damariscotta, which you can see easily from the cabins, there are a handful of good restaurants, quaint shops, the Maine Coast Bookstore, a library, the Lincoln Theater (HD broadcasts, movies and occasional plays), a YMCA, a lovely harbor and more. We are an hour north of Portland, 20 minutes from Boothbay Harbor and 40 minutes south of Camden. A perfect spot! The dock and pool are common areas, so occasionally, my wife and I (and visiting family members) will use the pool and dock, but will not get in your way.

About Bill Vaughan
We are from Virginia Beach and started coming to Maine in 1976, when we were married. My wife's grand father had a house in Yarmouth, ME and we stayed there a few summers. As our kids, and their first cousins got older, we hunted for rentals on the rivers. We found this place in 1988 and loved it. We named it 'Camp Big MA' for my mother-in-law, who would bring her grand kids up here from Virginia for their summer 'camp' experience. My wife and I (along with many in-laws) rented the cabins for 9 summers before we bought it, as we couldn't let it go when it came on the market. We then purchased the adjacent 10 acres in 2002 and built a house on it in 2011. We live here year round now and love our location. It/s very private yet only 1 and half miles from Damariscotta, a quaint year round harbor town, with many attractions.

Why Bill Vaughan chose Newcastle
Because it's gently rustic, on the beautiful Damariscotta River, has a pool and room for an extended family and private, yet close to town.
What makes this Cabin unique
Rented as one unit the cabins afford room to spread out. Also, there's the great 60 ft. long river deck, the kayaks, the river, the pool, the real log cabin living room, the fireplace, …….. and on and on!
