About this property
The Rimu Hut: Luxury riverside and off-grid
Our Rimu Hut is not your average off-grid cabin. Powered by a robust 4kW solar system, it offers all the comforts of home—no need to worry about conserving energy here. The eco-friendly hut is fully serviced with solar power, fresh rainwater, and luxurious amenities, including a fully equipped kitchen and bathroom.
Inside the Hut: The ground floor features a plush queen bed, while the mezzanine holds a cosy double bed. Both are dressed in soft, 1000-thread-count cotton sheets, with a variety of feather pillows for ultimate comfort. Extra blankets are available, perfect for chilly evenings or for snuggling up outside in the Adirondack chairs on the deck as you stargaze.
The bathroom is equipped with a full flushing toilet and a shower with great water pressure. You'll also find premium Ashley & Co. toiletries, including body wash, shampoo, and conditioner, leaving you refreshed and pampered.
Outdoor Bliss: One of the highlights is the wood-fired outdoor bath, an ideal spot to unwind under the stars in complete privacy.
While we encourage our guests to unplug and fully enjoy the serene surroundings, we understand the need to stay connected. For those looking to work remotely or just check in with the world, we provide Starlink satellite internet.
Family-Friendly with Caution: Families are welcome, but please note that due to the proximity to the river and the natural slopes around the property, we recommend keeping a close eye on little ones to ensure their safety. If you need a cot for an infant, just let us know, and we’ll set it up for you.
Access to the Hut: The Rimu Hut is located within the heart of Tamata Estate, accessible via a scenic farm track. We recommend a 4WD for the journey, but if you don’t have one, no worries—we provide one! Simply park your vehicle on the farm, and you can transfer to our farm car for a short 5-10 minute drive to the hut.
Once you arrive, you’ll find everything you need for a peaceful, off-grid stay, blending rustic charm with modern comforts.
Come and experience the natural beauty and calm of Tamata Estate—where your only task is to relax and reconnect.

About the host
Your host

We’re Andrew and Emily, and in 2022, we took the exciting step of sharing Tamata Estate—our slice of paradise—with others. Our mission is simple but meaningful: we want to create a space where people can truly disconnect from the noise and distractions of modern life so they can reconnect with themselves, loved ones, and the natural world around them. At Tamata, you’ll have the chance to reflect, recharge, and rediscover what’s truly important.
The name 'Tamata' comes from the Māori word meaning ‘to restore, refresh, and revitalise,’ as well as ‘to cultivate and work the soil.’ This meaning perfectly aligns with what we’re striving for here. Prior to our ownership, the farm was run organically, and we’ve continued that legacy by incorporating regenerative farming practices. We’re also passionate about restoring and expanding the native forest areas, working alongside local experts to use best practices and source native plants locally. This blend of sustainable farming and environmental stewardship is at the heart of what we do.
We’re currently working towards offering a range of luxe eco-accommodation options at Tamata Estate, designed for couples, families, creatives, writers, and friends looking to escape the hustle and bustle of city life. Whether you’re seeking solitude, a space to create, or simply want to bask in the beauty of nature, our property offers a unique environment that many wouldn’t otherwise have access to.
Our core values guide everything we do at Tamata Estate: restore the land, connect with nature, and disconnect from distraction. We’re excited to share this special place with you and hope it offers you the peace and inspiration that it has brought to us.
We can’t wait to welcome you to Tamata Estate!
Warmly,
Andrew & Emily

Why they chose this property
There is nothing more special than spending a day at the farm. Outside of the farm we have full-time office jobs, so when we get the chance to spend some uninterrupted time working on the farm we relish it. The birds, the quiet, the view! Its good for our souls.
What makes this property unique
