THE NEIGHBORHOOD
Plaka is the old historical neighborhood of Athens, clustered around the northern and eastern slopes of the Acropolis, and incorporating labyrinthine streets and neoclassical architecture. It is located between Syntagma and Monastiraki square. Adrianou Street (running north and south) is the largest and most central street in Plaka.
There are plenty of shops, restaurants and coffee shops in the neighborhood. Nearby is Ermou street (15 min walk), which is the main shopping street of Athens.
Numerous of major Athens sights can be found In the neighborhood. Just in front of the building is the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Museums include the new Acropolis Museum (4 minute walk from the apartment), the new Jewish Museum of Greece (10 min walk), the Museum of Greek Folk Art (10 min walk), an annex of which is the Old Public Baths building, the Frissiras Museum, the Museum of Popular Music Instruments, the Museum of Pavlos and Alexandra Kanellopoulou and the Athens University Museum (12 min walk). Nearby is Adrianou Street which may be the oldest street in Athens still in continuous use with exactly the same layout since antiquity, that leads to the Roman Agora - Roman Forum (15 min walk) and to Thiseio. Also, Acropolis entrance is a 10 min walk from the apartment. Other remarkable sights nearby are Herodes Atticus Theatre, the Pnyx Hill, and the picturesque neighborhood with the greek island-like houses, Anafiotika.
Aside from sightseeing, note that the apartment is also located very close to the shopping center of the city, Ermou Street, and the neighborhood is full of nice restaurants and bars.
