I liked the cabin at first, but we found a ant nest inside. When leaving, I told the manager and they said they were going to take care of it!

We loved our stay at Refugio del Volcan. We’ve been travelling through Central America for c 8 weeks and this accommodation stands out as one of the best. We had the apartment unit at the top, which has the most incredible views of the lake! The accommodation was very comfortable and quiet at night for a great night sleep. The kitchen was well equipped and nice hot shower in the bathroom. It’s a fair distance from San Pedro town centre but walkable, and very easy to get a Tuktuk to and from the town for circa 20Q. We couldn’t fault our stay and would totally recommend to other travellers!

Adorable, cozy stay.

Wonderful time in this cabin. It had amazing views and was quiet. The wifi was perfect for working and it was such a relaxing place to rest for a few days. It's about a 30 minute walk to town, but there are a few restaurants and shops along the way. The people are really friendly too.

Refugio del Volcan is situated right outside of the busy part of San Pedro, so it is super quiet and peaceful. It’s also gated making it feel very secure. We felt comfortable leaving our windows and front door open. Being outside of town means you must either walk or get a tuk tuk, so be prepared for that. The walk up to the villas is quite steep and a bit laborious. There is no lighting, so you’ll need a phone or headlamp to guide your way. The villa was plenty big and clean. We were disappointed there wasn’t a coffee maker for mornings - restaurants and cafes aren’t close. Overall, we happy with the stay.

The place was great value for the money. You are about a 10 minute ride from the city center finding a tuc tuc was pretty easy. We were charged anywhere from 10 to 25 Q per ride per person. It depended on the person and they can be negotiated with. The place is a steep walk up so just consider that if you have a lot of bags.

The place is in a safe area a little outside of the main town. The cabins are super cute and very clean. There is a main gate locks and it felt very secure. The walk up the path was tough with luggage ! This was my only complaint, but it was a great work out at the same time. Easy for backpackers but not a single lady with larger luggage.

The location is nice and quiet, with lovely restaurants around and beautiful views of the lake. The property itself is stunning, and is fantastic value for money. The walk into town is actually quite nice, or you can easily grab a tuc tuc if in a rush. My only suggestions for improvement are that it was quite difficult to contact the host using the number provided through Expedia; however, there was a number on the door when I arrived which proved much more fruitful. I realise they probably cost more, but blockout blinds are really necessary when the sun comes up at 5.30 and is right in your eyes through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Also, a lot of the older reviews mention someone named ‘James’, who was very helpful, but I never met him. I dealt with Ximena, who, after the aforementioned issues regarding contact, was also very helpful and responsive. She sent people promptly to fix the hot water and TV, and they were also very friendly. Overall, it was a great stay, and I would definitely recommend the property to anyone - possibly the best value for money I’ve had in a place.

Great location. Good views of Lake Atitlan from the porch. Very secure location. Hostess was most responsive. There is a fully equipped kitchen. Remember to bring basic ingredients and groceries. Most of it is available at small street side stores five minutes from the house. Tuc tucs are readily available to travel into town or to local restaurants. There’s an Italian bistro within five minutes but it was closed Monday and Tuesday. One issue is a steep walk and three flights of stairs to reach the apartment. If you’re carrying luggage it can be a little difficult. The caretaker was helpful and immediately assisted with the luggage. It’s best to have one person remain at the street level with the luggage while the other goes up to the entry door and rings the bell. The caretaker who opens yhe door will help with the luggage if requested. Overall a very positive experience. The shower was exceptional and there’s hot water. There’s a hammock on the porch and gardens to walk around.

Great property. Quiet, quaint, and peaceful. My only recommendations for improvement would be to do a contactless check-in like Casa Lobo. This would save time for both the management/owners and any potential guests. Then people can just check-in with a special pinpad or lockbox. Especially since the doorbell is not working anyways. The Treehouse could also probably use some new blankets, pillows, and sheets as even after going through the laundry it still smelled like the prior guest. A couple of ants and spiders as well, but that is to be expected in a treehouse. Overall an amazing experience. I would come here with my s/o again in a heartbeat if we are in San Pedro La Laguna again. Also very affordable and accommodating management/ownership. Comms were a bit delayed, but understandable. God bless you all.
