The cottage is lovely, warm, comfortable and everything you need. Located outside Whitby off the Scarborough road easily accessible to local areas including Robin Hoods bay and Whitby using the buses. Many walks from the cottage too. Need a set of walking boots if the weather is wet. We really enjoyed our stay.
Cowslip cottage is the perfect size for two people and the views to the sea are lovely with goats and donkeys for entertainment. The cottage is cosy and comfortable with all the kitchen bits needed and a handy bottle of milk on arrival. Even more helpful is the EV charging port. Really good location for exploring Whitby, Robin Hood’s Bay and other local places. Very nice holiday overall!
Gorgeous cottage with sea views nr. Robin Hoods Bay
Perfect location to visit sites all around e.g. Robin Hoods Bay, Whitby, Filey, Staithes, The Cleveland Way, etc. Lots of really good info in welcome pack, especially footpath walk to Boggle Hole beach. Milk, tea, coffee and cake on arrival. Superb views of the countryside and sea. Goats, sheep, chickens and 2 very friendly dogs. Owners very welcoming and helpful. Cottage warm, cosy and very well decorated with everything you need. Good parking. Pub and bus stops at the top of the lane. Excellent!
Not enough stars available so 5 will have to do.
Lovely cottage in an amazing part of the world. Thank you Graham and Lisa, that was one of the best holidays for a long time.

Fantastic cottage with everything that we required.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the cottage was a great base to explore the surrounding area. The owners were very helpful and made us feel welcome. My daughter particularly loved the games room and there was great fields within 2 mins walk for the dog.
We would strongly recommend this cottage to anyone who was thinking about staying in this location.

Super cottage in a lovely place. Really nice welcome. Bus stop with bus to either Whitby or Scarborough just at the top of the lane. Funny donkey alarm in the morning which wakes you up with a smile and a walk to Robin Hoods Bay if you fancy some exercise. 100% recommended.

You can spend the day exploring the picturesque area or having fun on one of the local beaches and come back to relax at the cottage with everything you need for a great holiday. We also enjoyed both the wildlife and domesticated animals at Meadowbeck with a special mention to the lovely donkeys Willow and Bracken! Great little getaway
The cottages are beautifully presented, spotless and have gorgeous views down to the sea. Everything you could need in a home from home is provided, down to tea towels and dishwasher tablets.
Just a short drive or walk down to Robins Hood Bay and a few more miles from Whitby they are in a great location. We loved popping up to the local pub The Flask in the evening and even won the pub quiz!
Great 3 nights away, we thoroughly enjoyed it!

Beautiful cottage. Will definitely be back.
We stayed in the 2 bedroom Cowslip cottage for a week just after Easter. The cottage was beautiful. Spotlessly clean and stylishly decorated. The views from the patio are fabulous with the sea in the distance and a field where the owners donkeys roam during the day. They have a large games room opposite to the cottages with an honesty bar, pool table, darts, chess and more which was great to pop over to for an hour after we had been out. We definitely felt like we were coming 'home' at the end of each day. The location is perfect, 10 minutes in car from Scarborough, 10 minutes in car from Whitby and nicely located for Pickering and Helmsley. There is no doubt that we will definitely be booking to stay there again.

Ideal location for exploring Robin Hood Bay
Excellent accommodation. This is a barn renovation which has been done to a very high standard. We (David, Lorraine and Ying Ling the Siamese cat) felt this was a home from home. The welcome and customer service from Graham and Lisa was exceptional. We would definitely recommend this property to friends and relatives - provided their holiday dates don't clash with ours!

Great to hear that you both felt so at home in Cowslip Cottage and thank you for your lovely comments. It was a pleasure having you to stay, along with the beautiful Ying Ling and not forgetting Stumpy the tortoise. It's the first time we've had a tortoise to stay and it amused us to think he had come away on his holidays and slept all the way through. Hopefully, you can bring him back on a return visit Lorraine - when he is awake and able to share your experience. We'll think of David and his love of biking, when the Tour De Yorkshire riders pass our lane on the 1st May!

So sad to leave
We haven't been so sad to leave a holiday home for a long time. We stayed in Cowslip cottage with our dog. It was perfect for us - cosy, comfortable, with many original features of the original barn. It felt so peaceful sitting on the patio garden watching the birds with the sea view in the background. Those donkeys were a joy to watch - never seen such happy donkeys before! It's well situated for access to a main road too, and so close to Robin Hood's Bay. The games room is a fun addition. I have already recomended it to a few of my friends. Lisa and Graham were always helpful and friendly, whilst respecting our privacy. Thank you Lisa and Graham for a lovely stay.

Sorry to hear you were both sad to leave Cowslip but that's great news for us and at least the Donkeys kept smiling at you and made you happy during your stay.
It was a pleasure to have you to stay and we appreciate you recommending our cottages to your friends. Good luck with the house hunting - we hope you find what you're looking for.
About the host
Hosted by Lisa Rowett-Smith
Hi Im Lisa and live with my husband Graham on our 10 acre small holding, next door to the cottages. We enjoy welcoming guests to Meadowbeck and are on hand for advice/assistance but do give guests their privacy to get on with their stay in their own way. We have 2 very friendly dogs, 2 donkeys who are out in the paddock from late Spring to Autumn, 2 goats, 4 sheep, chickens and ducks. We moved here in 2012 and renovated our 1760's agricultural stone barn into 3 holiday cottages, our utility barn into a games room and added 3 Shepherd Huts - 1 near the barn and 2 off-grid in our meadow. Graham planted lots of apple trees and now enjoys making Yorkshire Cider. It has been an exhausting journey, a labour of love but we have managed to stay married to each other and wouldn't swap it for the world. We're very proud of what we have achieved and our wonderful guest reviews support that we are providing a great service.
Why they chose this property
We fell in love with the area whilst visiting my parents who live nearby in Scarborough. We were keen to buy a property which allowed us to run a holiday cottage business but also gave us the opportunity to renovate a building ourselves and start the business from scratch. We moved in July 2012 & started work on the barn, which had only housed Cows and Swallows since 1760.
We love living here surrounded by the beautiful North York Moors and looking out on our animal family every day. It's such a peaceful esape with great walks on the doorstop, yet close to amenities and the hustle and bustle of life when you need it. It's great to share our dream with our guests and we love seeing guests return to Meadowbeck - even the Swallows return year after year!
What makes this property unique
Meadowbeck Holiday Cottages are in a great location. Stunning countryside and moorland views, as well as the beautiful coastline - what more is there? Easy to access just off the main A171 Scarborough to Whitby road, yet in a quiet, peaceful area within the North Yorkshire Moors. All accommodation has views of open countryside & the sea. There is an abundance of wildlife on our doorstep and the lack of light pollution gives us some amazing night skies - perfect for star gazing. We regualrly feed the birds, so that guests can enjoy their antics on the birdfeeders and nesting boxes. Easy access by car or bus (from the top of our lane) to a number of quaint villages and coastal towns. There is plenty of free parking directly outside of the cottages for easy access. We're doing our bit to take care of the environment and have an energy efficient heating source, solar panels and our water is provided from a natural spring. Our meadow is organic with an abundance of wildflowers and we manage our woodland area to encourage the wildlife. Electric Vehicle Charger for guests use - fees apply. Storage for cycles. Public Footpath with walks to the moors and coast - straight from the accommodation. Guests Games Room onsite. Fresh free range eggs from our hens - when available. Outside dog wash with hot & cold water.
