The Lake House has spectacular private water frontage and is furnished for those with discerning taste. It is a newly renovated three bedroom, two bath home on a 1 acre private wooded peninsula on North Pond, a lake that covers over 300 acres. It's a short 6 mile drive into picturesque Bethel Village, with several fine restaurants and pubs and other village amenities. The Lake House is ideally located in the Western Maine Mountains just a short drive to The White Mountains and Grafton Notch State Park in the Mahoosuc Range. We have covered bridges, swimming holes, waterfalls and terrific hiking. Bike, snow machine and cross-country ski from your doorstep. World class skiing at Sunday River is just a 10 minute drive. From our waterfront, there is a full Mt Abram Ski Area view. Your host is a PSIA certified level 3 Ski Pro and staff trainer at Sunday River. (Private coaching is available. Please arrange in advance of your stay). The Lake House sits on a private peninsula with 270 degree water views ensuring ultimate privacy. Your arrival down a long gravel drive, and past our only neighbor will bring you to this pristine setting at water's edge. The house is a contemporary cedar shingled post and beam home, and has been totally renovated. Granite walls, steps and landscaping surround the bluestone patio walkway that leads up to the front entry of the two level home. The yard is very private with a large lawn area towards the lake. There is a sandy swimming area with a shallow entry to the water off the rock ledge and there are wonderful mountain views of Buck's Ledge to the east. Sit at the end of the dock and dangle your feet in the water, or throw in a fishing line. You can use our canoe and kayak (included in your rental) to paddle the perimeter of the lake or go out to the swimming island and dive from the ledges. Relax on the upper covered deck or on the lower level patio area. There is a dining area on both levels, as well as comfortable seating areas and a Weber gas grill on the lower level. You will love the large outdoor stone fireplace for an evening camp fire during the summer. Just bring your s'mores and settle into one of the Adirondack chairs. Listen to the loons call and watch for the bald eagle. If you are lucky, he will land in one of the large pines on the property for a really close look. The upper level of the home features a comfortable living area. The open concept kitchen, dining and living area flows out to the large covered deck through a pair of 8 foot sliders. The entire living area is wrapped with huge windows that provide water views in every direction. One of the two master bedrooms is on the upper level and is en-suite, with an air bubble tub. On the lower level, you will find a second master bedroom that features a private sitting area in a two room suite, with access out to the patio level. A custom tiled bathroom with a beautiful huge shower is located off the hallway between the downstairs master and the third bedroom. The third bedroom is furnished with a queen bed. The house is tastefully decorated with a pleasant mix of contemporary furnishings and lighting, including oak tables, comfortable leather seating and custom made Shaker style cherry/walnut bedroom furniture. Your comfort is assured with new mattresses and nice linens. The original Deck House has been custom finished by the owner/builder with high end finishes and appliances, custom tile work and lots of glass to capture the water views. At the lake side of the house, the elevated covered deck features mahogany decking with cedar railings and a stainless steel cable railing system that allows an unobstructed view. It feels like a tree house, providing a retreat from the hot summer sun or the occasional rainy day. There are two teak steamer lounge chairs, two zero gravity reclining chairs and a Pottery Barn mahogany table with 6 chairs for outdoor dining. There is also a covered patio below (walks out from the downstairs master) with four Adirondack chairs, a teak dining set for 4 and the gas grill. This covered patio area flows out directly to the large grassy lawn beneath huge pine trees that offer a bit of shade with just enough sun for a perfect vacation. The water views are everywhere you look. The Chef's kitchen has granite counter tops and stainless steel appliances. It is fully set-up with a Bosch dishwasher, a professional Electrolux gas range, refrigerator, microwave and a separate beverage refrigerator. A coffee maker, Kitchen-Aid stand mixer, blender and toaster, plus new cookware make the fully stocked kitchen complete. We keep a well stocked spice cabinet. The dining area consists of an island with stools and a large oak dining table with 6 chairs. The comfortable living area on the upper level has a pair of reclining leather couches to allow for plenty of seating around the large flat screen Smart TV.
A contemporary freestanding gas fireplace keeps the house toasty warm in the winter months and offers that Maine Lodge feeling you are looking for. The floors of the upstairs are natural oak hardwood and the cathedral ceiling is beamed, with cedar planking exposed. There is cell phone coverage, WIFI, 2 flat screen TV's, and a Blue Ray - DVD player. No cable tv. Upstairs is a Samsung smart tv. There is a master bedroom on the upper floor with an en-suite bath, cherry vanity with granite countertops and an air bubble tub with shower. The furnishings in the bedroom are contemporary, in a clean lined Shaker style and include a king bed with night stands and a matching dresser with mirror. This master includes a walk in closet. A ceiling fan will keep a cool breeze moving at night. On the lower level, the second master bedroom is furnished with a high platform king bed in cherry with two night stands and two matching tall chests. There is a paddle fan over the bed for a cool summer breeze at night. A large walk in closet also has the front loading washer and dryer. The adjacent study has a matching cherry TV cabinet, love seat and leather recliner and a second flat screen TV. The second bath is off the lower level hallway and has a custom tiled over-sized shower behind glass with a rainfall showerhead coming out of the beamed ceiling, and a handheld shower as well. The vanity in this bathroom is dark hickory with granite countertop. The lower level floors are tiled and the beamed ceilings have exposed cedar decking. Tucked away in the back of the lower level is a third bedroom with a queen bed and just enough space for the foldout ottoman to set up sleeping space for a third person in that bedroom.
For a small additional charge, we also have (for summer use only) a studio/guesthouse experience that can add flexibility to the sleeping arrangements and space requirements of your group. It will be a great escape for kids and adults alike, offering a true modern day Lake House experience. Use the space for reading, writing, or painting. Perhaps the kids will use it as 'their space' or make it your 'Artist's Retreat'. You will find a twin over full bunk bed with a trundle mattress under the double bed. There is an artist bench, and a table with four stools for game playing. There is also a half bath. (Cold water only) There is an additional charge for the use of the guest cottage to help cover costs and cleaning. We do not rent the guest cottage independant from the main house, so your privacy is assured. The beds in the cottage will require the use of sleeping bags, however for a small fee the double bed can be made up for an adult party. Rental of the guest house increases our property maximum to 8. There is a 2 car garage for our personal use. For your protection there is a security camera focused on the driveway and parking area.

Nice and CLEAN. Absolutely excellent spot. Incredible Kitchen. Great outdoor fire place for camp fires, smores, etc...Made a lot of really nice Memories!A bald Eagle visited us in the tall pine trees.
Very comfortable home in a beautiful setting with good access to Bethel and Sunday River. We truly enjoyed the sunrises over the lake and walking out on the ice at night to view the stars. Would definitely visit again!

Thank you
We would welcome you back.
Summer is great also
We loved this secluded lake house, very comfortable and relaxing. Great space inside and out, comfortable beds and linens. Location is close to Bethel which has several great restaurants. Great hiking close by as well. We would recommend and stay again.
I have stayed in many VRBOs for the last several years and own a home that I rent through VRBO. This is the nicest home I’ve ever stayed in. Very clean, beautifully furnished and the most peaceful setting you could imagine!
We had a great time enjoying this lovely lake house! We were in town during an unseasonably cold and rainy week and made good use of the gourmet cookbooks!
Came here to get away for a peaceful birthday celebration and was everything I was looking for! Property is absolutely stunning! Water views wherever you look. Took canoes out on water, enjoyed the fire pit and sat on covered porch sipping wine while it rained. Also had fabulous restaurants just short distance away. Would definitely recommend staying here!
This house is open and comfortable with nice views of the pond, great place to enjoy family time. My son caught nice 5 lb bass right off the dock. Nice pond to canoe and kayak around.
The home was modern and cozy, clean and comfortable with spectacular views and kind, helpful hosts. I would highly recommend this rental! Great proximity to Sunday River. The light off the frozen lake was magical. Upscale kitchen and plenty of space for a family.

We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay at our Lake House. We couldn't agree more, the location is really awesome. You should see it in summer! Nothing beats the call of the loons and the shimmering water. Thank you for your stay and taking time to leave a lovely review. We hope you can return!

We brought our kayaks and enjoyed using them on the lake, as well as hiking in the area. Lovely site and well located for outdoor activities. The house is as described, attractive and well stocked with whatever one might need. Part of our party did not make it because of illness, but we sure would like to come back with them another time. They would love it, as we did!
We had a great time staying at this wonderful property. We weren't able to use the kayaks/canoes as much as we hoped, but getting out on the water was amazing. Hearing the loons was a welcome addition! The house is very well maintained, clean and comfortable and we enjoyed the outdoor fireplace and cornhole on the expansive lawn. Highly recommended!

We are so glad you enjoyed your time at the Lake House
My husband, daughter, and I were all dazzled the minute we walked into the living room and saw the beautiful light and lake views in three directions. We skated on the lake for hours, skied at nearby Mt. Abram, and watched eagles building a nest on the island directly in front of the house. We were in search of some winter weather & fun - and we found it here. We loved our time in the lake house and definitely plan to return.
We liked just about everything about this place. It sits on a great lot (best on the lake, we decided) with water on three sides, and enough of a yard to play croquet. The house itself is well-designed and well-appointed for a small group. With 4 people, each couple had a good-sized room, a comfortable bed, and a private bath. The nice kitchen had better cookware and appliances than most rentals we've been in. The lake is quiet—we heard loons and frogs and the screeches of a bald eagle family, not motorboats. Small bridges let us connect to the series of lakes via kayak (we brought three and there was one on the property). We had a fire in the nice outdoor fireplace. Scott took care of it quickly when we ran out of propane for the grill. The only downsides were: spotty internet—don't know if it was just the house or the provider—and, with no ladder on the dock, one of our group found it hard to get in out of the water for swimming. This isn't wilderness, and there was some road noise We are already talking about renting it again.

So glad you had a good week and are thinking of returning.
The internet has been addressed. It was a problem with the service provider.
This was by far the best rental me and my family have ever used. The house is beautifully done and very comfortable. There are a lot of extras such as a wine/beverage fridge, high end appliances, mattresses, and linens. Comfortable furniture and layout. The hosts were extremely easy to communicate with. The views from just about every window in this home are unbelievable. Having the house on a peninsula gives you incredible panoramic views from the extra large windows in this home. The grounds were terrific. We didn’t see, or hear the one neighbor on the road and it’s extremely well manicured and peaceful having access to a kayak and canoes made the trip Even better. My husband spent most of his time fishing and me and the kids explored the Lake, the little island in the lake and jumping off the swim rock. Having a dock right out your back door was awesome. I spent several hours in the morning in the evening, listening to the calls of the loons out there. If you are looking for a very comfortable, high scale getaway on a lake, where you can just unplug and relax this is absolutely the place to go! We can’t wait to come back next year.
My family had a wonderful time at this amazing lake house. It was immaculate and the layout was perfect for us. There are two bedrooms on the lower level, a sitting room and a door that opens to a patio, which gave us our own space if we needed it. On the upper level, there is a master bedroom and the main living space. The two oversize sliding glass doors and many large windows provided breathtaking views of the lake and mountains.
A covered deck off the main living area was a nice place for our toddler grandson to play without us having to chase him (we used the baby gate provided). We ate at the table on the deck every night and enjoyed a thunderstorm there as well. The yard is spacious with a hammock and a dock. There is also place to swim, you do need to climb over rocks to get to it, but my grandson enjoyed swimming once over them. Laying on the hammock at night provided an incredible view of the many bright stars in the sky. My son and husband enjoyed fishing on their boat conveniently docked in the back yard. Seeing the bald eagle daily was very exciting for us. We also loved the sound of the loons on the pond. Fall and winter would be a great time to visit as well, which we are seriously considering. Scott and Carol were very responsive, kind and made the process easy.
We had a wonderful 3 days here. The house is one of the nicest and well-equipped rental homes my family has ever stayed in. The architecture, the attention to detail, the furniture, everything was simply top-notch. The property is amazing because you are perched out at the tip of a small peninsula so you have 270* views of water, mountains, and trees. The kayaks and canoe are newer and in great shape which is a rarity at lake home rentals (usually you get junk equipment). The dock was in great shape which meant we didn't have to worry about splinters, kids tripping and falling in, etc. We enjoyed paddling out to the rock island to jump off the ledge and paddling around the island where the bald eagles lived. We used the incredible outdoor fireplace for s'mores night. We also made use of the cottage because we had a larger group and that was great. Having a half-bathroom our there made it possible for the in-laws to comfortably stay out there while we stayed in the main house with the early-rising kids and baby. I can strongly recommend Scott's house if it fits within your budget. The only downsides were if the wind was coming from the south it would carry the road noise across the water and it was quite loud, and from time to time there was a less-than-pleasant odor in the foyer and front steps of the house from the pumped sewage system when the tank was close to full before it pumped out (that's my guess as to what it was). Even with those negatives, we would absolutely love to stay here again in the future.

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay. As you say there can be road noise if the wind is from the south. It is most often from the Northwest. The odor you refer to is from the gas hot water heater that vents off to the side of the main entrance. It is possible if the wind is from the right direction and the door is open that it could enter the foyer area briefly.

We started Androscoggin Home Rentals 25 years ago. We own and manage both of our waterfront properties in the Sunday River area. In 2005, we opened our Bed & Breakfast, Bethel Hill B&B. We enjoy people and love to provide a great Maine lodging experience for our clients. We live right here in Bethel, at our B&B, so you can be assured that you can easily reach us and get prompt answers to your questions and immediate help should you need it. Scott is a builder with an eye for quality workmanship, and Carol has a great sense of color and design. Together, we have designed and renovated some nice properties with great location. We keep them in excellent repair and update our linens and furnishings regularly. A clean house is very important to us and we can assure you that you won't be disappointed with our housekeeping! We want you to love your vacation!
Why they chose this property
In one word...Location! The Western Maine Mountains have the best of everything you would want for your vacation! Rural enough to feel like you got away from it all, but close to (almost) everything you need. The winter recreation here is world class. Sunday River Ski Resort with 8 peaks and 137 trails connected with a phenomenal lift system can have you skiing for days without seeing the same terrain twice. Black Mt and Mt Abram are both affordable family style ski areas that can stretch your vacation dollar. Other winter sports, from snow machining to ice fishing, dog sledding to Nordic skiing, winter hiking and snowshoeing can be done from our doorsteps. The summer in Maine is a special time, which is why our properties are located on waterfront. There is nothing like roasting a marshmallow over the campfire, the moonlight shimmering on the water, listening to the peepers and the loons. We are lucky enough to live here and happy to share our special lifestyle with you and your loved ones. Make some memories!
