Lovely little house for two

My husband and I stayed here while our children and their partners and children stayed in the big house on the property. It is very nice and was well designed and furnished. Loved the living room area with all the windows and the porches. You are far enough away from the big house that really you don’t have to feel at all apart of it. It’s really is a place on its own. Yet it was very nice to be close enough to our family that we could walk over.

Lovely cottage right on Somes Sound

Beautiful property right on the shore of Somes Sound. Cabin was cozy and well- equipped. Close by to both Southwest Harbor and Bar Harbor. Convenient to Acadia National Park. Would definitely stay again.

Cute and quiet respite

At the end of a dirt road and right on Soames Sound, this casita is great for a couple who aren't interested in doing much cooking. The accommodations include many small touches that made us feel welcome, and the host was extremely responsive. It is not very convenient to the Island's free shuttle bus system.isconsideration.tocomfortable and man

You won’t be disappointed!

Casita on Somes Sound is a wonderful place to stay. Water views, daily greetings from deer and lots of bald eagle sightings . Perfect location between Bar Harbor and SW Harbor. Being our first trip to the area we did a lot of research but Arax had so much information at the house that we were able to review maps, restaurant etc with ease. We were informed that there would be quests in the main house but don’t let that concern you as privacy was never a concern. Keep in mind there isn’t a full kitchen nor washer/dryer but we did just fine.

Casita stay

We had the most enjoyable stay at Arax’s Casita. It has lovely water views and in the evenings it is so peaceful and you will enjoy the sounds of the loons! The place is comfortable and spotlessly clean with everything in working order and she is prompt to reply to any questions.

Best place EVER!!

We can’t say enough wonderful things about the house or our host, Arax! She thought of EVERYTHING in this house and even left us fresh cheese, blueberries and wine as a treat when we arrived! She also had many extras that you don’t see elsewhere - shampoos, face wash, lotions, firewood, portable chairs (we took to top of Cadillac summit to watch sunset one night) etc! The location is absolutely perfect - we spent most nights on the shore overlooking somes sound, watching the moon rise - with a fire in the firepit! We used the firepit in front of the house one night which was wonderful too! we enjoyed everything in Acadia national park and in Bar Harbor too! This house is best location because you can easily access park and bar harbor (and southwest harbor too) but stay in this private oasis - with unbelievable landscaping overlooking the water. There was another family who stayed in the big house (on same property) during a few days of our stay but we only saw each other once!! (they joined us around the firepit one night and were super nice!) we can’t say enough great things about this house or the property! It was just me and my husband on this trip (so we rented the smaller house) but we definitely plan to return with our whole family next time and rent the big house for all of us!

Quiet stay in the woods

This cabin, part of a compound of three homes, is beautiful and cozy. Thoughtful touches are everywhere and Arax is very quick to communicate. The only issue I had was lack of cellular service.

Perfect retreat

This cottage is a little gem! It is so cozy and beautiful. The perfect place to come home after a long day of hiking or sight seeing in the area. Arax is a wonderful host. She stocked the cottage with snacks and coffee and even had a bottle of wine waiting for us in the fridge when we arrived. She was also so helpful with restaurant recommendations and hiking in the area. Communication with her was a breeze. We loved having our coffee down by the sound in the morning where we could watch the seals and other wildlife. The bed was so comfortable and I honestly slept better there than I do at home! She has thought of everything to make this a home away from home. We had a perfect stay and can’t wait to return. Thank you Arax for creating such a wonderful retreat.

Perfect casita

Arax's casita is simply lovely. She is so thoughtful..She left for us wine, snacks, and candy. She even had welcome gifts. Her property is stunning. We loved being on the quiet side of MDI. Wonderful hiking nearby. Close to Bar Harbor if that is your desire. Highly recommend this property..

Idyllic Cottage Close To All

To say Arax is a superhost doesn't begin to explain how wonderful this person actually is. The place is lovely, nestled among pine trees at the end of a quiet lane, with a gorgeous view of the sound. No detail has been overlooked. Not only is the place adorable, it's also immaculately clean and well maintained, the bed is comfortable, and the internet is awesome. We so appreciated Arax's genuine desire to make sure we got everything we needed and had the best possible trip. So grateful for her, and for the wonderful time we had at her beautiful cottage.

A MAGICAL place with amazing views and a PHENOMENAL owner

The Casita is an AMAZING place to stay. The view from the living room is spellbinding. Waking up in the bedroom with a view of the water and hearing the calls of the loons is awe inspiring. It's especially tranquil to sit at the beach and listen to the water lap over the rocks. But the best thing of all is Arax. She is so kind and thoughtful, leaving so many unexpected goodies and everything you could ask for and more. More than a vacation or relaxation, we have gained a friend. Thank you Arax. Beth & Mike

Perfect getaway

We had the absolute best time here! The casita was exactly what we needed, and the location was perfect. We woke up every morning to the most beautiful and peaceful views, and went to sleep with the most beautiful night sky! Arax was a wonderful host, she gave us everything we could have possibly needed, and her pup, Coda, was the sweetest! Truly don't have enough good things to say about this stay.

Superb Host & Casita

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Arax's casita in September 2020. Arax communicated with us prior to and during our stay, answering all of our questions and giving us her tips and suggestions for the area. We had the pleasure of interacting with her as she stayed on the property in the main house during our stay (there are 3 rental units on the property as previously stated by another reviewer) but we still felt that we had privacy. The casita was very extremely well equipped and we could cook all of our meals there if we so chose. Arax has truly thought of so many items one could need while there. The view of Somes Sound, the casita itself, and the property were spectacular.

Wonderful experience

My fiancee and I had a wonderful time at Arax's home. There were so many thoughtful touches to the house, including a bottle of wine, snacks, wood for the campfire, bug spray, sunscreen, flashlights, etc. Arax was also very responsive throughout our stay to ensure we had a great experience. Waking up each morning with Somes Sound out the bedroom window and from our porch was a highlight, as were the fire pits in the front yard and out on the beach. If you go kayaking, be sure to go when it is high tide because it was impossible with the rocks when we tried! Also be aware that there is another rental house immediately next door. Another family stayed there and they were all very friendly, so it didn't affect our stay at all. This was a great experience overall and Arax was a terrific host!

"Grandma's House"

We loved staying in the whole compound here. We had our kids with us in the main house, and the Casita was Grandma and Grandpa's getaway. It was well outfitted with everything they needed, and it was great for them to have a special spot to play with the grandkids individually and have their early morning coffee together, etc. They loved the property and the location for their daily walks.

Great find, with easy access to Acadia National Park

The property was exactly as it appears online. Very clean and cozy with all the basic amenities. The kitchen, as it states in the listing, includes a small fridge and microwave. But we enjoyed eating many meals at the great restaurants in Bar Harbor. The location was peaceful and beautiful, right on the water. Everything was great with the exception of weather one day. Would definitely recommend.

More than you even knew you wanted in a home away from home.

We found the Casita to be a beautiful, peaceful, and comfortable place to stay while visiting Acadia National Park. Our only regret is that we did not have more time to enjoy all of the amenities made available to us. The view out of the picture window, which literally looked like a picture, made it difficult for us to do any early-morning hikes in the park, but the serenity it offered was a perfectly relaxing way to begin each day of our vacation. Arax could not have been a more gracious, inviting, and helpful host, even if she was a relative. For two people looking for tranquility near a National Park with heavy traffic, it would be difficult to find a more ideal home away from home than the Casita on Somes Sound.

Relaxing getaway

Arax’s space is a little slice of heaven. The Casita had everything we needed for a five day getaway in Acadia. She was so responsive, made sure we were comfortable, and had kayaks and bikes you can use whenever you like. One of the highlights of our trip was kayaking next to dolphins and seals in the sound right in front of the property - something we’ll never forget. It’s only a 20 minute drive to Bar Harbor and the popular trails, but there’s plenty of amazing less populated west side trails to hit and a few great restaurants right around the corner. Needless to say we will be back! Thank you, Arax.

A very pleasant respite from our hectic world!

Arax has done a wonderful job taking care of every little detail to make our visit wonderful. It was my husband and I for 5 days to unwind, hike and reconnect. We were a little apprehensive with the dirt roads leading to the cottage, but it was so very much worth it. This location was so different from the other side of the island and yet so easy to get to Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain. Her thoughtfulness started with the welcome gift of wine (yay!) to the spa toiletries to the beach towels ready for us to use. I could not think of another thing that she did not take care of. I took so many photos of the sound in the morning because each morning was a wonder of sunrise, loons and lobster boats doing their daily work. Dinner at the cottage was great, overlooking the sound and enjoying the quiet. We explored Northeast Harbor and Southwest Harbor and found some very nice shops and local restaurants. The people were very welcoming, helpful and pleasant. Being on this side of the sound, we found many other trails to hike that are not as crowded as Cadillac Mountain, so many that we will be coming back again and again. We will most certainly rebook with Arax as this has been very enjoyable. I loved meeting Arax and her dog, Coda. Next time we will be taking advantage of the kayaks and the firepits (yard and beach!). Thank you so much Arax and we look forward to booking with you the next time we visit! A piece of heaven in Somes Sound

First time with VRBO landed the best place ever- a real piece of heaven. The casita was perfect for 2 people, quiet and offered spectacular views. We were no more than 15 minutes to anything- Bar Harbor, Cadillac mountain, Southwest harbor, etc. The better part was that Arax, the property owner, is now a new friend. She was attentive and responsive and truly cared we had everything we needed for our stay. Another bonus was the family renting the larger house on the property was also from our state and we, too became friends sharing where we ate and what we did around a campfire. We came here for the beautiful water view and we’re not disappointed. Every morning we heard the loons and the lobster boats starting their day working the traps. We even watched seals play and feed right in front of the house. We could not have wanted anymore from this vacation and the casita was perfect. Thank you, Arax for taking care of us and offering your beautiful property. We will return!
