Perfect, beautiful location for easy access to and around Acadia. The hosts were easy to communicate with, and the guidebook was very helpful. Overall, a lovely place to stay!
Echoing the sentiments of other reviewers…charming and rustic cottage with gorgeous views. Quiet, super clean, full size washer and dryer, well-equipped kitchen, comfy couches, super friendly and responsive host. Close proximity to the hustle and bustle of Bar Harbor and Cadillac Mountain as well as the quiet respite of Southwest Harbor. Can’t go wrong!
Paul was a fantastic host and gave us a great experience. The view of the sound was beautiful and the ambience of the home was quaint and comfortable. The home has everything that is needed and the grill is a nice added touch. The location is nice and central to the area but allows for a quiet and secluded feel. Definitely recommend it!
Great location to acessing Acadia national Park, as well as all the surrounding harbors. Cabin is comfortable, and having two bathrooms was a great plus. You can tell the hosts want everyone to be comfortable and enjoy their stay. There are a lot of little extras throughout the house, like firewood, extra kitchen, utensils, plenty of extra blankets, brochures of things to do. this made it very nice and welcoming.
We take our grandkids (6 & 9) on a trip each summer. We all had a great stay at Sounderosa. The location was perfect and the cabin suited everyone just fine. The kids loved spending time on the front porch looking at boats. Close to hikes, swimming, exploring and great food.
This place is rustic but comfortable. We had an incredible view of the water, yet plenty of privacy. Host took care of some of the simple things you may forget- bath soap, laundry detergent, paper towels, etc. I asked him for a recommendation where to get lobsters and he delivered fresh caught to the fridge! Highly recommend this place and host!
We had an enjoyable stay in”Sounderosa” one of several authentic cottages overlooking the Somes sound in Hall Quarry. Our place was an original cottage built in the 1960’s with furnishings and dishware that fits that era but with modern appliances, updated bathrooms and heat/AC unit. Impeccably clean. Paul, the grandson of the family now runs the daily operations. He could not have been more accommodating, helpful and kind. It was a pleasure to see him doing work around the grounds, and wave hi as we passed. Easy access to Acadia and the area but off the beaten path, nice and quiet. We are hoping to bring our entire family for a vacation in the future and rent a couple of the cottages. Highly recommended.
We have stayed at a lot of rental properties and this was by far our favorite experience. Paul and Ashlee are the best hosts! We didn’t realize we had to print the park pass and Paul had it printed and delivered to us within 10 minutes. The property is beautiful and centrally located to anything on the island! We fished off the dock everyday. We saw seals, dolphins, jellyfish and caught some mackerel. Cooking fresh lobster from the dock for dinner was a great experience- and delicious! The house was spotless as well. The views and sunrise from the deck cannot be beat. It’s so quiet and peaceful. You have neighbors, but cannot see them or hear them. We loved it all and cannot say enough good things about our stay!!!
This cottage was perfect for our family vacation. Our hosts were amazing and easily reachable. Acadia, hiking trails, beaches, and amazing restaurants were all close by, just a few minute drive. The cottage it’s self was beautiful. The kitchen was stocked with all of the cooking utensils we needed. Super clean and comfortable. The best part was the back deck that showed amazing views of the sound. We usually don’t repeat our family vacation spots, but we’re already planning on coming back next year.
Property was so close to everything, yet tucked away from the hustle and bustle. We went on vacation with a number of other families, and our rental was the only one with a view, air conditioning, and quiet. We were very happy with our choice, and Paul was very responsive and accommodating. Not to mention the lobster was incredible! Highly recommended.
My husband, daughter and I just finished our week at Sounderosa cottage on Mt Desert Island. Paul was wonderfully accommodating and getting lobsters from him at the dock was our favorite part! The beds were comfy and we were always ready to cook in the kitchen, which included everything we needed, after getting local seafood. We hiked all we could on the trails close by; it really is the quiet side of Acadia! Our daughter loved swimming at Echo Lake and we took our our SUP from the beach. We took the rowboat out from the property dock and also had coffee there in the mornings. Can’t say enough about how wonderful our week was at Sounderosa cottage!
An excellent little cottage with comfortable beds, a great view, and a fantastic location. Within 15 minutes of Cadillac Mountain and Bar Harbor, our destination for this trip. Paul was extremely accommodating and responsive, and caught us some great lobster!
I traveled to Maine with my husband and parents for a week of vacation and we loved our stay here. The home is a small cute clean cabin feel with a beautiful view right in the heart of Mt Desert Island. We would drive to Acadia and Bar Harbor daily for hikes (20 minutes) and we spent time in Bass Harbor and beech mountain as well (20 min). Definitely recommend staying here- perfect size for a family of 2-5. And don’t forget to ask the owner Paul about buying some fresh lobsters from the dock!
Close to Acadia and bar harbor, 15 to 30 minutes to most attractions. Love the stunning view from the deck. Walking distance to floating docks. Caught pullock, atlantic mackerel, cunner, monkfish and windowpane flounder from the dock. Enjoyed fresh lobsters everyday from the owner. All bedrooms and bathrooms have heaters, living room has AC.
The moment we arrived at Sounderosa we knew we would be repeat customers. The location is absolute blissful heaven with views of Somes Sound and Cadillac mountain. From sunrise to sunset you are enveloped by nature—the water on one side and the cozy Maine woods on the other. The sounds of birds calling to one another in the air collide with the loons’ song rising up from the sea and being a peace that would be tough to find on the (other) side of the island. Deer greeted us everyday and let us watch them as they chomped away on acorns and whatever else they could find amongst the rustling leaves in the woods. The house itself was immaculately clean and contained everything we needed to make our own meals (which we did most of the time) and of course our morning coffee which we always enjoyed on the deck. When it got chilly one night it took no time to get a fire started thanks to the wood stack set up prepared by the hosts, and we did use the heat which works well enough for the cooler fall evenings. We messaged Paul a couple of times about places to put our kayak in, etc and he responded immediately each time. The location is absolutely perfect for many reasons. I have only stayed in Bar Harbor the previous 3 times I’ve been in MDI and I will never stay anywhere but the “quiet side” from now on. It only took 20 minutes to get to the Hull Cove visitor center and Bar Harbor, and we had access to hiking trails with few to no other people on them they gave the same or better spectacular views as the crowded trails on the other side of the island. We kayaked on serene Echo Lake which is literally about 6 minutes from the cottage, used our stand up paddle boards on Long Pond (maybe 10-12 min away), hiked up Cadillac mountain with headlamps to catch sunrise (trail head was 20 min from the cottage), and explores Southwest Harbor, Bass Harbor, Pretty Marsh (total gem!) and never encountered crowds. We did also explore the more well known Sand Beach, Otter Cliffs/Cove, Thunder Hole and did some hikes in that area as well, but our favorite moments were back near our home away from home at Sounderosa Cottage, including just relaxing and reading on the deck or playing cribbage in the living room. I think it says a lot when the house you are staying at while on vacation is one of the “attractions” and you actually WANT to spend time there, not just use it as a home base for other activities. We didn’t want to leave and we can’t wait to come back. Exceptional.
Nice property. Great views and a nice place to relax. Good size for our family of 5 to explore Acadia for a week
Enjoyed being able to put a kayak in the sound so close to the place
Loved our stay! Five of us ladies decided to go on a week long girls trip. We found the house very clean, comfy and plenty of room for the five of us. Beds were very comfortable and bed linens were very nice. The view from the deck and living room was beautiful., overlooking the lake. We were able to grill some steaks on the small grill and even had a fire in the fireplace one chilly rainy evening. It was just what we expected and would definitely go again. We had bad storms one evening which knocked out the satellite TV but the owner was right on top of it to get it back online. I will tell you the only downfall is weak cell phone and internet. Some times you have it and sometimes you don’t. It’s a 10-15 minute drive to Bar Harbor and about 5 minutes the other direction to a small grocery store. Just minutes to Cadillac Mountain which is a breathtaking view. We found it convenient to everything if you’re willing to drive a few minutes.

Relaxing Stay on Somes Sound
Views were amazing looking over the Sound and views of Cadillac Mountain. The place was very clean and well provisioned. We used the indoor fireplace nightly and cooked our own lobster. The hosts were very helpful and accommodating. Very quiet and laid back area away from the tourist scene of Bar Harbor. Highly recommended property.
