About this property

The Haven, a charming cottage in Swaledale, in the Yorkshire Dales, dog-friendly

As its name implies, the Haven is a lovely cottage to retreat to after a day's strenuous hiking over the beautiful nearby hills and moors. In Gunnerside and recently modernised, but retaining lovely 200 year old Swaledale architectural features such as beamed and boarded ceilings and stone flagged floors, The Haven is wonderfully comfortable and welcoming, and is dog-friendly. An unspoilt character Dales cottage, it nevertheless benefits from modern conveniences such as underfloor central heating and a log-burning stove in the living room, with comfortable sofas and a stone fireplace. The Yarmoury kiln is very close. Whilst the strict cancellation policy remains in place, if govt regulations mean guests are not allowed to visit, a full refund will be offered. Week bookings are Saturday to Saturday. Note, please send an Enquiry instead of Reservation Request (cheaper for you).
The dining kitchen is well-equipped, and the back door leads out to the rear gravelled garden with garden furniture.
Upstairs are two roomy bedrooms, a double at the front of the house, and a twin overlooking the rear garden.
The bathroom has a shower over the bath, with basin and WC. The cottage is charmingly decorated and furnished and a lovely place for a Dales holiday.
With two private gardens, you can catch the sun at any time of day, or snuggle up inside and relax amid the wonderful scenery of the Yorkshire Dales! Free wifi, dogs welcome at no extra charge. Sorry, no smoking.

About the host

I was born and brought up at Heugh Farm, between Gunnerside and Muker, then went to music college in Glasgow, before moving to London to be a freelance French horn player. But the call of Swaledale became too much for me, so after 20 years, I returned home and set up a local holiday cottage agency.

Why they chose this property

I let The Haven out through my agency for its previous owners, so when they decided to sell, I was loath to let it go to anyone else, as it's such a comfortable, homely and attractive cottage, warm and cosy in winter, cool and welcoming in the heat of summer.
