Self-contained guest house on shared property with private backyard in a bush setting. Enjoy our quirky and wild surrounds, a dip in the river below, the frogs and bird song and the whisper of the creek - maybe you'll even spot some glow worms on the track down the Rabbithole! Refurbished and warm, you'll love the arty, clean, semi-modern interior amongst the weedy wilderness - we're not pretentious! Bring your pooch!! - Access to our steam sauna (surcharge!) and private fire bath. The space Welcome to the Rabbithole! The latest addition to our range of accommodation options, now at an introductory price while we're adding the very last finishing touches and final trims.
You will love entering into the open plan kitchen/dining/lounge area with garden and bush views, kept cozy by a brand new heat pump and indoor fire place (fire wood not provided but can be purchased nearby if you're after some ambience). Cook dinner in the fully equipped kitchen or bring some goodies from the nearby restaurants - then kick back for an evening of movies, reading or board games.
Through the sliding doors you step onto your covered deck under the grape vine and into a private yard area that merges into the bush. Soak in the private outdoor bath while watching the goldfish play in the old pool - or string up the hammock on the back porch for a lazy afternoon. Follow the creek 'down the Rabbithole' through a natural bush area to find 'wonderland' in the area below - with fruit trees, paddocks, outdoor kitchen area and river access to a beautiful swimming hole (all shared)
There are 2 bedrooms: one with a queen bed featuring clean and arty decor, one with two singles perfect for the kids to share. For additional guests, there's a sofa bed in the lounge. Clean and comfy mattress and white sheets are important to me - and you as well, maybe.
Your bathroom facilities include a shower over bath (please note - no separate shower, so you need to step over the edge of the bath) and separate toilet.
The wooden flooring throughout and the heat pump with an air purifying setting may be helpful if you're suffering from allergies (please note we do allow pets, but clean thoroughly).
There's no TV but we have a screen with HDMI input, chromecast and DVD player, a selection of movies, internet access and a variety of board games, books and toys.
If you are looking for a remote work space, we can provide you with some comfortable office chairs to use at the table.
The guest house is situated on a 2 acre lifestyle property shared with the owners. There's a private outdoor gas-fired bath, a finnish steam sauna ($25 surcharge) and lots of land to explore. There's a quirky outdoor lounge and pizza oven on the section below and you'll have river access to a semi-private swimming hole with rocks to jump off (access via the neighbor's property on a shared path).
We have other listings on the property (a sleep out and a treehouse) so you may see other guests in the shared areas but get to enjoy your private back garden space and tub next to the old pool. Guest access There's parking right outside the door of the property. You come down a sloping, curved driveway and there's a three-point turning area at the bottom.
You can reach us by bus on the 110 line from Upper Hutt station with the bus stop a 15 min walk away. Other things to note Access to the house is down a sloping, curved driveway with a three-point turning area at the bottom.
The guest house is located next to the main house in which I live with my collies, teenage boys (one of them plays drums but practice is usually no more than once a week and no more than 15 mins... wish he'd take it more seriously!).
There are other guests around as well.
Please DO NOT BOOK if you don't like dogs, expect perfectly manicured lawns or park-like surrounds or if you are after complete seclusion and privacy.
However, if you love a bit of wilderness, friendly folk, border collies, cats, smoothies with dandelion or plantain and a bit of sauna indulgence here and there - you will fit right in!!!
Oh - and last not least: ask about my me-time retreat offers!! Whether you want to do some focused planning, need a mental / emotional re-set, work on your life or business goals or simply want to kick start your new health routine with a bit of 'make it stick' support - I'm there to support you.

This probably used to be a wonderful cottage in the bush, but is unfortunately now somewhat neglected. Could be great again with a thorough clean, a lick of paint, and functioning appliances. The beds are good and the location very convenient for upper hutt station/Wellington.
This place is soo beautiful, if you love the bush and river type scenery then you will love this place for sure even just to get out of the hussle and bussle of the cities. The accommodation itself is very nice and quite big perfect for families. Floor standing heatpump can heat the entire place up within 15 minutes, great ventilation, awesome place for dogs, it well and truly is a great experience and i recommend people to try it out. Lovely host family
Enjoy the theme! The place is basic but just what you need to have some quiet time and space away from the hustle & bustle! Could use some large couches for lounging on & a little tidy up in the porch area. Unfortunately there was too many wasps during the day for me to enjoy it to the fullest. The walk down to river is lovely, so we will be back in summer to enjoy swimming there and to stay again. Parking is sufficient but limited area to turn around.
We expected a lovely retreat in the bush but very disappointed to find the accommodation rundown and not clean. The host was elusive and the surroundings had items of old furniture left to rot outside and more junk. The outside bath was not usable. Definitely not worth the 500 we paid for the two nights.

Lovely host, accomodated us for arriving early. Comfortable beds, good facilities.Parking is very very tight as buildings are quite close together as we had a van.
