About the host
Hosted by Wolf Roy
Hi, I'm Wolf! Born in Bavaria, living for the last few years in Neapoli together with my girlfried Argyro and our dog Markos. One of my interests is arts, so I spend most of my time in my little workshop, creating jewellery and decorating items. I also like painting, swimming, cycling and spending time with our dog in nature. I' ll be happy to welcome you for a coffee or raki in my workshop. And, if you are interested, it will be my pleasure to show you around and bring you close to Neapoli's unique beauty, that I admire and love.
Why they chose this property
Neapoli, historical capital of Lassithi Perfecture, is a small town with a significant architectural interest. It was established near the ancient town Driros, which was first inhabited at the 12th century b.c. During turkish occupation, the local governor Adosidis Pasha, who envisioned the transformation of the small village into a town, at the european standards, erected impressive public buidings around a big central square and a public garden, a beautiful spot we are also visiting today for a little walk, or a quick rest. The spacious square (greek: 'πλατεία') is the word you will hear mostly from locals, as it is the main gathering spot. Along with the public buildings, there are many interesting private residences dating from the first half of 20th century (when Neapoli reached its peak time), and belong to old local families.
Very close to Neapoli, there are many traditional villages, surrounded by nature, with stone-built old houses, streets full of flowers, and smiling people, happy to welcome and say ‘hello’ to every visitor. Almost in every village, at least in the bigger ones, there is a ‘Kaffenion’ (traditional bar), where you can try greek coffee, or a ‘karafaki’ of raki, the local drink, that makes you see the best of everything! Neapoli is the ideal choice to the travellers seeking to explore the real Crete, as they are given the opportunity to visit places unspoiled from the massive tourism. Whithin 30 min drive, you can reach wild, untouched beaches where you can enjoy the sea sometimes in total privacy, old villages which have not been changed through the years, authentic people, and a glorious landscape.

What makes this property unique
Here are some first tips for you:
Neapoli is located very close to the national road, east from Heraklion airport, after about 40 minutes drive. You can also take the local bus, just outside the airport. After your arrival, you will realise everything is so easy! All you need is so close to you. For example, you can find all of the coffee bars and tavernas in the town square. It s only a few steps from the house, as well as the bus and taxi stations, ATM's, groceries, pharmacies and the town hospital.
To visit the capital town of Agios Nikolaos, it only takes 10 minutes by car or taxi, or you can take the local bus (I can provide you with the bus timetable at your arrival).
You can also look for local festivals, or athletic events and artistic seminars that take place from time to time in Neapoli, Agios Nikolaos, and in near villages, mostly in summertime.
And, of course, if you like a little adventure, there are also some activities in the area, I will be happy to inform you about e.g. diving, mountain cycling, horse riding or hiking.
