The house is located on a marvelous spot, with a great view and is close to everything you need for a pleasant holiday. It is spacious and has an authentic atmosphere.
BUT...
First: the deferred maintenance is beyond what you might call ‘charme Provençale’. The blinds have been flimsily repaired and need - like all the outside woodwork - serious painting. The bathtub is dingy and overall the house is ready for an update. At the front terrace there is no light (we had to buy extension cords to put a few lamps there). Tiles in the hallway are cracked and sometimes not very skillfully repaired. The walls are stripped from every decoration that could give the house a cosy and welcoming feel. Insect screens hanging loose in the windows because the tape (!) doesn’t stick anymore. I could go on for a while.
Second: the inventory is hardly suitable to accommodate 8 let alone 9 people. The pans are too small, there is only one cutting board, nowhere outside is space enough to comfortably sit down with the whole party. There is one, ridiculously tiny parasol. There are far too few wallsockets, especially considering that nowadays everybody needs one beside his/her bed to charge the phone.
Third: in the height of summer the house offers way too little protection from the sun and the heat. We improvised a sun screen in the backyard in order not to get toasted.
Fourth: the garden is in a process of desertification. We managed to save a few plants from a sure death. All they needed was a little water and some attention, both of which the owners are apparently not willing to give them.
Overall the house gives the impression that the last 5 or maybe even 10 years no major investments have taken place. And it shows. You get the idea that the owners just wait for the moment the house is too delapidated for rental. Then they sell it on the market and in the meantime they catch a couple of thousands euro’s from people who are stupid enough to book it. Like us.
