This is a unique setting with two rooms upstairs with the main kitchen and the bedroom downstairs with a mini-kitchen. It is located a few blocks up the hill from Helen’s store, so it was easy to get supplies. Even though it is a bit off of the main roads, the tours we booked had no problem picking us up at our driveway. If you don’t mind a hike, the center of town is walkable from villa maya. Great experience for our family!
Overall, we enjoyed Belize and had a solid stay here, but there are trade offs to be aware of. The location is excellent, very close to San Ignacio and many of the tourist sites. We had a rental car; the walk from town is uphill the entire way and not recommended. The neighborhood seemed safe, there was a school and other nice houses, but the house directly across the street was rather run down and the occupants were in and out all day, running a business delivering bags of ice out of the ground floor. Their two dogs were not aggressive - they just watched me lock the gate - but they did bark much of the night. Unless you live in a noisy, urban area, do not expect to get a good nights sleep here. The windows are the louvered/slat style and did not block out the barking dogs, or constant motorcycle and ATV traffic. Also be aware that the pictures are quite favorable, and must have been taken years ago, with special lighting. In actuality, the house was not as bright and clean as the pictures suggest. Something else to be aware of is that there are a ton of locks and layers of security. The pro was that we felt very safe with a padlocked driveway gate, a padlocked metal cage around the stairs, and a lock and deadbolt combo on every door. Just be aware, if you rent both units you’ll be managing something like six different keys. Overall, I’d say this is a decent choice if you want to stay in a local home, but we regretted not staying at one of the lodges.

Thank you for sharing your feedback. We’re glad you enjoyed Belize and found the location convenient for exploring San Ignacio and nearby attractions. While the uphill walk, neighboring business, and street noise are outside our control, the neighborhood is generally quiet, and the louvered windows are accurately described in the listing. We appreciate your notes on brightness and cleanliness; the owner plans to refresh the paint to improve the home’s appearance. The multiple keys and padlocks are provided for guest safety. Your comments help us improve future stays, and we hope you’ll consider returning to enjoy Belize again.

Okay not great
good location to town, but the neighborhood was really noisy at nights (the dogs barking woke us up every night several times) and the windows are not made to keep any sound out. The refrigerator was broke for our entire 5 night stay. We had the use of the dorm size fridge from the lower level but that was not sufficient for a family of 6 for 5 nights, in particular over Christmas when markets were closed for 2 days in a row.
We requested assistance on use of the safe and never heard back from the manager for this request, although the first night she did bring extra pillows very quickly.

Villa Maya
Large spacious home. Not as well stocked with cook ware as it could be.
Very rough road leading to home could be harmful to rental car. Shopping and town within walking distance however walk back is all up hill.
Directions to home could be updated as I think the directions we were given were from the old bridge not the new one. It would also be easier to turn left before Helenas Super Market rather than go to the gas station as instructed.
Note there is no dishwasher in the home even though the info supplied stated that there was. we had enough family members to rotate through that chore so no real problem.
A good time was had by all. Everyone we met were extremely friendly and helpful.

Beautiful Home
The house is beautiful with good air conditioning and appliances. It is well located if you have a car (although I think San Ignacio would be difficult to explore well without your own vehicle). This is probably one of the nicest places I have stayed in through VRBO.
Like other reviewers said, it is difficult to find the house - Google maps does pull it up correctly, but you have to go down some rough dirt roads that don't really seem like actual roads. I would highly suggest setting it up so that they can meet you there when you arrive - I think we would have missed the property if she hadn't flagged us down!

Beautiful Home
This is a gorgeous home - the wood furnishings and accents, and the murals all came together for a lovely place to stay. The air conditioning worked very well, as did the television and kitchen appliances. This property is well located for easy access to all of San Ignacio; however, if you didn't have a car it may be difficult to access. I think in general San Ignacio is made much more convenient by renting a car. It is difficult to find, so if you can arrange for them to meet you there when you arrive that can be very helpful (we probably wouldn't have found it if she hadn't flagged us down). Would definitely recommend this property and would go back if I ever found myself in San Ignacio again!

Unique Comfortable House!
This house worked out great for a family gathering of five adults! The only way to locate it is with GPS coordinates, which you can do on Google maps. It is the middle of a neighborhood and felt very safe. It is not too far from town, but we were very glad that we had a car. It is a spacious home with a washer and dryer. The management team is very responsive. We did have the water go off for a few hours. We heard that the water and electricity frequently go off for a few hours in this area until they can be repaired by the utility company.

Great house for a family or group
We were very happy with the house...very spacious and comfortable, nothing lacking. More than enough room for our family group of five. We cooked most dinners in, explored during the day, and this was a perfect home base for our time in San Ignacio. The house is on a large, fenced lot lot with nice landscaping, on the outskirts of SI. Nice quiet neighborhood, except on New Years Eve!

San Ignacio Holiday Stay
This is a nice place with a good security fence and locking gate in what appears to be a nice neighborhood. If you rent both the upper and lower levels, you have three bedrooms and baths. The veranda is very nice with views of the city. The one neighbor does like to play the music early in the morning - suspecting while getting ready for work - didn't bother us too much. There are no items left from previous visitors so plan on bringing everything you need from coffee and filters to spices for cooking.

Really nice!
This place is nice and comfortable. We had the whole house. I'd probably give the downstairs four stars since the people who stayed in that room said the shower leaked a little, but the upstairs is so nice and didn't have that issue. Many lights had burned out, so it was kind of dark, but that's not a permanent problem that can't be fixed. The manager was very helpful and would have taken care of that if we had called him. They could also send better driving directions when they send the check in information. The beds were comfortable. The air conditioning works well. The laundry is great to have on site.

Nice house good location
Nice house really big, great for our family of 6. Sheldon was awesome and arranged a baby bed for our little one. Neighbors woke us up at 6 am with loud music but was otherwise great! It is difficult to find the first time and all the door locks were a little cumbersome.

Very clean and comfortable home.
I love this home. Communication with the property manager was great. He made sure that every information I would need to find the address right up to explaining everything about the house was available. I used google maps to find my way to the home even though he had offer to provide help if I needed it. Upon arrival, I was able to enter the home from the instructions he provided. Everything was pretty straight forward. The house was clean and fully functional. All linens were provided even extra pillows. I stayed four days and four nights with 3 kids and 2 adults and my entire family loved it. The only reason I didn't give a 5 start really doesn't have anything to do with the house itself. It's just the road leading to the house which was odd. An entrance on the side fence off the main street would be more convenient.

Large home, comfortable and clean. The kitchen was very sparsely equipped.
Bowls, cutting boards, cheese grater, knives. Be sure to check whether it's your day to haul the 55 gallon metal drum outside the locked gate to be picked up

Large house in San Ignacio
Booked without knowing if it would be a good call as no reviews had been posted. Great find. The house was huge and very clean. We had clean linen and towels and there was also a washer and dryer we were able to use after arriving from a day caving at ATM cave. Mr. Arnold was very helpful and answered our calls promptly when arriving at San Ignacio and sent Ms. Garcia to take us to the house when we got lost. Huge kitchen as well w/ all necessary pots/pans and utensils as well as microwave. Rooms also were air conditioned. All in all, it was great to have found this place and made our vacation excellent. Thank you!
