About this property

A sudeley castle cottage that sleeps 8 guests in 4 bedrooms

Archers is a beautifully decorated and furnished historic, Cotswold-stone country cottage, formed from the renovation and joining of two cottages, one built in the 18th Century and the other built in the 19th Century. From the luxury wallpaper to the gorgeous objet d'art and artwork, all carefully chosen by Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe (who oversaw the renaissance of Sudeley Castle in the 20th Century), Archers will perfectly suit a group of friends or an extended family.

The cottage has a wrap-around gravel border, which opens out at the rear into a pretty garden, with mature trees and a patio with BBQ and outside seating. The garden runs down to Beesmoor Brook, which feeds into the River Isbourne running through Winchcombe.

Ground Floor
Porch:
Enter Archers through the front door, protected from the elements by a pretty wooden porch, and head into the hallway with its original stone flooring. Guests will find this is a handy place to remove outdoor footwear and hang coats.

Kitchen:
The dual aspect, fully equipped kitchen looks out over the front of the property and to the rear garden, with its view to Beesmoor Brook. The kitchen features a range-style Cuisinemaster oven with three ovens and a five-ring hob. A refectory-style table comfortably seats four for breakfast or serves as an additional preparation space. A dishwasher, microwave, washer/dryer is provided along with all the utensils, food preparation equipment, crockery and glassware needed for a luxury, self-catered stay.

Dining Room:
The cottage's original flagstone floor, sturdy wooden beams and inglenook fireplace lend great character to the Dining Room, which comfortably seats eight around a long wooden table. The wood burner-effect fireplace provides a subtle background heat and gentle glow - without overheating diners!

Downstairs Cloakroom:
Under the stairs, off the Dining Room, is a handy downstairs toilet and wash basin.

Living Room:
The centrepiece of Archers is the beautifully bright yet cosy and stylish Living Room, with its wood burner fireplace, soft primrose coloured walls and delightful objets d'art and books chosen by Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe. The Living Room is furnished with two sink-in sofas, two armchairs, footstools and a coffee table with a wide-ranging collection of colourful reference books. To one side is a desk with a chair and table lamp, making it an ideal place to make notes, do some research or write a postcard. A card table is located under the window overlooking the garden, and large, flat screen TV is positioned above the fireplace. Starter logs and kindling are provided for guests' first fire. (Additional logs may be purchased from general stores and supermarkets in Winchcombe).

First Floor
Landing:
The fully carpeted landing is decorated with a rich blue, ornate, William Morris-style wallpaper, and features contemporary and antique paintings on its walls. There is a full-length mirror and large storage cupboard - ideal for placing luggage and where guests will find the travel cot, stairgate and highchair. At one end of the landing there is a one step up to Bedrooms 1 and 2, and, at the other end, one step up to Bedroom 3.

Bedroom 1:
At the far end of the Landing, straight ahead from the top of the stairs, is the ensuite master bedroom with king-size bed. The bedroom, with its restful duck-egg blue walls and accents of taupe, overlooks Castle Street from the bedroom and the cottage courtyard entrance from the ensuite shower room. The room is furnished with a king-size double bed, bedside tables, with touch-sensitive reading lamps, a double wardrobe, a luggage rack, antique armchair and a chest of drawers with a large mirror above. The ensuite has a large walk-in shower, with central and hand-held shower heads, a toilet, wash basin with mirror (and shaver point) and a heated towel rail. (Note: there is one very small step down into Bedroom 1 from the Landing).

Bedroom 2:
The soft-yellow walls and contrasting exposed beams make this bedroom a delightfully calm and inviting room, featuring a super king-size bed, bedside tables and touch-sensitive reading lamps, a double wardrobe, luggage rack and antique chair. The ensuite has a large walk-in shower, with central and hand-held shower heads, a toilet, wash basin with mirror (and shaver point) and a heated towel rail. Bedroom 2 can be set up as a twin on request.

Bedroom 3:
The creamy ochre walls of Bedroom 3 create a warm and inviting ambience. This bedroom has views out over the garden towards Winchcombe through the Velux window, set in the sloping celling with its original oak beam. Bedroom 3 features a super king-size bed, hand painted, antique bedside tables and touch-sensitive reading lamps, luggage rack and an antique armchair. Bedroom 3 can be set up as a twin on request.

A second door leads through to a dressing area, with double wardrobe, to another door that leads into the bathroom shared with Bedroom 4.

Bedroom 4:
Archers' twin bedroom features twin beds on original Victorian metal bed frames with a shared bedside chest of drawers and ornate reading lamp. A striking block print wallpaper with hares and thrushes creates a feature behind the beds while a rocking chair beckons you in to sit and rest. (Note the beds are slightly higher than beds on standard frames.)

A second door leads through to a dressing area, with double wardrobe, to another door that leads into the bathroom shared with Bedroom 3.

Family Bathroom:
Sitting conveniently between Bedroom 3 and 4, the private, Shared Bathroom features a large walk-in shower, with central and hand-held shower heads, a corner bath with hand-held shower for hair washing, a toilet, wash basin with vanity unit and extendable mirror and a heated towel rail.

Outside
From the front of the cottage, a gravelled border wraps around the side of the cottage (overlooking Castle Street) to the rear where guests have access to a large garden laid to lawn, with mature trees and a patio with outdoor seating for eight. A path leads down to a wooden picket fence, which borders Beesmoor Brook that feeds the River Isbourne as it runs through Winchcombe. Please note that the fencing provides a secure barrier to prevent children from accessing the brook. However, the side garden is raised and open, which is a potential fall hazard for young children. Therefore, please ensure children are not left unattended in the garden.

Great stay for a wedding at Sudeley Castle

Stayed here for a weekend as part of a wedding at Sudeley Castle. Ideally located and very comfortable. My only small piece of feedback was that the beds were very hard and could have done with a topper mattress. Otherwise brilliant stay and would highly recommend to anyone.

Archers at Sudeley

We love the setting of the Sudeley cottages and the access to the castle. Very comfortable at Archers cottage and ideal for a family group. Winchcombe has good pubs and great Indian restaurant. Cottage well equipped- only suggestion we have is that for size of cottage and number of guests then a larger fridge would be useful. We will return next year!

Daughter’s wedding

I stayed at Archers cottage with family of varying ages for my daughter’s wedding. The cottage was clean and tidy on arrival. There was a starter pack of essentials which was great. Fully equipped kitchen. Fresh towels in all rooms which were all good sizes. Plenty of bathrooms. Would highly recommend.

Good and bad

The cottage was clean with a well equipped kitchen, nice bathrooms, warm and comfortable. However the bed in the ‘yellow bedroom’ was very uncomfortable the mattress had lumps and springs coming through although the maintenance guys tried to remedy this it needs to be changed for future use. Also the garden was overgrown and I had to request that the lawn be cut. Dog mess found even after that. Clearly in need of some garden maintenance both front and rear.

All is well - and good

Everything about Archers Cottage was terrific, and the advertised features were completely accurate, very comfortable for our family group of six. The only fault was the condition of the garden furniture: It will soon need to be replaced. It was especially helpful to have a full notebook of user instructions for the electrical appliances - especially for Americans whose appliances are often different.

Return stay for the third time!

Archer Cottage is a beautiful place to stay at Sudely Castle and perfect for our group of friends attending Fantasy Forest. The large garden with barbecue, lots of space and en-suite bathrooms makes it perfect for our group so we can spend social time together without getting under each others feet all the time! We have noticed a few items of wear and tear on our third stay, which I hope will be addressed having sent separate feedback, when we return next year. The only slight niggles, which I see have been addressed in other reviews, are the very small fridge and hard mattresses. Otherwise the place is perfect!

Great stay

We used the cottage as accommodation for our bridal party before my wedding and we were so pleased with how clean, quaint and lovely the cottage was. The kitchen was well equipped and the information regarding check in and check out was great. Only thing that could make it easier would be more precise address to give to taxis as they did struggle to locate the cottage.

A beautiful cottage in an historic Cotswold village

A perfect stay - great layout for a group of friends, particularly ground floor with the generous linked kitchen, dining and living areas. Very close to the village centre, and several long walks from the door step. Everything you could need - very comfrtable and relaxing.

Lovely cottage in a perfect spot

The house is clean, well equipped and tastefully furnished. It also has a large attractive garden. It is located a very short walk from both Winchcombe High Street and Sudeley Castle, to which entrance is free if you stay here. Both Winchcombe and the castle are charming. A lovely place to stay, with much to see in the area. Highly recommended.

A fantastic house for a weekend with a group of friends.

The house was perfect for a weekend celebration. In particular there was lots of space downstairs so we could spread out. A well equipped kitchen with plenty of plates, cutlery etc was a bonus as we ate in a couple of times. We went out walking in wild weather and on our return felt that a shoe rack and more coat hooks in the hallway would have been really helpful. The only downside; we felt the quality of the bedding and bedlinen could be improved to make the bedrooms more luxurious.

Beautiful cottages

We love staying in those cottages , have been for each Fantasy Forest Festivals, from smaller ones to the larger ones. They are beautiful and the location is ideal. Very practical with parking, love the BBQ and garden . Each decors beautiful and in keeping . Only little negative, for a cottage for 8 people such a tiny fridge, same size as a cottage for 4 people, also there is never enough loo rolls but at least we remembered to bring some along . Last feedback : miroirs, one in each room would be so useful, especially for the rooms that share a bathroom . Stunning place to stay and cannot wait to return . Checking in is also super easy.

we were a group of 8 people. Everybody loved the place. Very handy for the town and castle. Lovely spacious kitchen, well equipped. The tickets to visit the Castle was a bonus. Everyone enjoyed and had a great time. Definitely come back. Thank you

Excellent would book again

A most pleasing welcome with the milk, coffee, tea, biscuits, washing up liquid, it’s all there ready and just feels so warm and friendly to walk into after a long journey. Disappointed unable to use air fryer. I think one should be put in the kitchen. It did take a long time to cook for so many people. Wanted to spend time with family not in the kitchen. The garden needed more maintenance. There were many brambles in the garden and we had to watch the children. The garden furniture was the worst part of the cottage. The furniture was old, very uncomfortable and one chair was broken. We all loved eating in the garden and sitting out until quite late. We had great weather and it was idillic to sit there. Overall we had an absolutely fantastic time. I just felt for the money we paid, those extra touches would have been addressed. Everyone of us did have an absolutely wonderful and exceptional week and we all look forward to seeing you again next year. Thank you

Archers at Sudeley Castle April 2025

We had a most enjoyable stay at Archers. The cottage is spacious and extremely well equipped; it had everything we needed for our visit. The cottage is warm, homely and clean with plenty of hot water. The provision of a coffee machine and pods was a bonus. Accessibility to the castle is a short, pleasant walk across a field, close to the cottage. The village of Winchcombe is a 2-3 minute walk down the lane. Archers is very convenient for exploring the Cotswolds and was always lovely to come back to. I would thoroughly recommend a stay here.

Weekend break at Archers

The property is part of a small development very close to the town centre. Access was easy and the house was lovely and warm when we arrived. Kitchen facilities good and downstairs rooms comfortable. The bedrooms were nicely furnished. I found the beds quite hard personally but the pillows were good as were the showers. I marked cleanliness down as the windows were quite dirty and the shared bathroom had clearly had a leak from the roof which we were unaware of at time of booking. We visited in November so were unable to make use of the outside area. The garden has a pathway through it to the main road from the car park so itis not entirely private and may cause some issues for dog owners

Great stay, we hope to return.

From the moment we entered the cottage we loved it. It was very clean, beautifully decorated and in a great location. The rooms were plenty big enough for our group of 7 friends and the kitchen had everything we could have wished for, the welcome pack for an initial cup of coffee or tea was most welcome as were the logs for the log burner (with a shop selling more kindling and logs within a 3 minute walk). The beds were very comfortable and the showers terrific, we could not fault it. My wife and I hope to return to one of the smaller cottages next summer to take advantage of seeing Sudeley Castle and Gardens which unfortunately are closed from October to March. Overall a great stay at a reasonable price.
