About this property

You cannot get closer to the lake than this cozy and chic Redstone Lake cottage!

Ceud mìle fàilte ~ Scottish Gaelic for ‘A hundred thousand welcomes’ to the Tartan Tardis, a newly-built, sleek, contemporary ‘wee’ 800sq ft cottage residing in an enviable and unheard of shore’s edge location in Oshawa Bay, Redstone Lake.

A romantic and luxurious retreat, the cottage is ideally suited for a couple however with 2 bedrooms and 3 beds, more can be accommodated. Guests over 16 years old are welcome with a maximum of 4 people. An adult over the age of 35 must be a registered guest during the entire stay. No pets of any kind are permitted. No parties. There is parking for two vehicles.

Situated in a quiet enclave of Redstone Lake’s original cottages dating back to the early 1940s, the Tartan Tardis was originally an early 1900s logging office. Given the proximity to the shore’s edge, the cottage was required to be rebuilt on the original building’s footprint. But, it is deceivingly larger than it looks thanks to 10’ ceilings, floor to ceiling windows framing those amazing views and a cleverly thought out light and airy floorplan. While modern, the cottage incorporates many historical elements and Scottish touches that celebrate the owner’s roots. It is a very unique property!

The cottage is well-equipped with everything you could need for a relaxing and fun-filled memorable vacation. Guests will find basics such as dish soap, cooking oil, spices and condiments are provided for your stay. The kitchen is completely stocked with all your cooking needs including a crockpot, blender and a Nespresso Vertuo machine with a milk frother. A few sleeves of coffee will be provided. Luxurious bed linens and bathing towels will be provided as well as soaps, shampoo, etc. Please bring your own beach towels.

There are many outdoor seating areas including an upper deck with a sunshade umbrella, lounge chairs and Adirondack chairs, and a lower deck with a Kamado Joe charcoal grill and picnic table. There is also a cozy and private seating area by the shore with a chimenea for evening fires (observing local fire bans/restrictions). Some firewood will be provided. Guests also have full use of the large dock with pergola for sunshade and are invited to use the paddle boards and kayaks. Life jackets and safety kits are provided.

Redstone Lake is known as the ‘jewel of the Haliburton Highlands’. It is a very clean weed-free lake that makes swimming an absolute pleasure to enjoy. You will feel enlivened and refreshed after a dip in this lake.

Water comes directly from the lake and goes through an extensive UV filtration system. Owners test the water regularly with the municipality and is safe to drink. Due to the close proximity to the lake, the gray and black water is pumped to a holding tank. Guests are asked to be mindful of water usage (no running taps unnecessarily) so that the tank does not fill up during your stay. It will be empty upon your arrival.

Outdoor security cameras are on the property. The cottage is the owner’s pride and joy and is used by the family most of the year. Rentals are available for 7 night stays only for a limited number of weeks in the summer. The owner’s want to share their special place with others who will treat it respectfully and are available to answer any questions at any time to help ensure a wonderful stay.

There will be a Landfill pass available to use and is located just in West Guilford. Guests are asked to kindly leave with their garbage and recycling.

Hi there! Thanks for checking out our 'wee' piece of paradise! Our family has had a cottage on Redstone Lake for over 80 years and we made every effort to pay tribute to my husband's special grandfather aka 'Scotty' by incorporating many Scottish elements into the cottage. We have two adult sons who are the 5th generation in our family to enjoy the beautiful Redstone Lake. It is our hope that you will create special memories here too!

What makes this property unique

The cottage is literally on the lake with views from every angle. While modern and new, there is much character throughout from 100 year old reclaimed barnboard ceiling to Old World wrought iron hinges and handles and many Scottish touches.
