Derwent Hideaway is a fully furnished 1950's self contained villa near Hobart in southern Tasmania close to a shopping centre, the Glenorchy CBD, some of Tasmania’s largest employers and the best tourist attractions north of Hobart. Wireless broadband and computer facilities are provided and the property has three bedrooms, fully equipped kitchen and laundry, barbecue, towels, linen, TV, etc. It sleeps up to nine adults and all rooms have majestic views of the river and Mt Wellington. A portacot is also available on request. Derwent Hideaway is located a short drive or walk through Austin Park to a yacht club and public launching ramp and jetty. It has a large garden dominated by two historic oaks planted by Lady Franklin (the wife of an early Tasmanian governor) and a great outdoor area for relaxation.

Derwent Hideaway is rented short to medium term at competitive rates and is suitable for business people looking for somewhere to stay, a retreat or quiet place to work or holiday makers keen on sampling the many attractions that the Hobart region is famous for.

Property Description

Derwent Hideaway is self contained and fully furnished. The property sleeps up to 9 adults in 3 bedrooms. The configuration is a queen, double, two singles in the third bedroom. The two extra beds are a sofa bed and a day bed in the living room. A portacot is also available on request.

The property has a modern fully equipped kitchen with microwave, hotplates, stove and fridge. The laundry has a washing machine and dryer. On the balcony there is a gas barbecue and second dining table and chairs. All linen and crockery are provided and there is a TV, stereo etc. central heating or wood stove for warmth, a local call only telephone, a computer and wireless broadband internet for business and a great outdoor area for relaxation by the water.

Area and Activites

Derwent Hideaway is situated in the Hobart northern suburb of Austins Ferry located only a 5 minute drive from the city of Glenochy, 15 minute drive from the Hobart CBD and at the gateway to Tasmania's magnificent Derwent Valley with it's many attractions. Cadburys, Richmond, Salmon Ponds, Alpenrail and Bonorong Wildlife Park and Claremont Golf and Bowls Clubs are all close by.

The property is in a historic area surrounded by water or parkland on three sides and is located immediately north of the local Yacht club and launching ramp at the end of Austins Ferry Road which are both a short walk away and easily accessed by vehicle.

Derwent Hideaway is an ideal base for business or pleasure as it is close to major businesses and tourist attractions and the Brooker highway which is the main route to Tasmanias west and north from Hobart. To get to the property you actually drive through historic James Austin Park where the first ferry in Tasmania was located. Public transport is easily accessed and shops are less than half a kilometer away.

A Woolworths-Safeway Shopping Centre is one kilometer away. The Cadbury chocolate factory is very close and one of the oldest National parks in Australia, the Mount Field National Park is less than an hour and a half away. Within two and a half hours you can travel to most destinations in the state including the Derwent Valley, Huon valley, Port Arthur and east coast.

Within two km are golf and bowling facilities. If you bring a bike you can use it! The Derwent provides opportunities for white water canoeing or jetboating further upstream at the historic town of New Norfolk or enjoy a more relaxing time playing golf or bowling at local clubs.

Tasmania is endowed with every activity possible from jetboating to skiing, from mountain climbing to some of the best walking in the world. Snorkelling or surfing, fishing or just snoozing on a beach are all within an hour or so of Derwent Retreat. For those who like dining, nightclubing or gambling, Hobart’s inner suburbs of North Hobart and Salamanca are just a 15 minute drive away and Australia’s first licensed casino, Wrest Point is just a 20 minute drive away.

Salamanca market is a must on Saturday and Moorilla winery is very close to spend the afternoon listening to jazz and tasting their wares. Book a tour of the Cadbury chocolate factory and indulge in chocolates. All are within easy reach of Derwent retreat.
