About this property

Spectacular Mountain Views, Supreme Tranquility & Privacy!

What makes this particular home so special and unique?
'Cochiti'- at 23 Mesa Encantado, is the highest, most private casita within the Pueblo Encantado development and is also one of only 3 free standing homes that are not connected to other casitas. This fabulous retreat offers the ultimate in seclusion and tranquility along with magnificent views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains and has spectacular New Mexican stargazing. This casita is nestled into the foothills and has a beautiful large main patio which expands the entire length of the house. Both bedrooms are very spacious. The master has a south-facing window wall, kiva fireplace (with romantic candles to use instead of firewood due to the new carpeting) and a screened door to the main patio which affords gorgeous mountain views. The guest bedroom has french doors (with screen doors) that open onto a private patio with it's own seating area and outdoor kiva fireplace. Both bedrooms have new carpet and beautiful, newly renovated bathrooms complete with travertine shower walls and stone countertops. The living room also has a corner kiva fireplace, wood beams and has floor to ceiling windows with exquisite mountain views from all. There is a beautiful 3 cushion leather sofa, 2 comfy leather chairs and a bench seat (banco) by the fireplace. The kitchen is fully appointed, with brand new manufactured stone counter tops, floor tile and new stainless steel appliances (2021). There is also a kitchen bar with 2 bar stools along with a cozy dining room, although the outside dining table is 'the' place to savor any homemade or take out meals! All the unusual furnishings, original southwest art and unique, decorative accessories have all been hand-selected by the owner’s mother and by the owner herself - who's a decorator with a business in the Vail Valley of Colorado. Celebrities such as Robert Redford, Robert Michener, Liz Taylor and Bruce Springstein have stayed at Cochiti numerous times.

The 5 star Four Seasons 'Encantado Spa & Restaurant' is located just across the street (only a 10 minute walk) and offers fine dining, a bar and an array of luxurious spa treatments. Hiking trails are literally right outside your door at Cochiti (with gorgeous 360 degree vistas and magnificent sunsets just up the hill behind the house. And you can venture right into the heart of the nearby Santa Fe National Forest. Other activities such as horseback riding, skiing, golf, tennis, rafting, biking, etc. are located nearby. There is also a beautiful outdoor heated pool on the premises (just a short 10 minute walk or 2 minute drive away from the casita) which is open from the end of May to mid October.

Do keep in mind that although Cochiti is an ultra private retreat, it is conveniently located only 10-15 minutes from Downtown Santa Fe, with it's world class adobe architecture, some of the world's finest shops and restaurants, galleries and museums. And, it is only minutes away from Tesuque Village (with 2 great restaurants and several galleries) and the world famous Santa Fe Opera (when open) the new Tesuque Casino. Click the 'View Calendar' link now for availability information~ we fill up fast! And feel free to email Jan at vailskr@aol.com for specific info. We are happy to tell you about our favorite picks for restaurants, recreation, shopping and gallery strolling.

We look forward to having you as our guests and you will see why so many say this is their favorite "home away from home." We know you'll be as enchanted with our casita at Cochiti and Santa Fe as we are! It truly is the “Land of Enchantment.”

Beautiful Santa Fe country stay
This house was beautiful with an incredible art collection inside and out. It felt like a home more than a rental, with a great sense of the people who have lived there. It has a lovely sense of isolation with views over the hillsides, yet it was only 15-20 minutes to Santa Fe Plaza. And the stars - oh my! More stars at night than I've seen in years. The owner was very communicative and helpful. I highly recommend this rental.

Superb property close to Santa Fe Opera
This 2 bedroom/2 bath home has stunning views from the large terrace. the furnishings are comfortable and stylish, the beds great. With a fully appointed kitchen, it's a great place to entertain. The host is gracious and responsive and her "guide book" to Santa Fe spot on. Post-Opera stargazing on the terrace was one of the highlights of our time in this sensational retreat. And it's close to Santa Fe and the very near-by Tesuque Village Market, a great spot for excellent NM cuisine.

About the host

Hosted by Jan Rosenthal

Host profile image
Welcome to paradise! Jan Rosenthal, the owner, lives in Colorado and her parents (June and Rolf), were the owners since 1988. June still lives in Santa Fe. Although this property was rented for many years (and had stellar reviews), it was taken off the market to renters until just recently since June and Rolf used it as a weekend retreat. Now, the entire family looks forward to sharing the special magic and charm of this casita and the experience of Tesuque and Santa Fe with guests from around the globe. Come see for yourself why this special place "gets under your skin and into your heart.'"

Why they chose this property

The family has a deep love of the southwest (and for Santa Fe in particular) and love Native American lore, art and culture. Horseback riding in the area and the 'ranch' feel of Pueblo Encantado was the original attraction. This particular casita (Cochiti #230) is the best location on the property due to the fact that it is the highest one, is free-standing and has the best views and most privacy.

What makes this property unique

The tranquility, serenity and peace that is experienced when at this home is unsurpassed....anywhere! One can literally spend hours/days on either patio taking in the magnificent mountain views, abundant sunshine, the star-filled night sky and fresh pinon and sage-filled air. It is simply 'Magical'!
