About this property

Beautiful Roman style villa with stunning private pool and private walled garden

A spacious three bedroom villa with your own large 12 x 8 mtr private pool (with diving board) surrounded by orange and lemon trees Villa Montivicoli is ideal for families or sharing couples who want a little more room. The property has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a washing machine and a dishwasher, home entertainment and wifi. The property benefits from both front and rear gardens, a car port, large shaded gazebo with table and a BBQ, the latter overlooking the pool for those long warm evenings.
Conveniently located 3 kms from the local town of Ceglie with stunning views of the surrounding area and sitting behind electric gates in its own private grounds, Villa Montivicoli has plenty for everyone to do. There is a TV/DVD, stereo sytem, IPod jack and a selection of books and board games so everyone can enjoy themselves. Come and sit by the pool with that glass of wine or cold beer, look across the hillside, smell the citrus fruits in the garden and you can have a hassle free holiday in the warm sunshine.

The town of Ceglie has an historical centre with a Ducal Castle, Cathedral and busy central plaza. There are numerous and very good restaurants and a cookery school. Ostuni, the "Citta Bianca" is just a 20 mins drive away, the beaches 30-60 minutes depending on your preferences.
Villa Montivicoli has no fixed changeover days so you can arrive and depart on any days.

You also have the added option of paying using your credit card or Pay Pal.

Villa Montivicoli is served by two local airports with both international and budget carriers (Ryanair & Easyjet) - Brindisi (45 mins) and Bari (80 mins) are the closest with Naples, where the flights are more frequent and usually cheaper only 3.5 hours drive away.

Lovely house with a great pool
We had a really nice time. The house is also only a 10 minute drive from Ceglie and is a great base to explore Puglia. There are a lot of lovely villages worth seeing within a 20-30 minute drive, and both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas are not more than an hour's drive away. The pool was great and the gazebo offered nice shade for lunch. The kitchen is well-equipped, the living room has DVDs, books, and games (in English), and each room has a fan. We had cable extensions with us so we could charge our devices and I would recommend bringing some, as Italian holiday homes to do not seem to have many electrical outlets in the bedrooms. WiFi and cell reception is a bit slow, but this has been our experience in all houses/areas in Southern Italy in the summertime. Our teenagers downloaded movies/series whilst we were out eating or overnight, so they always had something to entertain them in the evening. Martin and Sharron who manage the house were great and checked up on us regularly to see if we needed anything and supplied us with plenty of tips for eating and sightseeing. We would definitely like to come back!

Could be so much better
The villa itself looks as per the pictures. The villa is set in a neglected large plot. The front garden is not usable, but could be an amazing space. The trees by the pool all need pruning and there are several cactus plants that would be a hazard to small children. The crazy paving around the pool has started to break-up. Several of the pool edging stones are loose. The pool is a great size and very clean. On windy days there were lots of leaves to net out. The sun loungers were comfortable, but difficult to move because of the uneven paving. The gazebo is a great size but the table and chairs are basic plastic so not very comfortable. Also the uneven crazy paving made it difficult to find a position where the table didn’t wobble. The lack of sockets in the bedrooms meant making a choice between, lamp, bug repeller, or fan. The main bathroom is a narrow shower room and whilst the shower is a good size, there is a narrow gap between the wall and the glass screen to squeeze in and out, also there is nowhere close to the shower to hang a towel! The downstairs shower room is an extended understairs cupboard. If you are over 5ft 6ins tall, means you cannot stand up at the toilet or sink without stooping, and you need to duck to get into the shower. You can also see a variety of tools and supplies which are stored in here under the stairs. The kitchen was quite well equipped and we managed to cook several basic meals, as eating out was not possible if you want a drink. No taxis!

Good stay
Pool, fruit trees, fireplace, house all great as are the caretakers. Be advised that while one bathroom is on the bedroom level, the other is on the ground floor and is quite cramped.

About the host

Stella is a retired Principal of an FE College and Howard an organisation consultant. They live in central London with their adult son, Conor - their daugther Alice has her own flat. We enjoy good food and wine and international travel. We have owned Monteviccoli for more than 10 years and love the villa and the area. Puglia is a great place for short road trips and we have driven to Matera, Naples and even Sicily a number of times.

Why they chose this property

A nice mixture of quiet countryside not too far from Ceglie - a good size town with lots of restaurants - and the beaches of the Adriatic/Ionian.

What makes this property unique

The Roman style of the villa is not common in Puglia and is very functional. Ceglie is well placed for so many other attractions across the region: the cliffs and RedBull diving at Polignano, Bari/Brindisi, Ostuni (stunning), the caves of Grotte di Castellana, the trulli of Alborobello, the sassi (cave dwellings) of Matera where the last Bond film was made .............and numerous beaches.
