About this property

4 bedroom Cotswold cottage near Stow-on-the-Wold - Old Brewery House

Located in a secluded valley close to the classic Cotswold town of Stow-on-the-Wold, Old Brewery House is a terrific Cotswold retreat with a real difference, sleeping up to 8 guests in four spacious ensuite bedrooms. Old Brewery House is located within the grounds of the Donnington Brewery (hence the name!) which in 1827 was bought as a working mill by Thomas Arkell, his descendant Richard Arkell founded the Brewery here in 1865. Inside the property, much of the original charm and character has been retained and many of the rooms enjoy stunning views across the gardens with roaming peacocks and the beautiful private lake with ducks and swans. The open-plan kitchen/dining room is well equipped and there are 2 living rooms, so plenty of space! The four bedrooms can be configured into doubles or twins (on request) which makes this property flexible for all parties. Oh, and the beer produced is of course available to purchase from Andy, the onsite manager!

For larger groups, Old Brewery house can be booked with Waterhead Barn with a maximum occupancy of 21

Great location for a friends' get together in a beautiful setting

The Old Brewery House was a great location for our annual friends' get together. The grounds were beautiful & the brewery next door added interest together with beer to sample! The house was warm, spacious and comfortable providing a good base to explore the local area; Stow, Moreton, the Slaughters & the stunning Bourton House Garden. We also went a little further afield to enjoy a crafting day at Lechlade Craft Barn & a tour of Oxford University colleges. Re previous reviews: the aga was frustrating to use due to the time it took to heat up but we persevered & the controls were straightforward to understand (thanks to Andy's clear explanation). The shower pressures could have been better but we managed. The source of the many wasps in the attic room needs to be dealt with as, although they didn't bother us, others might not be comfortable with them. Although we agree with previous reviews that the House is not 5 star, there were many features that enabled 6 old friends to enjoy our time together.

Brewery House is the best!!

We were celebrating our 65wedding anniversary and took our children for a long weekend. We had a delightful stay. Loved the location, the house, spacious accommodation. Couldn't fault it in any way. Andrew ,the manager was extremely helpful in every way, even caught a very large trout in the pond !! We BBQ it and it was delicious. Our was in his element!! Lots of space for him to explore and run around. Peacocks weren't too noisy! Would hopefully return at sometime in the future. Beautiful area to explore. Yvonne Jones

Great location, Old Brewery House was quirky and comfortable. The grounds were fabulous

We found the Old Brewery House a great place to stay. A very old building, the accommodation was quirky and comfortable. For a working brewery it wasn't noisy. The surrounding grounds were peaceful and beautiful. The resident peacocks were very tame and entertaining.

Accommodation as advertised

The accommodation was as advertised and although we had some initial minor issues these were quickly sorted by Andy. The location was ideal for us as we were walking the Diamond Way and this accommodation is quite central to the walk route. The location, at the brewery, makes this a very pleasant and interesting place to stay.

Perfect Spot to Stay in the Cotswolds

The old brewery house was an excellent place to spend a week in the Cotswolds. Everything we wanted to do and see was only a short drive away, and the property was very nice. The house had plenty of space for all of us and the kitchen was very well appointed. Andy was very helpful when we arrived and quick to respond to any questions. Our 1-year old daughter especially loved all the friendly peacocks.

Quiet retreat in the heart of the Cotswolds

Old Brewery House is nestled in picturesque quiet countryside next to an old working brewery. You have all modern conveniences in the midst of history. The brewery is well worth a visit where the brewer himself talks you through the process which has changed very little for 150 years. It is ideal for long walks or short drives to nearby picture postcard villages. An ideal spot.

Lovely place for a mother's day weekend

Really lovely, spacious house set in the gorgeous brewery grounds. Lots of room for eight adults and two dogs. The local area is beautiful and the peacocks add to the charm. Only, and in all respects tiny, downside is that the kitchen isn't equipped to cook for all the people in the house. There are enough plates and the like, but the hob is pretty tough to use and there aren't enough big pans/baking dishes etc. Otherwise a really wonderful place and in a part of the world we'd love to return to.

A beautiful cottage away from it all in the heart of the Cotswolds

The cottage was very spacious and all bedrooms were large and had en-suites. The kitchen was well equipped and we found the aga fine, especially if you left it warm. Andy was more than helpful, especially with a water issue, he quickly came down and put this right. There is a little damp in one of the downstairs rooms that is not particularly nice to look at, but we had an amazing weekend making friends with peacocks, swans and geese!

Spacious with Rustic Charm in the Heart of the Cotswolds

This special property easily accommodates two families with children. The en-suite bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and the large kitchen/dining combo is great for cooking and socializing. There are two comfortable living spacious for adults and children that are great for winding down or playing games at night. The outdoor space is amazing. There is a level pitch for croquet (equipment included!). We hiked around the farm along the mill, lake, river, horses, and sheep. It's an easy and quick driving access to Stow for anything you need, from groceries to fresh coffee, bread, cheese, and shopping in the charming village. On-site Donnington ales are spot on after spending the day outdoors. And the proximity to the Cotswold attractions are limitless from this central location. Finally, the property manager is friendly, helpful and welcoming and responds immediately to any inquiries. We shall return!

Lovely quiet location

Four of us stayed for a long weekend and we absolutely loved the property, the peacocks, the huge trout in the lake and the peace and quiet. The kitchen is well equipped with dishwasher and two fridges - do bring kitchen roll, apart from that we had everything we needed. The bedrooms are spacious, each with an en-suite, good levels of light. Comfortable beds, sufficient towels. Lots of hot water and the heating works very well. This is an old rustic farmhouse full of charm. We loved the wood burner, flooring, the cellar and the generous proportions - very roomy, exceptionally comfortable. Our only niggle was an out of date TV arrangement, with no streaming available. TV controls didn’t work so a review and an update is needed for both the TVs in the two sitting rooms.

Needs some TLC

It was in a great location, a beautiful spot amongst nature and an easy walk into the local town of Stow on the Wold. This was a yearly friend's outing and coincided with two of the groups birthdays. The house was large and roomy and the kitchen was well-equipped, but sadly NOT a five star accommodation and the house, although beautiful needs a LOT of attention. Not wishing to be negative as it really has so much potential but we feel it needs some investment.........the cost of the property for the weekend did not reflect the standard that was expected, when compared to other similar properties we have stayed in previously. None of the showers worked in the bedrooms - the water pressure was so low with just a trickle coming out and the water was either boiling hot or cold. The tv in the lounge was incorrectly connected and we had to switch the cables - batteries were missing from the remotes. The kitchen tv was not working and the cupboard had used tissues and a LOT of dust. The kitchen island was very sticky inspire of being wiped down several times. Some of the beds and furnishings in various rooms were stained and the carpet in the main lounge was very smelly. Lots of damp stains around the house on the ceilings and on the walls. Lots of clutter in various cupboards - just thrown in. Toilets in bathrooms in need of a deep clean. Curtains hanging off of poles - just attention to detail....... We did have a great time away but a nice hot shower would have made quite a difference!!

Lovely location, nicely situated to visit many Cotswold attractions.

Our host Andy was very helpful. The Old Brewery house was in a beautiful location ideally situated for visiting many Cotswold attractions. The rooms were functional and clean with only one issue, the water pressure was not good in the en-suite rooms and it made showering a bit difficult.

A wonderful short break

We had a wonderful short break in Old Brewery House. It is very spacious, we were a party of 3 couples and a baby and we all had good sized rooms and ensuites. The kitchen was large and well equipped. I did take my own surface cleaner which was not provided. Pillows were poor so I would take my own if I went again! I thoroughly recommend the tour of the Brewery in a Friday.

Family weekend away

We had a lovely long weekend stay at The Old Brewery house. The location and setting were both perfect. The house was lovely and warn day and night, used the log burner which gave out a warming glow. The Arga in the kitchen worked well which warmed the house up too. We did some lovely walks from the house. A circular walk to Longborough which has a nice pub and great Sunday roast, walked back via Donnington. Andy at the brewery was worth his weight in gold in helping us sort out a car breakdown. Thanks again Andy for your help and local knowledge, hope to return.

70th birthday party

what a lovely spot lost in its own valley, with the brewery and stabling. the house has a lovely character with slightly wonky floors and doors ,the rooms are generous, the huge kitchen with the Everhot ovens was the hub of our party. the warm downstairs boot and cloakroom sorted all the walking gear and the belfast sink was perfect for washing dirty dogs.
