About this property
Apartment for friends and family in the center of Bologna
The apartment is located in the beautiful center of Bologna. We called it "four steps" because it is close to everything: four steps (15 minutes on foot) from the train station and from the airport bus, from the bus station, from Piazza Maggiore and from the oldest University in Europe. Served by all public transport.
Nearby are concentrated museums, libraries, the best restaurants, bars and pubs, but there are plenty of supermarkets, greengrocers as well as the famous Herb Market, where you can eat at home.
Please note: the apartment is on the first floor without a lift. We are sorry but the building is not yet equipped with access for people with reduced mobility. We're working on it!!
Being in a condominium, the classic rules of good neighborliness apply, ie: from 10 pm to 7 am, avoid loud noises and screams on the stairs, do not throw cigarette butts out of the window.
We encourage recycled collection, clearly you are not obliged. However close to home, in via Righi, there are the bins with all the recycled.
For those who come by car we remind that the apartment is on the border of the Limited Traffic Zone. So enjoy the tranquility of the ZTL, but it is not allowed to enter by car from 7.00 to 20.00 (without permission). Nearby there are numerous parking possibilities. (look down).
The House
According to the Ariosti archive, the ancient house of Bonifacio, Guido, respects the building where you live. Rinaldo, Guglielmo di Tommaso Ariosti, who had a house in via Bertiera Scoperta. The deed is from Bondomenico da Cento of 5 December 1330
The street
Bertiera is a very old name. Already mentioned in the summits of 1296 as Strata Beriteriorum, Bereteriii
As for the origin of the odonimo Bertiera, according to the hypothesis of the historians (the Zanti and the Fanti), it directs from the fact that in this region hats were produced, known as the bereterii and the actual Bertiera. The via bereteriorum and the contratam beretariorum are documented in the State Archive on 1268, areas close to the Reno canal (ripa fossati, super fossato civitatis, navigium), in line with the quotations from the 1296 estimates.
The district
The apartment is in the San Vitale district, the University district, of the bars, of the "biassanot", a Bolognese word to indicate the "mastica notte", of the night owls. Don't worry though! Our road is quite silent.
You are very close to many restaurants, bars, trattorias, night clubs. there is something for everyone. We are not even suggesting one to the other. Lose yourself in the narrow streets and look for what you like best.
A bit of history
The building where you will stay, stands on the walls of about 1100. Also called Torresotti or Mille walls.
In the communal period the population of Bologna is in strong increase, and many houses begin to be built outside the ROMAN MURARIA CINTA DETA "DI SELENITE" OF THE SEC. IV and V, therefore the need arises to protect these new neighborhoods as well. A second wall was therefore built, about four kilometers long, equipped with 19 doors called serragli or torresotti (because they were surmounted by defense towers), surrounded by a moat fed by the Aposa stream and the Reno river.
Of the 19 doors today there are only four, and one is precisely the Torresotto of Via Piella just below the house (it is 900 years old) !!! The others still existing are the Torresotto of via Porta Nova, of via San Vitale and of via Castiglione. The last circle of walls, the most visible, are from the 13th century.
