The Space:
Taratahi Escape is located on the outskirts of paddocks, providing stunning views of the rolling hills and beautiful gardens. It is only an hour's drive from Wellington, the capital city. The region is famous for its hidden bars, lively café culture, and highly-rated restaurants.
The property is situated in the best tiny homes in Clareville near Kaitoke Regional Park, Maidstone Park, and Masterton, which is the largest town in the Wairarapa region. The 155 square-feet tiny house has easy access to water, split air conditioning, a kitchenette, cooking equipment, and excellent bathroom facilities including an eco-friendly cassette toilet, hand basin, and gas-heated showers.

IMPORTANT NOTE: Keep in mind that we are a working farm with agricultural and livestock noise on the property. It's also close to the main road, so you may hear some road noise during your stay, but rest assured most of the noise is muffled by vegetation.
Guest Access:
Guests will have access to the tiny house and its surroundings, including the paddocks and pond area, after a quick safety briefing from the land host.
However, guests should exercise caution when entering farm paddocks as there is no unsupervised access on the property. If you're interested in visiting, please contact your land host 24 hrs in advance to make the necessary arrangements.
The Neighborhood:
Taratahi Escape is situated in Clareville, on the outskirts of Carterton township. It is one of the best tiny homes, offering easy access to local restaurants, supermarkets, shops, and the Carterton Event Centre.
We are just an hour's drive from Wellington, this includes Masterton, Greyton, and Martinborough townships which are all within an 11- 23 min drive of the property.
Our local recommendations:
- Carter's Reserve has the best beers, or stop by for a meal at the Historic Gladstone Inn.
- Kaitoke Regional Park is a popular hiking trail and filming location of Rivendell in Lord of the Rings.
- Fensham Reserve is a popular bushwalking site with well-maintained trails such as boardwalks, and gravel walkways.
- Harvest Festival, Wings Over Wairarapa, and Balloon Festival are just a few activities that both locals and tourists enjoy.
- Lavender Abbey is a family-owned business that produces local products like essential oil, hand cream, lotion, and more.
- Carterton Golf Club is one of the best leisure outdoor activities in the area, providing a fun yet stimulating golfing experience.
- Maidstone Park has plenty of fun activities for everyone. It offers the Maidstone Max Adventure Playground, a thrilling downhill mountain bike track, bush trails, a skate park, and more.
Getting Around:
By car:
- 20 min drive from Masterton
- 1 1/4 hrs, 84 km drive from Wellington
- 11 min, 9 km or 15 km drive from Greytown
- 2 min, 1km drive to the nearest town, Carterton
By public transport:
- Trains run 5 times a day from Wellington, the station is 4 mins from "Taratahi Escape" and we can collect you from the station.

- There are also public buses to Masterton and Greytown on a rural bus timetable. Most people will have to get around by car to local attractions or you can walk to Carterton in 15 mins.
Other Things to Note:
- No smoking allowed on the property
- No unregistered guests or visitors are allowed
- Breakfast is available at an extra cost and upon prior request
- Please do not enter farm paddocks without prior permission
- Please note that we have pets and farm animals on the property
- We would like to advise guests that longer stays or later check-outs will incur an additional charge.
- Firewood cost is $25 per load - includes newspaper to get it started, fire starters so it's easier to get started, kindling & about 7kg of wood. All at a size that requires no chopping by guests!
Important note:
- Due to the nature of the property, abundant wildlife may be present on the property.
- Keep in mind that BBQ grills and outdoor fire pits are not available during a total fire ban
- In order to maintain the cleanliness and functionality of our compost toilets a minimum additional cleaning fee is applied for stays of 5 nights or more. We appreciate your cooperation in ensuring a hygienic experience during your stay.
