The house and property were amazing! The location is a little remote, but our family loved the relaxing vibe of the place. Plenty of rooms to fit everyone.
The outdoor space was beautiful. Overall the house could use some maintenance and touch ups.

Beautiful property. House and grounds are clean and very well equipped. Caretaker is an amazing person. Only issue any of us had were the beds are old and worn. Otherwise it's a great place in a great location (quiet, yet close to everything the Fortuna area has to offer).
This place is amazing! The grounds are secluded, beautiful, and well maintained. The outdoor area was a great place to relax and enjoy our time as a group of 13 adults. We enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this location for families and large groups.
Great house and great experience. We were close enough to all of the attractions and experiences, but far enough to enjoy some solidarity.Absolutely loved it.
Great place for large group. Isabelle is the housekeeper and so super nice. We had her join our group for dinner one night. The house is layed out great. We also seen a lot of wildlife on the property, birds iguanas, lizards, etc. Main town is about 20 minutes away, very touristy, but lots of nice cafes and places to eat. Would definitely stay here again.
I stayed at the Casa Descanso with a group of eleven friends, and it is truly a beautiful place. We loved the outdoor spaces, the ambiance, the pool, and Marta, the incredibly helpful and warm housekeeper. The interior of the house is fully equipped, the upstairs bathrooms are a little dorm-y but sufficient, but the overall location and charm of this place was amazing. The pictures don't fully describe how lovely it was. Marta was super helpful; despite my lame Spanish, she was able to get us a reservation to a restaurant that we couldn't get in touch with, helped our friends book a last minute river float, and brought us fresh eggs and bananas in the morning. We missed this place after we moved on. I highly recommend it.
We absolutely loved the home! We had a family reunion of 3 families (total of 8 adults and 7 kids ranging from age 5 to 21). Everyone loved the quiet and calm surroundings. We ate fresh papaya and drank fresh coconut water from nearby trees. We enjoyed finding avocado trees, banana trees, mango trees all around as well. The wildlife was amazing as well - birds, iguanas from a distance. On site there is a very friendly, beautiful white horse! The house itself offered convenient and clean bathrooms, perfect for large groups. The swimming pool and outdoor space to relax was also great! Martha, the lady who welcomed us, was so sweet and helpful for anything we needed. We cooked quite a bit and found everything we needed, including a pressure cooker! The only thing to keep in mind is that it is a little remote and takes about 30min drive to reach La Fortuna. We planned activities everyday and just met the company's transportation in the town.
Was a great place for large groups. Was rather warm two of the 7 days we were there. The air conditioners in the bed rooms worked great. One of the two showers upstairs was not working. It only had cold water. There were two other showers working. The pool was great. Did not see any sloths on the property but saw many Iguanas and beautiful birds. The road into the property was rather rough but so were many other roads in Costa Rica. The lady (wish I could spell her name) on the property was wonderful. She did not speak English and we spoke very limited Spanish but we communicated through iPhone. She was extremely helpful and very friendly.
We loved the property and house. The animals were amazing and we could see Arenal. We liked that it was out of the main town and more authentic, however there were a few items that didn't work well worth noting. The fan in the downstairs bedroom didn't work which was disappointing as that room didn't have AC, and the refrigerator didn't work consistently so we did lose some food. There were two toilets that didn't flush well and one overflowed, so we just used the two newer ones. Honestly, we loved our stay and enjoyed ourselves, these are only notes to be aware of. Carlos the manager was on site and very nice but our Spanish wasn't good enough to really tell him what was working or not. Lovely property for a big family
Here are the highlights I thought I'd call out:
-There are tons of fun things to do at the house like ping pong, pool, the swimming pool, games, exploring the property, the animals, etc.
-Other reviews mentioned the road. We found the drive to be very easy. It's about 5 minutes on a dirt/gravel road. We were there in monsoon season and it rained every day but the roads were great.
-The bathroom is also mentioned in other reviews. The main bathroom on the second floor is definitely "dorm like" but it was not a problem in the least for our group of 12 with 4 different families. It's definitely not luxurious but it gets the job done!
-The host instantly responded to communications everytime we reached out. He has a local person that lives in a separate house on the property who is available for any issues too. She only speaks Spanish but we used Google Translate to communicate with no issue.
Great out door living! lots of fun activities to do and just hang out. The floor plan of the home is such that it open to alot of the outdoors. That was really nice to not be cooped up inside all the time. It was a little buggy at times- but ok. It could have used a few more cooking pans and utensils. Maybe adding a propane tank to the grill so it is a little more accessable. The dryer was not operational while we were there becuz the care taker said the last renters had broken it and it was out for repair. And I get it- stuff happens and although not a neccesisty- being there in rainy season and high humidity- made it difficult for things to dry. The owner was great and really helped us arrange several fun excursions at great discounted prices. We did several of the must do's while visiting Costa Rica- being in napture, Zip linning, sloth sight seeing, expirenced CR food amd culture-We really had a nice trip.
This property had everything we could want and more. To start, the property is massive with a soccer field, pool, a sweet horse, foosball, ping-pong, pool table, fruit trees, and a river running alongside the house. There are tons of beds to accommodate a lot of people. Each room had its own AC and was very comfortable. We felt very fortunate enough to receive coconuts, avocados, and other fruits from the trees. The property manager and staff are very attentive to anything you need. The only complaints I have was the kitchen was a bit disorganized and didn't have a lot of the items we needed. The property manager was quick to buy things to supplement. The other complaint, which really wasn't that big of a deal, was the bathroom is set up more like a dorm. There are two showers and two bathrooms in one area with a two person sink. We are family of nine and we made it work. Sitting on the covered patio, watching the rainstorms was magical. It was only a 30 minute drive to all the activities in La Fortuna. We would definitely stay there again!
My family loved this place. The property is huge and beautiful with so much wildlife all around. On our second day, we found a sloth up on a branch only 10 ft off the ground. We then found a momma sloth holding her baby in another tree just a few trees away. Many iguanas start roaming the grounds when the sun gets warm and climb to the tops of the trees for snacks. Baby iguanas were found and caught in the house to our kids delight. Many birds were singing us songs while the horse of the house grazed away. My kids loved heading down to the river to fish and try to catch Jesus Christ lizards. Only one small fish was caught. The river can change depths a lot in 24 hours, but when it was low, it was safe. We didn’t go down to it when it was high.
The inside of the house is simple, but it was enough. The one downstairs bedroom has no AC, but we didn’t sleep there. All the upstairs bedrooms have AC and they work great. The kitchen also had anything we needed, as we cooked breakfasts and dinners there. No dishwasher, but no prob for us.
We really enjoyed resting under the covered patio in the mornings and evenings listening to all the sounds. We played a lot of ping pong and foosball. The pool table is a bit wonky, but still fun. If you’re a ping pong purest, you may want to bring your own ping pong balls. The ones there are cheap.
The pool was fantastic! It has been updated since the pictures were taken and is much better and a bit bigger.
Overall, we loved it.
The pool was great. The outdoor area with all the games was amazing. The rooms were great and AC was nice and cold. Communication with the house contact was amazing. Juan was very quick to answer every time. The only thing I would upgrade is the kitchen. And a propane bbq. Would definitely recommend it for a large group. Would stay again for sure.
Our group included my young family of 5, my parents, friends with 2 young kids, and their parents. We stayed for a week and loved it! The road to get to the property was very bumpy (took 7-10 minutes to get to main road). The kitchen was minimally set up but we grilled each night and it was just fine. The outside table sat 13 people so it made for great family dinners. The humidity was very low so the outdoor space functioned as our living room, playroom, etc. Our young kids (5 kids under 7 years old) slipped a few times of the floor because it was slick when wet from coming and going from the pool. The toilets and showers were basic and dorm-like but clean. The neighbor's white horse would make its way through the gate and poop in the soccer field (and there were fire ants) so we didn't use it often. (Juan had it cleaned up for us though.) We saw a sloth, monkeys, hummingbirds, toucans, frogs, and other beautiful birds just on the property which was very cool. Juan was very responsive and helpful! We arranged through him discounted tickets for ziplining and he provided lots of recommendations. We used the house as home-base and would adventure out each morning and return around 4pm. You can see the mountains and volcano from the property when the clouds clear. We had a wonderful time and the house was ideal for our group.

Even though on the map, it is a short drive to La Fortuna, it is a 30-35 min drive. It is 4.5 minutes down a very rough road to your house once you leave the asphalt. It is in a gated compound. It is one of the nicest houses in the area but it was still a little different than the expected from the pictures. Very beautiful surroundings. The kitchen setup was minimal, we ended up wasting in town for all meals. I feel it was overpriced compared to other listings that we have used.
We really enjoyed some down time at this house. The games on the patio kept us entertained for hours. We had plenty of space to be together or separate when wanted. We were about 15 minutes from La Fortuna, which was fine for us.
The property is beautiful with lots of amazing flowers and animals. We played pool, fooseball, ping pong, swam, and walked around in the quiet areas. Carlos, the house manager, knocked some coconuts down for us and opened them for us to enjoy coconut water…yummy!
The downstairs bedroom does not have air conditioning, which made us rearrange our sleeping areas, but with the bunk bed room there was lots of space to accommodate.
We loved the house and property. It was beautiful and comfortable for a group of 11. Mario was an excellent host. He was very helpful and accommodating.
