*New for this year, air conditioning* Beautiful, private & spacious villa.
A spacious three bedroom villa with your own large 12 x 8 mtr private pool (1.0-2.1m deep) with diving board surrounded by orange and lemon trees, Villa Montivicoli is ideal for families or sharing couples who want a little more room. The property has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, a washing machine and a dishwasher, home entertainment and wifi. The property benefits from both front and rear gardens, a car port, large shaded gazebo with table and a BBQ, the latter overlooking the pool for those long warm evenings. Conveniently located 3 kms from the local town of Ceglie with stunning views of the surrounding area and sitting behind electric gates in its own private grounds, Villa Montivicoli has plenty for everyone to do. There is a TV/DVD, stereo sytem, IPod jack and a selection of books and board games so everyone can enjoy themselves. Come and sit by the pool with that glass of wine or cold beer, look across the hillside, smell the citrus fruits in the garden and you can have a hassle free holiday in the warm sunshine.
The town of Ceglie has an historical centre with a Ducal Castle, Cathedral and busy central plaza. There are numerous and very good restaurants and a cookery school. Ostuni, the "Citta Bianca" is just a 20 mins drive away, the beaches 30-60 minutes depending on your preferences. Villa Montivicoli has no fixed changeover days so you can arrive and depart on any days.
You also have the added option of paying using your credit card or Pay Pal.
Villa Montivicoli is served by two local airports with both international and budget carriers (Ryanair & Easyjet) - Brindisi (45 mins) and Bari (80 mins) are the closest with Naples, where the flights are more frequent and usually cheaper only 3.5 hours drive away.

We had a really nice time. The house is also only a 10 minute drive from Ceglie and is a great base to explore Puglia. There are a lot of lovely villages worth seeing within a 20-30 minute drive, and both the Adriatic and Ionian Seas are not more than an hour's drive away. The pool was great and the gazebo offered nice shade for lunch.
The kitchen is well-equipped, the living room has DVDs, books, and games (in English), and each room has a fan. We had cable extensions with us so we could charge our devices and I would recommend bringing some, as Italian holiday homes to do not seem to have many electrical outlets in the bedrooms.
WiFi and cell reception is a bit slow, but this has been our experience in all houses/areas in Southern Italy in the summertime. Our teenagers downloaded movies/series whilst we were out eating or overnight, so they always had something to entertain them in the evening.
Martin and Sharron who manage the house were great and checked up on us regularly to see if we needed anything and supplied us with plenty of tips for eating and sightseeing.
We would definitely like to come back!

Hi Veronica, thank you for your kind review - glad you enjoyed the villa and your holiday. Not sure you were aware, but there are 2 points in each of the large bedrooms - but we will get some mutli point extensions. And thanks for your comments about Sharron and Martin, as the people on the ground they are absolutely invaluable. And you would of course be very welcome to come back anytime. Regards, Howard (owner)
The villa itself looks as per the pictures. The villa is set in a neglected large plot. The front garden is not usable, but could be an amazing space. The trees by the pool all need pruning and there are several cactus plants that would be a hazard to small children. The crazy paving around the pool has started to break-up. Several of the pool edging stones are loose.
The pool is a great size and very clean. On windy days there were lots of leaves to net out. The sun loungers were comfortable, but difficult to move because of the uneven paving.
The gazebo is a great size but the table and chairs are basic plastic so not very comfortable. Also the uneven crazy paving made it difficult to find a position where the table didn’t wobble.
The lack of sockets in the bedrooms meant making a choice between, lamp, bug repeller, or fan. The main bathroom is a narrow shower room and whilst the shower is a good size, there is a narrow gap between the wall and the glass screen to squeeze in and out, also there is nowhere close to the shower to hang a towel!
The downstairs shower room is an extended understairs cupboard. If you are over 5ft 6ins tall, means you cannot stand up at the toilet or sink without stooping, and you need to duck to get into the shower. You can also see a variety of tools and supplies which are stored in here under the stairs.
The kitchen was quite well equipped and we managed to cook several basic meals, as eating out was not possible if you want a drink. No taxis!

Thanks for your review and four stars Neil. Given your rating it seems odd that your comments focus solely negatives and in our view are somewhat harsh. We nonetheless try to act on some of your comments but others are frankly outside our control (e.g. local taxis). You and your family would of course be welcome back any time.
We have just returned from Puglia where we stayed 10 days at the villa. The location is great as it is 10 min from Ceglie where you find lots of great restaurants, supermarket etc. and Martina Franca (another pretty little town) 20 min away. Beautiful Ostuni is also just 20/25 min drive away. Plenty of other towns are within one hour drive - the house is great to use as a base to explore the area.
The beaches near Ostuni are 45 min drive (lido verde etc) and the stunning white beaches and turquoise sea on the Ionian side close to 1 hour (very much worth the extra drive).
Unfortunately the owners had COVID when we arrived so a friend handed us the key and gave us basic instructions. The communication with the owners over Whats App was excellent and we received online lists from Martin with favourite restaurants/beaches etc which we found very helpful.
The pool was quite dirty on arrival which might have been down to a storm or the owner's illness but it was cleaned thoroughly by Martin the following weekend which made a huge difference. This is by far the biggest pool we have ever seen at a rented property. There is also a small jumping board which is fun for kids and adults too. The water level was quite low and the shower at the pool didn't work which was probably due to the water shortage and restrictions in Southern Italy at the time.
Unfortunately the weather was particularly hot when we visited. 39C during the day and 30/29C in the night. Not having air con was tough to bear! The bedrooms have a plug in fan but at this temperature, it doesn't help very much.
The property sits in a big plot of land and it is very peaceful. The gardens in the front and around the pool could be better maintained as they are quite overgrown which is a bit of a shame as they could be stunning.
The house and kitchen are well equipped in case you want to do some cooking. We ate out most nights as the food is just too good to miss. We were missing a kettle and some small bowls for cereals but we used the cups instead.
This property is very peaceful. We had one Saturday night when neighbours had a very loud karaoke party but that was the only 'disturbing' noise we heard during our stay (apart from some dogs barking at night which you have to expect in the country and didn't bother us).
We enjoyed our stay at this villa but the heat especially at night was a problem. I would return but early or late summer. We are missing the star gazing from the balcony already

Marc, thank you for your kind review - very comprehensive. Martin and Sharron are the local managers and do a great job. As you say, their illness hindered the pool cleaning so I'm glad they were able to put that right quickly. The heat has been exceptional this year across the whole of Europe but I'm glad it didn't spoil your stay. We would love to see you back at the villa in the future.

Virginie, thank you for review and your kind words and appreciation of Sharron and Martin who do a great job in welcoming and supporting guests. We’re so pleased you enjoyed Puglia and our villa. Do come back. Regards, Howard
Pool, fruit trees, fireplace, house all great as are the caretakers. Be advised that while one bathroom is on the bedroom level, the other is on the ground floor and is quite cramped.
We returned to stay for a week having previously visited in July 2019. The property and location was just as fantastic as we remembered from our first visit. Communication with Sharron (property manager) is excellent. From initial booking, to arrival and very helpful local knowledge and help with COVID restrictions and restaurant recommendations when we were allowed out throughout our stay. There probably isn't a better place to self isolate for 5 days. The pool is fantastic, villa perfectly equipped for a family stay (we did more cooking at the villa this time round), but everything you need for a relaxing holiday in this beautiful part of Italy. Flew to Brindisi this time rather than Bari and would recommend if you can get the direct flights. Very quick through security and 40 min drive to the villa. Many thanks for having us and hope to be back soon. Best wishes, Terence, Anouska & Phelix (aged 9)

Thank you Terence, Anouska & Phelix for your lovely review. It was a pleasure to have you return this year to stay with us again and we're very pleased you had a great stay after finally getting here! Maybe see you next year.
Merci

Mickael, thank you for your kind review. We’re glad you enjoyed your stay and found Martin and Sharron so helpful – they’re a great team. Sorry to hear about the dog, this summer has been exceptionally hot and I can only apologise that your sleep was disturbed. Regards, Howard

We stayed at this beautiful property (2 adults and our 7 yrear old son) at the beginning of the school holidays for 10 nights. From the initial booking communication from the property managers (Sharron & Martin) was fantastic. On arrival at Bari Airport, we called Martin to say we had arrived early and he was very accommodating and met us at the property for an earlier check in. The Villa is stunning and the pool is absolutely fantastic. The Villa has everything a family would need for a very comfortable stay in this beautiful part of Puglia. Exceptionally well equipped kitchen, DVDs and books. The inside of the Villa is very nice, but the outside space is where we spent the majority of our time in the lovely landscaped terrace and pool. To be fair we did not do much cooking as Ceglie has some amazing restaurants which are very good value. We did a trip to Ostuni, but felt it was too "touristy" ! :-) so mostly went out in Ceglie which is a 5-10 min drive. Also, did a few trips to the VAAR beach club in Pelone which has a very nice private beach and pool. During our stay we had a bit of a freak thunderstorm and power cut. Martin was fantastic and sorted out everything despite having to contend with another property where a tree had fallen into the pool. Our first time to Ceglie and can't recommend this property highly enough. Thank you for everything and hope to return soon. Terence, Anouska & Phelix
Positief:
- ruim mooi huis, goed geëquipeerd
- prachtig groot zwembad!
- leuke zitjes op terras
- uitstekend management (Sharron & Martin)!
Great location and fantastic pool although unfortunately no cushions for sun loungers which was very unusual and we had to buy some locally which we have left for next guests . Martin and Sharon were really helpful and we had a fantastic holiday. Location was excellent for site seeing and very peaceful located among olive groves. Great restaurants locally in Ceglie.

Ceglie Messapica villa
This is a lovely villa, well maintained and cared for. It comes with a pool, which is fairly rare in this part of Puglia. Close to Ceglie, historic town with lots of great places to eat and a well stocked supermarket on the edge of town, ten minutes from the villa.
There's also a lido within walking distance of the villa, with a bar and restaurant.
There's a big walled garden, useful for the kids to run round in or get some extra shade.
Ostuni and Cistercino are arguably the best of many towns nearby and well worth at least one visit.
I'd recommend this villa and we'll be booking again.

About the host
Hosted by Sharron Wallis
Stella is a retired Principal of an FE College and Howard an organisation consultant. They live in central London with their adult son, Conor - their daugther Alice has her own flat. We enjoy good food and wine and international travel. We have owned Monteviccoli for more than 10 years and love the villa and the area. Puglia is a great place for short road trips and we have driven to Matera, Naples and even Sicily a number of times.
Why they chose this property
A nice mixture of quiet countryside not too far from Ceglie - a good size town with lots of restaurants - and the beaches of the Adriatic/Ionian.
What makes this property unique
The Roman style of the villa is not common in Puglia and is very functional. Ceglie is well placed for so many other attractions across the region: the cliffs and RedBull diving at Polignano, Bari/Brindisi, Ostuni (stunning), the caves of Grotte di Castellana, the trulli of Alborobello, the sassi (cave dwellings) of Matera where the last Bond film was made .............and numerous beaches.
