Retreat yourself to the perfect getaway in beautiful Port Franks!
This spacious three bedroom (sleeps 10), two bathroom, newly furnished and decorated two-story cottage is tucked away in a large picturesque wooden lot that offers privacy, quiet, and endless spaces to relax and enjoy nature, just a short ten minute stroll from the beach!
Spend your days at the private deeded Port Franks beach (less than a ten minute stroll) enjoying Lake Huron, hike or bike the trails, view wildlife at the wetlands, or relax with a good book while the kids play yard games. For a change of pace, drive to the pinery (10 minutes), Grand Bend (15 minutes), or enjoy the many local golf courses (10-20 minutes). Don’t forget to catch the beautiful sunsets this area is famous for from one of the property’s balconies with a glass of wine, then enjoy smores by the fire pit before you retire to your fun nature-themed rooms.
The main floor is a cozy retreat for quality family or friend time. Kick back and watch Netflix or cable on the oversized couch (which converts into an extra-large sleeping area) or snuggle by the wood burning fireplace while the kids play board games in the game table nook. The kids will love having the ultimate sleepover with siblings, cousins or friends in the Treehouse room, which offers a bunk bed with trundle (twin XL (2) over full) and single pilot bed. The main bathroom includes a shower and ample storage, and the laundry room leads out to a secondary entrance, which is ideal for washing those sandy bathing suits after long days at the beach.
The second floor feels more like a parents’ sanctuary with sky lights and oversized windows offering natural light and views that bring nature inside. The sitting room provides a stunning autumn forest feature wall mural and six bay windows. The large kitchen and dining area is ideal for family gatherings or playing board games in the evening without waking the kids on the level below. The second floor full bathroom includes a shower and bath as well as a ton of closet space for guests. Choose from the wetland or beach themed second-floor bedrooms to feel immersed in local naturescapes, both include large closets, and new furniture. Enjoy a slow morning coffee (or mimosa, we won’t judge) before your day at the beach from the balcony off the beach room (which has a glider), sitting room, back deck or the hanging swing chairs at the front of the house.

My group stayed here for the long weekend, and Ashley and Shawn made sure that we had the best weekend possible from quick communication, a smooth check-in process, and setting us up with everything we needed.
We were pleasantly surprised by how much space there was, the cleanliness, and location. We especially loved the welcome basket which included a s’mores kit! It’s the little things that made our stay extra special. Thanks Shawn and Ashley for your excellent hospitality!

Shawn's Rental Cottage Review in Port Franks!
My friends and I from Toronto found Shawn's cottage in Port Franks. Everything had gone well until the last night when Shawn decided to call us about a noise complaint and a fire pit, which we had under control. Shawn was very rude, disrespectful and talked down to us in a lecturing tone. We had been respectful up until that point but Shawn threatened us with police anyway, if we didn't comply with his demands which we had no problem doing. He made us feel unwelcomed and unsafe. Shawn made comments about how he took a chance on us and how we didn't know what we were doing when we are 4 responsible adults who have been around the whole country, this wasn't our first rodeo in a rental spot. Shawn could have text us but instead chose this route in dealing with paying customers treating us like kids. He did not care to listen at all saying we weren't doing things quick enough. Shawn ruined the last night of our trip with his behavior. In our opinion, Shawn's reaction was over the top and uncalled for. We had considered returning to this location but after dealing with this hostile host, no way. He was not pleasant to deal with. He should learn to speak to people and deal with them in a proper manner if he is to stay in business. Shawn did not bother to bid us farewell nor did he mention the 2 hour cleanup job we did. He barely text us at all actually. No other previous host has treated us this poorly. Sadly, we cannot recommend this place to anyone as a result of rude Shawn.

We value hospitality and this is why all of our other reviews on this platform and air bnb have received 5 stars. This review is an outlier because the guest who wrote it is retaliating for an honest review that we provided. We knew it was a risk to leave such a review, but in this case, we felt it was important to ensure other renters are informed.
We received a noise complaint from a by-law officer at 12:45am about very loud music coming from our property. We have outdoor cameras, which are disclosed to guests, and checked upon receiving the complaint. We could see that this guest and his friends were blaring music from a karaoke speaker outside and had a fire that was out of control. We called to remind him of the house rules and local by-law and to ask him to please immediately turn off the music and put out a fire. He apologized and agreed. However, we could plainly see that they sat right back down and continued to blare music and drink by the fire. We did call them back and tell them to immediately turn off the music as it is time sensitive (we have 30 minutes to respond). At that point, he lied and said they had turned it off and the fire was being put out. We explained that we could see him and that there is a by-law in effect that is enforced by a local by-law officer or local police officer coming out to shut the party down when noise complaints are not addressed within 30 minutes. The guest thought we were threatening to send someone out, and did not seem to understand this is the area's protocol. We were always professional with him but we did have to enforce our house rules which are reasonable. This information about the noise by-law is included in our advertisement and our guest book. It is also common courtesy to our neighbours.

Why they chose this property
Port Franks is a gorgeous family friendly beach community on Lake Huron, boasting the most beautiful sunsets in Southwestern Ontario. It offers a quiet and private retreat from the hustle and bustle but is still a short drive from the shops and restaurants in Grand Bend without the noise and crowd, making it the perfect spot for a family holiday.
What makes this property unique
Tucked away in a private wooded lot across from a scenic wetland, and just a ten minute walk from the private deeded beach, this cottage is a cabin in the woods meets beach house with all of the amenities of a home. Compared to many of the other cottages in the area, we have a large lot with grassy areas for yard games, a large paved area for kids to draw with sidewalk chalk and ride scooters and bikes and tons of areas to lounge in nature. The cottage has been updated with modern furnishings and stunning wallpaper murals designed to resemble local naturescapes.
