The train station is nearby and travelling via the train is a popular way to reach Murrurundi. It is advisable to book your train ticket in advance. From Sydney, it takes 4 hours and 35 minutes and costs between $40-$60. Guest must refrain from smoking indoors. You have access to the entire cottage and back yard has an outside table and seating. The key is for the side door and there is only two keys for the side and back door as all the doors can be locked and opened from inside. We do have electric blankets for the two main bedrooms and reverse cycle heating, electric radiators to keep you warm in winter. ACTIVITIES APLENTY. The GOLF COURSE is nearby and so is the beautiful Paradise Park - the gateway to plenty of walks. Here you can enjoy the Eye of the Needle Walk, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. Plenty of historic places to visit including bushranger Pioneer Cottage, the nearby gin distillery and for art lovers, visit Michael Reid's famous Art Gallery where you can enjoy fine food and coffee. The local pool opens from October to the the end of February and is fabulous. It costs $5 for adults. Opening hours in Summer are 12 noon to 7pm seven days a week. Information pack available in folders in the kitchen. Try the exceptional local pubs such as the White Hart Hotel, Royal Hotel Pub & Kitchen & The Railway Hotel. Murrurundi's rich cultural heritage, antique shops, stunning natural beauty and diverse culinary scene has something for everyone.

About the host
Hosted by Robyn Foyster

I grew up in the country and live in Sydney. Murrurundi was a town I discovered through friends who moved there. I kept an eye on the market and bought a run down old cottage and then lovingly restored it. I now visit myself when it is not being rented to holiday makers and I love sharing it with people visiting this beautiful part of NSW. I am totally new at being a host and always trying to improve the stay of my guests so open to suggestions.
Why they chose this property
Situated in the thoroughbred, vineyard and coal-belt of the Upper Hunter Valley, in the small but delightful town of Murrurundi.
Michael Reid's art gallery champions contemporary Australian artists with multiple monthly exhibitions.
Close to Paradise Park and numerous walking trails. I love walking to the Park which is incredibly close and there are stunning walks from there to the Eye of the Needle.
My favourite time is watching the skies change colour at dusk and dawn from the front verandah. There are often native birds keeping my attention too.
Local swimming pool is 25 metres. Nearby tennis courts, cafes, local pubs, antique shops, and the Magpie Gin Distillery and Graze's award-winning steak restaurant in Willow Tree is 15 minute's drive.
We do have trains but they don't bother me. In fact, I recommend travelling up by train. I find the place extremely relaxing. There is nothing quite like being in the country to destress and be at one with nature. My hope is guests make this their home away from home as it is for me.

What makes this property unique
The cottage is freshly decorated and having grown up on a horse stud, I have a lot of horse memorabilia and large oil paintings. I have also bought antiques such as a huge antique Venetian mirror which hangs above the fireplace. The kitchen and bathroom are totally new with the latest fittings and it is clean and tidy and I like to think, stylishly decorated. The sofa is also new and comfy. The home is a very restful place. I have also started planting trees in the back garden which has a view onto the mountains, much like the front verandah. I love the way the light changes during the day. You can enjoy the most stunning sunsets.
