Loved this place.Very private, very clean, and every amenity you could think of.Plus the Bay is in your backyard. My family enjoyed it and would definitely rent again.
As always, our stay at Rhumbline was great! We even had an issue with our fridge and it was replaced within HOURS. So impressed! Thank you for another great family vacation!
We highly recommend this location. The house was clean, has everything you need, and great amenities. We hope to come back and spend several more days exploring parts of Maine.
This was our 2nd visit to Rhumbline. We had everything we needed for our week in Maine. The house was comfortable and had things to do even if you didn't leave the property. The drive to Bar Harbor/Acadia from the house wasn't bad at all. Very happy with our stay!
This was a beautiful home on beautiful property, which had many amenities. We loved the nautical theme throughout the house. It really captures the essence of Maine! We would definitely recommend this house to others.
If you enjoy quiet stays away from all the traffic, congestion, and noise then you will love this place like we did. Beautiful, extremely well appointed, home with fire pit, nice shoreline, and away from light noise of near by towns so that you are able to see an amazing array of stars and on a good night the Milky Way. House is so well stocked with all you need and all the things you didn’t know you needed. We couldn’t have asked for better and can not wait to stay here again.
My wife and I had a wonderful time in the Rumbline house exploring all the regional attractions in costal Maine. The house seemed much larger on the inside than it appears on the outside. We wouldn't hesitate to rent it again.
The Rhumbline did not disappoint. Every need was anticipated. Our group of 6 was very comfortable and we had plenty of space to spread out and come together. We enjoyed cooking inside and grilling. The bay is wonderful! And we loved the “points of interest” binders.
We had such a wonderful time staying at Rhumb Line. Everything you could possibly need is here. Just show up with some clothes and you'll be good to go. And you won't even need that many clothes because there's a washer and dryer. The house is beautifully maintained, and the property is as well. I promise you'll be satisfied with your stay here. Impossible not to be.
We had a wonderful week with our family at this beautifully decorated, exceptionally clean, home! The location was perfect for our visits to Acadia and some small towns in the area. The home is surrounded by trees and water so we did not have to worry about kids disturbing the neighbors. The children loved playing on the shoreline and in the water, even though it was a bit chilly. Each room, including the basement, had its own full bathroom. The closets in the upstairs bedrooms were huge. So much so that we were able to use a pack and play (supplied on-site) in one of them as sleeping space for the two-year-old. The welcome gifts were a thoughtful gesture and much appreciated. The caretaker was extremely responsive. We would definitely stay here again, if in the area!
We throughly enjoyed our stay here! The home was fully stocked and the welcome gift was a nice touch. I wish we would have realized earlier that one kitchen trash bin was for garbage and the other was for recycle. We combined it all together… oops. The lower level was amazing with an air hockey table, pool table, bar, chess/checkers, cornhole, puzzles, games, sectional sofa, etc. We bought firewood and enjoyed the fire pit in the evenings and the steps down to the bay in the mornings. The home had everything we needed and more!
We had a wonderful time but were so busy hiking and
enjoying Acadia and Bar Harbor we didn't get to fully
enjoy the house. It is a beautiful home with 2 full master
suites with their own bathrooms as well as another room
with bunkbeds and a private bathroom. The kitchen was
well supplied, the couches were very comfortable after long days of hiking. There is also a fantastic basement
well furnished with games and a large TV--but we never
got down there.
The location was private and quiet but very convenient with good dining options in Ellsworth (15 min) and about 45 min drive to Acadia.
Good internet, back up generator (here during the Hurricane), and very responsive host and caretaker.
We highly recommend this property and hope to return!
Our family of 6 came from three states to reconnect, get refreshed, shop, and enjoy nature. The house was a perfect fit. All of had comfortable bedrooms with our own baths. We had lots of space. And we truly enjoyed the trip down to the bay each morning to see how things changed overnight.
We had a fuse go out and the property caretaker came right out. This level of care was evident throughout the property.
We chose this home because of it’s location near Acadia. We didn’t know about the other quaint towns nearby.
Overall, we all agreed that this was a great house for a vacation. We all took away cherished memories.
As in ALL the other reviews, EVERYTHING about Rhumb Line is exquisite, extraordinary, and just perfect in every single way. I always like to start with cleanliness since the lack of has been a big reason why we don't travel a lot. This place is METICULOUSLY CLEAN! You will feel as if you walked through your own front door when you arrive. It immediately felt like home <3 We are a family of 4 with 2 BIG boys (17 & 22) and we all had plenty of room to stretch out. The house is incredibly well appointed. Cooking supplies, cleaning supplies, towels/linens. We literally only had to bring the steak and lobstah...everything else needed to prepare a gourmet meal is there (pots, utensils, spices, you name it).
If you are looking for a place to stay that reminds you why screen time isn't all its cracked up to be, this is your place. The owners (who were very attentive) did a great job of making their place a summer retreat. There is a gazebo that provides a shady place to read, a hammock to take a nap in, a fire pit where you can make smores and the game of bags, a pool table and air hockey for some friendly competition. Not to mention the stairs down to the beach where you can walk along the shoreline - all things we did, BTW. (that is not to say they aren't set up for TV watching if you want, but we never got around to that!). The setting is also ideal. Quite and secluded but not far from Ellsworth for groceries and restaurants and minutes from wonderful hiking trails. We went to Acadia and hiked as well, but honestly loved the local hikes more. The house had everything we needed including 3 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms so there was plenty of room to spread out. I would highly recommend a stay!
Immaculate, spacious home easily accommodated our two families - 4 adults, 5 teens & tweens. Pool table and air hockey a hit. Loved the fire pit and stroll to the bay for the fabulous sunrise or an occasional glimpse of the bald eagles nesting nearby. (steep walk, would be difficult for anyone physically handicapped).
Plenty of room In the kitchen/LR for family games. Incredibly well-stocked kitchen with everything from cookie sheets to Pyrex pans, coffee pot, blender, etc. Just missing a rubber spatula! Mattresses very comfortable, lovely high quality, soft bedding.
Only suggestion - some sort of blind or window covering for the walk out basement doors to keep out the 445 sunrise; the kids were unable to sleep down there but were well accommodated in the spacious bunk room.
30-45 minute ride to fabulous Acadia hiking with many great eateries and a terrific bakery along the way. Would love to return to continue our adventure!
This is a lovely, well-maintained and thoughtfully furnished property. The kitchen is extensively equipped for those who are so inclined, the beds are quite comfortable and the bathrooms tastefully laid out and supplied. The location for us was perfect, as we have friends and "go-to" places in East Blue Hill, Brooklin and Stonington, and of course, a quick drive to Pugnuts Ice Cream Shop is ideal. We spent most mornings enjoying coffee on the deck watching the adult and juvenile bald eagles, some of which roosted and vocalized in plain view in the trees right behind the house.
Two noncritical issues about the house: First, although the stairs to the beach are well-built, the climb is long and steep, and the few muddy spots were slippery- an issue for those (such as myself) for whom a slip or fall could be problematic. Second, there was a clear odor of sulfur in the tap water, indicating the presence of sulfur-reducing bacteria (not harmful!), likely in the well from all the rain this summer. Importantly, when contacted about this, the agent (Cheri) responded immediately and contacted the owners.
Fantastic accommodations! Loved having a king bed on the 1st floor for family who couldn't climb too many stairs. The house is in close proximity to many Maine coastal sites, the very popular places as well as the those that are more off the beaten trail! We would not hesitate to stay here again.
