Gem Cottage is a beautiful, traditionally built stone cottage with modern interior set on the shores of the Cromarty Firth. The cottage boasts a number of creature comforts including wood burner, underfloor heating, sauna, freestanding bath and rainfall shower. Steps from the front door to a quiet bay and stone beach. To the rear the cottage has uninterrupted views of the Wyvis range and Fyrish Monument. Sheep graze in the field behind the cottage. On the NC500, only 20 miles north of Inverness.
Inside the cottage there is a bright, open plan lounge and kitchen centered around the cozy log burning fire. The perfect spot for taking in views of the mountains, watching the sunrise over the Cromarty Firth or enjoying the sheep grazing in the fields behind the cottage. The reading room is stocked with books or connect to the Wi-Fi or smart TV and watch a film by the fire on a rainy day. The fully equipped kitchen is perfect for dining in. Rotate the Aga log burner so that it's facing the dining table and you can enjoy a meal by the fire.
There is one bedroom with super king bed, walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom with freestanding bath. A second wet room bathroom, with rainfall shower and two person sauna, is the perfect place to relax and unwind after a day of outdoor activities. Or to warm up after an open water swim in the firth!
There is an additional room (the reading room) with daybed with a full single mattress. This room has arguably the best views in the house and is perfect for relaxing with a book or as a flexible additional sleeping space separate from the main living area. Also included, a separate utility area with washing machine. There is underfloor heating throughout the cottage.
The cottage enjoys spectacular views of the Cromarty Firth. Every day is a little bit different! One day the sun is shining and the Firth will be a still as glass, reflecting the sky and mountains. The next day the weather can be wild, with waves crashing on the beach and snow on the mountains. The bay is the perfect spot for swimming, paddle boarding or kayaking. Sheep graze in the fields behind the cottage right up to the back deck. The cottage is down a one lane road, with only a few neighbors but is less than a mile walk in to Evanton, with shop and pub.
The cottage is located directly on the NC500. One of the world's most spectacular coastal touring routes.
Local attractions: Black Rock Gorge, Fyrish Monument (15 mins), Loch Glass (20 mins), Ben Wyvis (45 mins), Aviemore/Cairngorms National Park (1hr)
Popular firth walks from Kiltearn Church ruin, a few hundred metres from the garden.
The cottage is all one level with modern wide doorways, wet room and ramp access. Firewood, kindling and firelighters are included with the booking.

This place is perfect. It's down a country road and right on a beautiful walking path that goes along the water and into the nearby village of Evanton. Very private, very clean. 10/10 would stay here again.
Gabrielles Gem Cottage is so aptly named. It’s the perfect little gem to bunker down for the holidays and that is exactly what my husband and I did. Of course the luxury amenities such as heated floors and the sauna ( not to mention a claw foot tub!) but Gabrielle's added touches of holiday cheer made us feel most welcome! Can not recommend enough and do hope to be able to stay again!!
A beautiful cottage and lovely peaceful location. The welcoming gifts were much appreciated. A very comfortable and well equipped cottage. Underfloor heating was great, and the wood burner in the evenings made it so cosy. Thank you Gabrielle. We will definitely be back.
Gabrielle’s attention to detail was amazing. She provided everything we could have wanted and more. There were numerous books on the history of Scotland as well as things to do in Scotland that we enjoyed pouring over. We also loved the wood burning stove, soaking tub and sauna…so relaxing after a day of hiking. I think what I personally enjoyed the most was all of the art work on the walls.and the extra touches that turn a house into a home. We highly recommend Gem House and would definitely return if we travel to Scotland in the future. Warm regards, Jandira and Tom
This property exceeded all of our expectations. The house is impeccably decorated to a high standard and style. Looks like an example from a decorating magazine. It’s an incredibly cozy cottage with wonderful views of sheep and hills out the back. Close to many local attractions. Gabrielle was very responsive, and nice touches like milk in the refrigerator and snacks upon arrival were greatly appreciated. I have stayed at many rental properties, and this one sits at the top. I highly recommend it
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Gabrielle's wonderful cottage. What a perfect place to enjoy a storm and look out at the blowing trees. The description of the cottage doesn't adequately express just how much thought and care have been taken to create such a wonderful retreat. Cozy, comfortable, extra touches, a warming sauna and an incredibly comfortable bed. We consider our stay to be a highlight of our three week vacation. Gabrielle's recommendations for restaurants in the area also greatly appreciated. With gratitude. Jennifer and Erin
My husband and I were based at this beautiful cottage during our trip to the Highlands. The communication with Gabrielle was on point no matter what the question and/or concern. She was extremely timely and accommodating in her replies - every time! The cottage’s setting is like something out of a movie. This property was immaculate, comfortable and cozy, amazing views from every window, well supplied kitchen, really nice front and side decks, minutes from the water and a wonderful old church steps away. It was the perfect location for all our day trips. We booked a 3 day tour of The Orkney and never worried for a minute about leaving the cottage and coming back to find everything was just as we left it. Gabrielle was so sweet to assure us that it was fine. The furniture, art work, decorative pieces, books and creature comforts were all perfect! Whether you are wanting to escape the chaos of the world, a romantic getaway, a base for all things Highlands - do not hesitate for one minute. You will be delighted and so thankful you did. Thank you Gabrielle for a wonderful stay - you are appreciated for EVERYTHING you did for us! Yvonne
This is a fabulous property. We enjoyed an entire month here and fell absolutely in love with the location, the people, and the sites that are within a reasonable distance from the cottage. A walk out the front door can either take you along the firth on one side and sheep on the other, or along the firth to a lovely wood, the trail in the woods leads to the nearest village. The cottage itself exceeded all expectations. Modern fixtures and features were notable throughout the dwelling. A very comfortable place to relax in or return to after a day of adventure. The well-equipped kitchen was perfect for cooking in when desired. On cool evenings, building a fire in the woodstove offered great comfort and coziness. The big claw foot tub and little two-person sauna just topped off the comfort of this wonderful cottage. And, the cottage is beautifully decorated as well. The hostess, Gabrielle, is over the top competent in making sure our stay enjoyable. We unreservedly give this property and the hostess the highest of recommendation.
Gem Cottage was the perfect place for our first stay in this area. Cottage is comfortable and well-equipped and the views from it are lovely. Lots of good walks all around and easy access to a range of places to visit such as Dornoch, Cawdor Castle and the pottery at Tain. Can highly recommend.
The cottage is exactly as it seems on the website. Truly luxurious. Loved the Highland Soap Co. toiletries. Very cosy and lots of walks by the firth right on the doorstep.
Fantastic vacation, surrounded by wonderful scenery. Great walks along Cromarty Firth and Blackrock woods Evanton to wander. A real gem of a cottage. Thanks to Gabrielle and the little touches that made the stay more enjoyable.
This is a beautiful cottage in a quiet location on the Cromarty Firth. Homely luxury. Fluffy white towels and dressing gowns, lovely toiletries, underfloor heating, beautiful bathrooms, well fitted kitchen, comfy bed. We used this as a base for golf and walks is and it didn’t disappoint. Would love to visit again.
We very much enjoyed our stay at "Gem Cottage" It's a great location for discovering and day trips to the highlands.
Everything you need is provided for.
Thanks Gabrielle for cake and biscuits- which my husband devoured.
I stuck to the chilled bottle provided which was a treat!! Comfy
large bed. Will visit again when/if in this area.
We had a super time at Gem Cottage. The property was as beautiful as the photos,
amazingly clean throughout with lovely quality bed linen and towels. The gorgeous Highland toiletries a welcome addition to the luxurious bathrooms.
We had several local days outs, with a walk up to the local Fyrish Monument being a favourite on a cold clear morning - amazing views for miles around.
I would highly recommend staying here , with lots nearby to see and do. Our family can’t wait to return.
Truly a gem, no doubt about it. Everything was as advertised and then some. We really enjoyed the peace, quiet, and picturesque surroundings. Our host, Gabrielle, was extraordinarily helpful providing us with additional suggestions beyond what’s already provided for local, nearby, and day-long excursions to incredible sites and history. Also, going above and beyond by providing a sample of some locally ground coffee, drinks, and other treats really made us feel welcome and at home. Thank you, Gabrielle! We hope to visit with you again! Marc D. and Renée B.
This cottage is a real gem. You can immediately see the accurateness with which the house is arranged. Every room is well-equipped - especially the kitchen and the bathrooms.
The cottage can be found at a quiet place near the sea however the position is very suitable to undertake trips at the area around. We felt very comfortable and would highly recommened this place.
