Born and bred in the Adelaide Hills, I worked professionally as an Economist and Lawyer in Melbourne and Canberra for many years before coming home. Now i work in the Company Directing space and am loving this foray into short term rental management. I enjoy travelling and meeting new people so this is all right up my alley! I renovated Saplings lodge with trades and am a passionate landscape enthusiast who, guiltily, spends too much time at the State Flora Nursery! I have designed and planted Saplings Lodge myself because I am pained by the loss of habitats for our wildlife and this is my small contribution towards changing our approach to the environment. I live close by with my husband and 2 teenage girls attending a local school. For my sins I am now designing and constructing a new and much larger garden. We love the outdoors, especially in winter when you really know you're alive.
Why they chose this property
Saplings Lodge is nestled in a quiet hills area dotted with remnant forest River Red Gums. Its an easy stroll along Forest Avenue trail to bustling Joan's pantry for a splendid brekky with the kids followed by a kick of the footy at Hawthorndene Oval.
Hikers will rejoice at being on the Summit to Sea trail, bikers at easy access to trails at Belair National Park and cyclists at the picturesque routes of the Adelaide Hills renowned by being on the Tour Down Under route.
South Australians like me take food and wine very seriously! Wine afficionado's will be spoilt with short drives to a host of quality Adelaide Hills wineries and to Australia's other premier wine regions; McLaren Vale, Clare Valley and Eden Valley, the Barossa and Langhorne Creek.
A short drive further into the hills takes you to Cleland National Park where you can cuddle a koala, to the Stirling Laneway Festival for handmade goodies and to a plethora of beautiful country style pubs with delicious food and charming South Australian hospitality.
Glenalta has fantastic access to the city and surrounds. Guests will love the 2 min walk to the bus stop and close location of the Glenalta train station that takes you into the city and back. Long term guests will appreciate the sub 10 minute drive to Flinders University, Flinders Private Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre. SA's stunning beaches- Seacliff, Brighton and Glenelg, are an easy drive and Westfield Marion shopping centre event cinemas are but a hop, skip and a jump.

What makes this property unique
We love our recently ‘re-wilded’ garden that provides food and accommodation for local wildlife, even koalas seeking a snoozy spot! Planted with some of Australia's most iconic trees, the garden boasts five Sapling Gums that are the property's namesake.
The wildlife is prolific in this part of the world. Give our local birds a scoop of mix into the feeder and they will entertain you with much squabbling and washing in the bird bath. A specially designed Koala fence at the side encourages furry visits from you know who and the odd Blue Tongue and Stumpy tail Lizards have also been known to appear.
We love our back garden which is really big by Adelaide Hills standards, full of bird attracting native and exotic tree species. Young fruit trees dotted throughout the property are already producing fruit with a bounty of figs, nectarines, lemons, macadamia nuts and apricots on the way.
We love that this is a garden where kids can learn about how things grow through nature play. And the huge and lush kidney shaped lawn cries out for fun, games a relax in the sun or just rolls down it! Just devine- and given all the features the house alone has to offer, when combined with room to breathe, now you have the ultimate escape!
