Prvt cottage + cabin + pool on quarter acre section (wood burner, pet friendly)
Cosy 1 bed cottage (34sqm) with kitchenette and studio wood burner. Separate cabin (10sqm) with king single bunks. Can sleep up to 5 including separate cabin. Bonus is the pool heated by water reticulating off roof (not useable in winter). Gorgeous wisteria covered pergola over outdoor seating with BBQ. Full use of quarter acre section and pet friendly. Back section so private. Carport. Fruit trees. Dogs, cats and children welcome (please don't leave dogs alone). May be suitable for long stay, eg if you are doing renovations on your own place - please contact to discuss. Walking distance to town (20 mins) or 5 mins from start of Greytown Rail Trail (beautiful 10km walk/cycle return to Woodside station). Washer-dryer, microwave, small fridge and dual hob. No oven (small air fryer). Commando style EV plug (extra fee) BYO cable. Please read list of amenities carefully to make sure it meets your needs. Although cottage+cabin can sleep 5 it is small (34 SQM cottage + 10 SQM cabin) so may feel cramped for a large group of adults, particularly in winter. It is primarily our family weekend escape from Wellington so please forgive the somewhat mismatched nature of the furnishings. Amazing sunsets and star gazing. Please bring your own linen or sleeping bags, and towels. I live in Wellington so providing linen is tricky. If this is too hard for you let me know and we may be able to sort something out for an extra charge.

My husband and I and our Springer Spaniel stayed here for a much needed long weekend and had a fabulous time! Fantastic place to stay, great location and Greytown is such a dog friendly place we couldn’t have asked for more! Would definitely stay here again. Very comfortable, great sized garden and lived using the pool on the hot days!
Fantastic weekend away property. Fully fenced which was excellent for our dog. We had everything we needed and the pool was even warm enough for us to swim each day.Highly recommend it.
Enjoyed our short stay, the fire meant the cottage was so cozy. Has everything you need for a comfortable stay.

Great little cottage and grounds. Good location. Just a couple of things that could improve...there was no coffee, no body wash and no dry firewood other than a few logs in the basket. Our dog enjoyed the big grassy section!
Close to Clareville Cafe for lunch, Masterton Saturday market, Wairarapa south coast adventures & Greytown shopping (including top Butcher). And home base citrus trees. Teenagers (& Adults) loved the pool
Overall ticks all the right boxes.Just one thing, the lawns could have been mown. Our shoes got very wet going to and from the car.

Thanks for your review! Apologies re the grass. The mowing is done regularly by a local company. They have struggled a bit this year with all the wet weather.

Good fit for 5 of us & a dog. Pool an extra treat after Mt Bruce & Cape Pallliser day trips
We had the best time ever. The pool was a godsend in the heat wave and the kids had a blast. We were sad to depart. The fresh plums were also divine! Definitely coming back.

So glad to hear you loved our wee cottage and the pool! Soooo many plums this year 😊
Wonderful for a short summer stay. Our 6 year old loved the pool as did we on the 29 degree and very humid day - also appreciated the fans! We didn’t realise there was no linen or towels provided but the host did inform us of this before we arrived so we were able to arrange some from friends…visiting from Melbourne and loved our short stay.
Loved this little cottage! Great feel inside - plenty of character, warm and snuggly. Appreciated there being a couple of board games too as we'd forgotten to bring any. Perfect space for the dog outside - back section, well fenced and lots of space. Loved seeing the productive trees and plants all around too.
Big thank you.

Thanks for staying Fiona and so glad you enjoyed the cottage and section. The fruit trees are my greatest joy - perhaps only second to the pool on a very hot Wairarapa summer’s day! I hope you will return.
A relaxing vibe. It was hot so a lot of time was spent in the pool. The kids were easy to watch, and didn’t want to go anywhere else. The dog loved it. The supermarket was close and the BBQ was used each night. The wisteria provided shade and the stars were glorious. 5/5 from us. Thanks for sharing your magical place - much appreciated
A great location. Tidy property. Would have been nice to have some kindling to get fire started easily. Was cosy once we had it going. Was a bit muddy - some pavers between the house and cabin would be good. Thanks
The location is great and it is lovely to find a place that allows pets to stay. The fire was excellent and kept the cabin lovely and warm. Lovely pool but we didn't make use of it due to the weather.Unfortunately, this place was let down by the cleaning. It was OK, but needed a good vacuum and the bathroom bin had not been emptied. There were a few other smaller issues that were easily fixed.

Thanks for your review! I will bring these issues to the attention of my cleaner - my apologies it wasn't up to a satisfactory standard.
Was lovely. Took a while to find Humphries road . Not sign posted off main road. Service station on corner would have helped with street. Its a beautiful little cabin. Thanku so much
We stayed for 3 months while our own property was being renovated. It's down a right of way with a big garden (with lemon and mandarin trees) and is quiet and safe for children and pets. It is very cosy on cooler days with its log burner. We didn't get to use the pool, but it was serviced regularly while we were there, and the water was warming up nicely as we were leaving. Communication with our host was excellent. We loved this cute little place and highly recommend it.

Thanks for your review Helen and it was a pleasure to host you. Glad we could help you with place to live with your cats while your home was being renovated.
Everything was as advertised. The Bach is small, but our family of 5 managed just fine, the kids loved the bunk room, and being away from us.Downside was the way the place is set up with furniture. It would be fantastic if the single bed in the main cabin was actually a sofa bed, as it's not really that comfortable to sit on in the evenings. The kitchen has a weird old dresser as a pantry, shelves would be better, and the huge dresser in the bedroom is just to big, a low boy would be an improvement. But also, I'm being quite picky, and would definitely stay there again
Fabulous and cute cottage tucked down a right of way in beautiful Greytown. The bed was soooo comfy and I enjoyed the little log burner on the cold nights. I didn't partake of the pool - a bit chilly in mid winter but I could imagine the outdoor being amazing in summer. Everything you need and more. I loved the rustic decor. 15 minutes walk into the Winter Festival. Perfect quiet spot. I will definitely be back if I'm in the area.

Thank you so much for your review and kind words. I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. And yes the pool is definitely a summer thing when it is heated by water circulating through panels on the roof.
Upon arrival the property was tidy. The cabin was very cluttered and wasn’t inviting. The cottage is very well equipped although very cluttered. The main bedroom was very cramped with a large dresser taking up the space where suitcases could have been placed. There was random food left in the fridge. The bonus was the fireplace. Fire starters were available but no kindling. It took a bit to get the fire started but it worked well. Easy walk into the township. Many great places to eat. The food we all had was incredible. We ate at The white swan twice.
I’d imagine in summer the pool area would be great.
I’d rate the property suitable for couples, more so than families.

Hi Carolyn thanks for your honest feedback. The cottage is as per the photos. It is quite small as you say - only 34 SQM plus 10SQM cabin - we think it is perfectly formed for a weekend getaway. Our family uses it regularly and the furniture in it suits our needs. As you say probably not the best choice for 4-5 adults and particularly not in winter when you want to be indoors mostly. In summer we are outdoors more than we are indoors.
You are right there is not room for bulky suitaceses but plenty of room for smaller overnight bags and the large scotch chest means clothes can easily put away. Almost everyone has a car with them.
I'm glad you enjoyed your time in Greytown and thanks for your four star rating despite your first impressions!
Great spot, loved the pool and bonus been able to take the dog

About the host
Hosted by Lime1969
I live in Wellington. We love Wellington but we love the weather in the Wairarapa! For many years the cottage was only used by us and friends and family - but we felt it was a great shame it was not used more of the year hence listing it for others to enjoy.
Why they chose this property
Our family have enjoyed the Wairarapa for generations - the warm summers, amazing light, beautiful scenery and loads of things to do. Greytown in particular is a very special little town with its boutique shops, cafes. We also love cycling around town, and down the rail trail and over to the river.
What makes this property unique
We built this cottage for ourselves. It is small but perfectly formed for a weekend (or week!) away. A new cottage means it is cozy and warm, but with the charm of the old. The pool gives it an extra dimension in summer. The cottage is primarily set up to suit us and is furnished with a rather eclectic mix of furniture.
