The Neighborhood:
Adventure awaits on Pleasure Island. Exploring the North Carolina Aquarium at Fort Fisher, home to incredible coastal wildlife, or take the scenic car ferry across the Cape Fear River for a relaxing visit to the charming town of Southport where quaint streets are filled with unique antique shops and galleries. History lovers can walk the scenic, live‑oak‑lined trails of the Fort Fisher State Historic Site, where Civil War bunkers still stand. Nature enthusiasts will love the island’s two state‑managed coastal preserves: Carolina Beach State Park, home to rare Venus flytraps found naturally only in this region, and the Fort Fisher State Recreation Area, known for pristine beaches, marshes, and wildlife viewing. Both offer beautiful opportunities for hiking, paddling, fishing, and spotting pelicans or even nesting loggerhead sea turtles.
After a day outdoors, unwind on your private balcony with a sunset cocktail, or head into town to explore the best of Carolina Beach. The Carolina Beach Boardwalk, ranked one of the Top 10 Boardwalks in the U.S. by Food & Wine, features classic seaside fun—local restaurants, an arcade, ice cream shops, bars, and the famous Britt’s Donuts. In summer, enjoy weekly fireworks and live entertainment, carnival rides, family nights, and Flamingo BINGO. Off‑season brings signature island events like the Cape Fear Kite Festival, Christmas by the Sea, and the Island of Lights Festival. Pleasure Island offers something unforgettable for every traveler—adventure, relaxation, and the perfect coastal escape.
Getting Around:
Getting around Pleasure Island is a breeze! While parking can be limited in peak season, especially in popular spots, paid private or public parking is available. We recommend exploring Carolina Beach and Kure Beach on foot or by bike – they're super walkable and bike-friendly. You'll find safe pedestrian and bike routes, including the Island Greenway. Renting a golf cart or bike is easy, too, with several local rental companies. Golf carts are one of the easiest ways to cruise around the island. Rentals are simple to arrange, and once you're behind the wheel, you can zip along any road posted 35 mph or under.

We loved the house, the location, and the house had everything we needed. The only negative were the bed pillows. Overall this was an excellent place to stay.

Kure Dreamin' is in the perfect location on the island. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. Thanks for the mention of the pillows, housekeeping will be made aware. Please come back again.
We loved our stay here. Appreciated the privacy (it’s not a duplex). There are minor issues like some spent lightbulbs on bedside lamps and a clogged toilet upstairs. We just didn’t use it and dis not want to get maintenance to come in late at night to address it. There were three other toilets anyway. Landlord is very friendly and responsive. Left our karaoke and all I had to do was call and they got it back to us no problem. Thank you for everything

Thank you so much for your kind words! We're really glad to hear you enjoyed your stay and appreciated the privacy and space. We truly value your feedback and thank you for your patience with the inconvenience with the lightbulbs and upstairs toilet — we'll be sure to address those right away to improve the experience for future guests. It was a pleasure hosting you, and we're happy we could get your karaoke machine back to you quickly! You're welcome back anytime. Thanks again!
The location was excellent, the house was ok. We wish there was a more convenient way to bring everything up to the main floor. No vacuum, just a broom that wasn’t sufficient. Needs to have some updates, such as refrigerator umbrella stands by the pool. We definitely enjoyed the the convinces of this house.

Hi Melanie, thank you for your review! We're glad you had a good time at Kure Deamin', and we will pass your comments through the appropriate channels. We hope to see you again soon!
Our family had a marvelous time here. Having the pool was a real bonus-especially for the little ones. There were pool toys (and we added a few) and lots of chairs. We rented umbrellas from a local agency who came each morning and secured them.
The little grill was old and had seen a lot of use. It would be great if they added a gas grill! The bike tires needed air and we did not see a pump. An AC person came to check on the AC when we called. It was a bit hard to cool the house during middle of the day but the rental co was very responsive.

House needs some love
The location is great. On paper this should be an amazing property. Unfortunately, the bunkbed was a complete hazard and had to have the property management company Come fix it. The pool was very dirty and had to have the property management company have a special cleaning done out of cycle.
The pillows don’t seem like they’ve been changed in 20 years. The bedframe in the bunk room was broken, and I had to put books underneath one of the legs to balance the bed. This was never fixed.
The Cabinets are from 1970 and have a rather disgusting stickiness all over them. Plenty of cockroaches and ants throughout the home. I know this is pretty typical at the beach, but you should at least have a company take care of this regularly.
The Wi-Fi is pretty bad and doesn’t work and some of the bedrooms. Makes this difficult to work from the beach.
The showers are really old and rusted out. Definitely mold in some areas.
The entire house needs to be equipped with new furniture, a complete cleansing, new paint, and new showers.
It seems the honor is definitely not looking to put any money into this. The deck itself would move if you were to sway aggressively on it.
The outdoor shower on the ground floor below the deck was absolutely disgusting and smelled like it hasn’t been cleaned in years. Likely a back up from the drain pipe.

Thank you for taking the time to provide such detailed feedback. We are genuinely sorry to hear about your experience and apologize for the inconveniences you faced during your stay. Your experience certainly does not reflect the standard we aim to maintain.
Your comments about the bunk bed, pool cleanliness, outdated furnishings, pest issues, and overall maintenance are very concerning. We take your comments very seriously and will be addressing each of these concerns with our team immediately. We are committed to ensuring that all our guests have a comfortable and enjoyable stay, and your feedback will help us improve our services and property conditions.
Again, we apologize for the experience you had and appreciate your patience and honesty. We hope to have the opportunity to make things right and provide you with a much better experience in the future.
Would definitely return! It was quiet family friendly! House was very clean! Plenty of room for our family of 10! The water was pretty and the beach had lots of room! Not crowded at all!
The property itself was outstanding. The only unfortunate was the Corps of Engineers was doing beach reclamation. Our "beach vacation" had no beach access. The rental company was responsive, we received an extra night free, but that was not really sufficient. We were told they spoke with the project manager, who "built" sand bridges so we could access the beach. However, EVERY TIME anyone walked toward that access, the workers blew an airhorn at us, drove up on 4 wheelers and told us to get off. Very disappointing. We felt we should have been notified and given the opportunity to cancel/change our reservation.

Hi Tina, Thank you for acknowledging that Kure Dreamin' is an outstanding property! As discussed in our personal visit on Saturday morning, your family member had a good understanding of the dredging project since he lives here in town. Neither the property owner nor property management company can control a large civic project like Beach Renourishment, nor predict the daily changes that take place in a project of this scope. We did however, respond with a generous resolution that was exactly what your family member requested.
After Paying extra to be ocean front with 2 small children, we arrived to an ocean front disaster. We could not step one toe in the sand in front of our house or any nearby public access. There was huge heavy loud machinery working 24 hours a day dredging the beach. This would have been understandable if we had been warned so that we could have reconsidered the house or location. No one…. Vrbo, owner, sea coast rentals ever communicated that this was very possibly what we would encounter. I have messaged and spoken to sea coast rentals regarding a compensation for what we paid for ocean front but no response other than they reached out to owner…. No response there! Don’t go to Kure Beach or rental Kure Dreaming!

Hi Jack, we are disappointed to see your one-star review, particularly after we reached a guest resolution with you that you indicated was acceptable on this gorgeous ocean front house. Neither the property owner nor property management company can control a large civic project like Beach Renourishment, not predict the daily changes that take place in a project of this scope. We did however, respond with a generous resolution that your review does nothing to recognize.
Thank you for your 5-star review! We agree that this house has an excellent view of the beach strand and ocean. We are glad that you enjoyed your stay, and we look forward to seeing you again in the future.
We had a wonderful time.. Great beach access and the pool is a great finishing touch!

Thank you for your 5-star review! We agree that the beach access and pool are some excellent qualities for this property. We are so glad you enjoyed your stay, and we look forward to seeing you again soon.
The property was right on the beach with great access and nice pool.
We visited April 2021 and the house had all of the basics needed for a fun beach vacation. The house is dated but upgrades seemed in progress. New thermostat was not programmed correctly and we froze the first night but rental company was very prompt and took care of things quickly. I would say this house only sleeps 10 adults comfortably. There are many roll away cots and bunks available. Owner must have a dog because visible pet hair when lifted couch cushions etc. Not for families with pet allergies.

Thank you for leaving a review! We try to address all issues our guest encounter in a timely manner. We will advise the owner and Housekeeping that you noticed pet hair. We hope you will visit with us again soon!
The place was dated but clean and fantastic location. Was wonderful to have the pool for when the waves on the beach were too much. Was disappointed the swing in the pictures was broken but there was a ton of deck space for watching sunrises and the ocean at night. Overall would recommend staying here if looking for a getaway with family or friends.
