The 3 bedroom oceanfront Captain's House, offers unparalleled views across the bay of UNESCO World Heritage Site Lunenburg from most windows.
Meticulously restored with nautical accents, it's perfect for families, couples, or solo travelers seeking tranquility.
The house is cozy in the cooler months with a wood burning fireplace, or outside firepit, and for good measure, a heated mattress pad on the king bed in the main bedroom. With responsive forced air heating, the house takes a way the chill in a matter of minutes.
Upstairs the main, king bedroom, has a reading nook in the bump out, which is a feature of this type of house in the area, and it also provides some of the best views across to Lunenburg Harbour. At the top of the stairs to the right is a queen bed, where you can relax under the skylight and gaze at the myriad of stars on a clear night, and hear the waves lapping against the shore. Across the landing, the third bedroom has a twin bed with plenty of storage available for clothes.
There is a full bathroom upstairs with both tub and separate shower to ensure you can remove all of the sand, and a half bath downstairs for convenient use.
The den downstairs is a great spot to cozy in for a movie night, or for the children to watch TV. Off the den is the half bath, with toilet and sink, and washer and dryer for any laundry that might need a freshen up.
A fully equipped kitchen is complete with stove, dishwasher, fridge, microwave, air fryer, convection oven, slow cooker, and bakeware, rolling pin and blender if you fancy baking up a storm during your stay. With plenty of crockery, cutlery and utensils, you shouldn't be short of anything.
Once you have cooked or baked up your delights, sit around the dining table which offers stunning views across the bay to Garden Lots and Blue Rocks.
Just a short drive to Lunenburg's vibrant culture, restaurants and many events, it's also a short drive to experience Mahone Bay and see the three churches. If you just need to pop out for provisions, Rose Bay about 5kms away is stocked with essentials, including beer and wine, and also has a bistro offering meals during the day. Whilst you're out that way, you might want to visit Sand Dollar and/or Hirtles Beaches.
If you would rather stay home, you are steps away from the beach, a sea glass collectors paradise, and a great spot to watch the lobster boats coming and going during the season (November - May). Catch up with them at the wharf across the road to buy some fresh off the boat! The house is a sunshine haven in the Summer with front deck patio furniture, and plenty of comfortable seating inside from which to take in the views, whatever the weather!
Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place to stay, you won't want to leave!

We loved staying at the Captain’s House! Location is fantastic, house was very comfortable and it was only a short drive to Lunenburg. The Bluenose sailed by and the sunrises were spectacular!!!

So pleased to hear you enjoyed your stay. We have tried to limit modernization so as to maintain the integrity of the original build, and we’re happy to hear that it met your needs. Safe travels
Comfortable house in great location, immediately across the road from the beach and very quiet with only a few cars passing per day. Comfortable, clean, well-equipped. Had everything needed for a great stay and a wonderful holiday.
We had a wonderful week stay at the Captain's House! Check-in was seamless, the home exceeded our expectations. It was beautifully decorated and had everything we needed for our stay. The location was exactly what we were looking for, with a beach on our doorstep, Lunenburg and Mahone Bay a short drive away, and views of porpoises and seals swimming in the bay. Lots of memories made during our stay, we highly recommend Captain's House!
The location is absolutely spectacular. The house is beautiful and the decor was welcoming and warm. We had everything we needed for our stay and if we could have, we would have stayed longer. I would definitely stay here again if the opportunity ever arisesRachel is a great host and very responsive and helpful. Thank you for a lovely stay
Amazing spot, right on the water and close to everything we wanted to do on South Shore. Rachel was a great host and communicated quickly was a pleasure to rent from. We will be back.
This home was exactly what we were looking for: comfortable, clean, and incredibly well-located. It offered easy access to all the sights we wanted to explore in the Lunenburg area. We especially loved waking up to the sound of waves gently lapping the shore and watching the sunrise over the water. The house was thoughtfully stocked with everything we needed, and it felt warm and welcoming from the moment we arrived. We’d love to return on our next visit!
My family and I had a wonderful atay at Captain's House. The view of the bay right outside of the front of house was spectacular!! One morning we even saw a couple of whales breaching out there. Its a roomy place that held the 5 of us easily and a couple that came to visit us one day.Rachel was easy to deal with and responded to questions in a timely maner.I would definitely stay here again and recommend Captain's House to anyone coming to the area.

Lovely setting on the waterfront. A second full bathroom would have been ideal. Steep stairs to the upstairs bedroo.s should be noted in the property description.
Amazing sunsets, daily visits from a family of deer, bright spacious surroundings, The Captain’s House has it all. It’s clean, quiet and welcoming. Thoughtfully designed & intentionally comfortable. A rare gem!

Thank you so much for your glowing review Tracy, we enjoyed having you stay, and look forward to hosting you again soon!
We (my husband and I) were so pleased with this charming seaside cottage/house. It is decorated beautifully with a cute nautical theme and an amazingly comfortable bed. We slept like stones both nights. The owner was extremely responsive to our questions. The view….incredible. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Thank you for such a glowing review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay and hope you will stay with us again some time!
Seems unfair to reduce the rating based on known facts before booking, especially having permitted an early arrival
About the host
Hosted by Rachel White
Rachel is originally from England, and Mike is from Ontario. They have made the South Shore their home for 15 years and still appreciate everything it has to offer to this day. Rachel is a sea glass collector and stumbled across the beach a few years ago, it was meant to be that she would end up with a property in the area.
Why they chose this property
Feltzen South is a small but welcoming community. The people are very friendly and enjoy sharing this peace of paradise with visitors. We are pleased to be able to offer that opportunity for others to enjoy.
What makes this property unique
HIstorically being a Captain's House, complete with maps and log books of voyages, it truly is a piece of history for the area. With superb views across the wharf where in season (November to May) the lobster boats come and go, to the historic town of Lunenburg, famous for being the home of the schooner Bluenose II (which you can see on the Canadian dime), basking in the sunlight in all its glory.
