Located on the roadside with private parking for 1 car to the rear, and plenty of space to keep motorbikes and bicycles. It is perfect for couples and families looking for a base to tour the county, and is ideal for cyclists and walkers alike.

Amble is known to be ’the friendliest port’, with so much to see and do right from the doorstep. You will find it just a short stroll to a wide variety of shops, pubs and restaurants. The harbour is home to a busy Sunday market popular with locals and visitors, and here you can also see the quirky pod-style shopping outlets. The harbour area has two great fish and chip shops, and a couple of more upmarket restaurants specialising in fish. Boat trips around Coquet Island can also be taken here.

Here you will find a host of independent shops and galleries, a chocolaterie and coffee shops, pubs and restaurants. The market town of Alnwick, with its cobbled streets and famous castle is a 15-minute drive away. The beautiful Alnwick Gardens, are well worth a visit with the worlds largest treehouse restaurant, beautiful displays and cascading waterfall. Explore further north on the Heritage Coast and you will come to the seaside village of Seahouses with it’s beautiful beach and selection of pubs, shops and fish restaurants. You can take a boat trip from here to the Farne islands and Holy Island. Just a short distance from here is the picture postcard village of Bamburgh with little tea shops and restaurants, a magnificent castle and amazing beach walks. Amble is the start of an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, which stretches along the coastline to Berwick-upon-Tweed with miles of golden beaches and castles. Make sure you visit Holy Island, the owner has a comprehensive record of tide tables to access the causeway. With so much to see both coast and country, Drifter makes a great base from which to set out to explore all Northumberland has to offer. Beach ¾ mile. Shop, pub and restaurant 500 yards.

Perfect stay
Drifters is a gorgeous, spotlessly clean, wonderfully furnished property, ideal for exploring Amble and the Northumbrian coast. Douglas, the owner, is attentive and friendly without being in any way obtrusive. The apartment itself is beautiful, calm and has all the amenities one could need. The little welcome basket was also a lovely touch (as were the dishwasher tablets!). Honestly one the best properties we have ever stayed in. We’re even looking at returning next year.
