The Harbert Hideaway met all of our needs for an extended family gathering. It was comfortable, clean and conveniently located to the beach and other great sites!
We had a great stay! This is one of the best kitchens with good pans and knives. The beds are comfy. The couches are nice. It’s a wonderful place and the owner is LOVELY

Hello Abigail,
Thank you for your lovely review! I am always so pleased when my guests enjoy their stay and appreciate the house. So happy you and your family had such perfect weather for the Apple Cider Century. (I still need to sell my many bikes and will be working on that soon. Maybe I should wait until Spring...ummm.)
Hope to see you again. Before you know it your little girl will be riding her own bike right next to you and your husband! They grow up quick, believe me!

One of the best. Clean, bright, comfortable, stylish, had all the kitchen wares anyone could ever need, and top brands of appliances.Close to an excellent bakery. Near beaches, bike path.
Wonderful place Easy getting into home, place was immaculate, had a wonderfully stocked kitchen with all necessary things for cooking- even the knives were sharp!Beds are comfy. Lovely spacious area for gathering inside and out. The owner is a kind and gracious host. Beach is convenient walk down the street. Would love to do it again.
The house and yard are beautiful, and it’s obvious that a lot of care and love are put into it. It’s a short walk from the beach, bike trail, and bakery. The host is fantastic and so thoughtful. We had a relaxing long weekend with family and a very comfortable stay. We stay in Harbert and the surrounding area at least once a year, and this is by far our best experience and favorite place!
We loved our stay here. The property is a close drive to everything fun, but secluded and peaceful on a wooded lot. The home itself is comfortable, clean, and welcoming. Comfy beds, well stocked kitchen, and many thoughtful touches throughout the home. Owners were lovely and easy to work with.
This home was very comfortable!! The beds in every room were very nice so a good night’s sleep was had by all. The husband and wife who own the home were very kind and responsive. They allowed us use several bikes and all their beach equipment. Truly a great stay.
Lovely home in great location. They have anticipated every need. We came with our son, his wife, and their infant daughter. And our small dog. Everyone was comfortable, happy, easy to care for. A great property for a lovely weekend.
This is the second time we've stayed here. Love this house! The beautiful front and rear deck are great for our pup and outdoor family meals. The location to Harbert Road beach, Swedish Bakery, and Cafe Gulistan is very walkable. Quiet neighborhood and nicely furnished home. Our host Karen was very responsive. Overall, loved our stay again!
We had a terrific time at the beach house. The owners were kind and very helpful throughout the entire process. The home was comfortable and spacious, and had everything we needed, and then some. Nice proximity to the beach and other attractions in the area.

Liked: Cleanliness, check-in, communication
Easy check-in. We were a group of 9 and could have used more plates & silverware, but the dishwasher kept up with our needs! Wi-Fi was good. It was further from the beach than we thought, even after reading all the other reviews. But there was free parking so we could drive everyone and all our beach gear there and park. It was a bit odd that the host lived in the same building. Although she said she lives next door, it was really part of the same building and we could hear other through the wall in the master bedroom.
This property was perfect for meeting up with family for the week. Home is located in a quiet neighborhood but not far from the action around Berrien County or surrounding areas. Harbert Road Beach access was ideal. A short 10 minute walk or 5 minute bike ride (bikes provided by owner was a huge plus). Home has everything you need, updated and super clean. The front and rear deck/patio was perfect space for enjoying the beautiful wooded surroundings.
Thank you.
Karen has such a beautiful home here. A perfect location on a wooded street, just a half mile from a gorgeous Lake Michigan beach. Close to everything in SW Michigan. The decor of the home is both beautiful and comfortable. Each bedroom has a subtle theme which I didn’t even realize until after a few days. The decorating is very fun that way.Karen is such a kind and caring host. She was quickly and thoroughly responsive to my questions, and is very close by if any issues arise. I appreciate her policy of allowing dogs, that made things so much easier for me. I would return to stay here in a heartbeat if the opportunity arises again. It’s really a very nice home.
Very clean and even had spices in the cabinet. The private beach wasn’t available because the beach washed away this past winter. We had to go to the public beach which were crowded. I chose this location for the private beach, I was disappointed that we didn’t have that option.

The township beach to which we have a pass has rebuilt their stairs, so the lack of an access to a semi-private near-by beach is no longer the case. We have been very transparent about the beach situation with all our guests.

Exceptional Vacation Home!!
This was without a doubt the cleanest and nicest vacation home we have ever stayed in. The home itself is spacious bright and beautiful. All the furniture beds and appliances were like new and very high-quality. The location is absolutely fantastic..in a quiet peaceful wooded setting. You can't see another neighbors house out the window. There's a lot of wildlife in the area which our family enjoyed seeing. There's a small public end of the road beach about a 10 minute walk down the street which was convenient. There are a couple of really nice larger beaches in the area that you can drive to in just a few minutes. The owners graciously provided parking passes as well as bikes and beach towels and chairs. You can drive to new Buffalo in 10 minutes and St. Joseph's in about 20 to 25 minutes. Jim and Karen were so friendly and gracious and easy to work with. Our family highly recommends this home and we definitely hope to stay here again when we return to the area.

We so appreciate the very kind words from our guest and feel so fortunate to have such lovely people stay in our home. We've worked very hard to make our vacation home as nice as possible and we're hoping that our guests will return again soon!
Everything was great! Anything you would need in the kitchen, including coffee! Plenty of towels, there was even firewood. The beds were very comfortable. I had a question and Karen responded immediately. We have nothing negative to say above it this place
What an amazing place and my review will probably not begin describe all that I loved including the "themed" rooms, posted notes explaining all (lights, firepit, etc), beautiful rooms and cleanliness. The post all provided great suggestions for eatery and attractions. I would enjoy returning in the future.
We had a large group of 10 and the home accommodated all of us. The location is great close to a beach at the end of the road. I like that it was only about 1 1/2 hours from where I live which made it a great trip. The home was well stocked with everything we needed.
This place is perfect for a family vacation. House has everything you need. Location is wonderful, close to Warren Dunes and everything. Hosts very kind and thoughtful.
The house is nicely finished inside and out. Great casual ambiance. It is very well-equipped for cooking, laundry, beach, games- we didn’t feel that anything was missing to make our stay better. Very peaceful and quiet location close to Lake Michigan. Owners communicative and nearby. Definitely recommend it.
Lovely house, close to beaches, wineries, and fruit picking. A great bakery (Swedish) close by!
Beautiful forested area. Kitchen stocked well with cooking utensils. Property managers/owners very nice to meet and work with, both go out of their way to make your stay a great time. You can’t go wrong with this house.
I rented this beautifully appointed home in a little, private, woodsy Eden for my 70th birthday bash, and gathered my adult children and their families (including a 3 yr old and 5 year old) from near and far to celebrate. In every way, the property, the location, the grounds, the wonderful owners, exceeded my expectations (which were sky-high!) and resulted in an absolutely wonderful experience.
From the moment we saw the house and grounds, we were awed. Skylights in so many of the rooms flood the place with light. The kitchen was fully stocked with everything needed for us to prepare family meals easily. The kids were so into the jetted tub for their baths and were thrilled with a cupboard, in their awesome room (away from the master!) filled with toys and games that engaged them for the week. The beach toys and chairs in the garage were much appreciated as well. Even our 3 yr old could walk easily with us down to a perfect private beach and/or the delicious Swedish bakery, and the short ride to climb Tower Hill sand dune at Warren State Park (less than 10 minutes away) and the 20 minute ride to Silver Beach were easy for the children: perfect location! What a find this place is!
When I left my shoes behind under the bed, the hostess immediately called me and suggested mailing them to me. This type of authentic care for renters is evident in every phase of the experience of this rental. I could not be more pleased. Thank you so much!
Our trip was perfect. This home was well appointed for all ages. A full kitchen, toys for children, good reading material, a beautiful setting near the woods, lovely gardens and bonus, about 1/2 mile from the beach. The owners were very responsive and helpful. I would recommend this property.
Property was good and so was the stay. But in the end the property owner called up with an issue with his living room couch and accused us of kids being jumping on it. None of our kids ever jumped or played inside the house. Good we had a property insurance but it was really unacceptable of the way the property manger / owner communicated over phone

About the host
Hosted by Owners Jim and Karen Thomas
Jim and Karen have enjoyed living in Harbor Country for many years. Jim is an Oak Park Illinois transplant since 1993. When living in the Chicago area got to be a little too noisy and crowded, Jim headed off to his own green acres in Michigan bringing his few paintbrush's with him to make a living. Karen however had her start in Michigan City , but has lived in this area since 1970 making New Buffalo her home for many years and finally moving on to Sawyer. Jim and Karen have thoroughly enjoyed hosting some lovely guests and look forward to doing the same in the foreseeable future.
